To think this house sitter was bloody cheeky?

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 18/06/2016 23:38

My DM recently got a house sitter for 10 days whilst we all went on holiday. She had used her once before and all seemed fine. She seemed very professional - took detailed information about all the animals, signed contracts, she is fully insured etc.

She was supposed to sleep at my DM's house each night, although my DM was aware that she would need to pop back here and there to exercise her own dogs (she lives with her parents).

She was paid over £600, and for that she had to look after 2 dogs and feed a cat. There are also 2 horses at my mum's, my mum's horse who is a big cob, and my daughter's pony. She wasn't expected to do anything with the horses.

While we were away the house sitter emailed to ask if it would be ok if her partner's kids came to meet the horses. My DM said that was fine. When we got back, my mum had a good chat with her and the house sitter said that the kids had come over and groomed my mum's horse, but not my daughter's pony because she was grumpy (she is grumpy).

I was the first to go into the tack room, and noticed that the bridles weren't in the right place. I didn't really think anything of it. But today my DM said that there is grease on the bottom of her saddle, from where the saddle pad hasn't been put on properly and it has rubbed the horse, which she wouldn't do. Also her bridle had been done up all wrong. The stirrups on both saddles were at different lengths to how they'd been left by Us. She suspected that the house sitter had taken the kids riding on our horses. This was confirmed when she went for a ride around the village today and a neighbour (who has booked the same house sitter) said that the house sitter had emailed a picture with the kid sat on her horse!

Not only is riding someone's horses without their permission incredibly rude, it is also a really stupid thing to do. She knew nothing about our horses, they could have had any kind of quirks, and putting 2 kids on them (when she doesn't appear to know much about horses herself) was just bloody dangerous.

Not only that, but my DM said there's no way that the bed was slept in for 10 nights, so she suspects that the house sitter had left the dogs overnight which she wasn't supposed to do.

WWYD? I absolutely think that something should be said to the house sitter, but my DM is veering towards leaving it, and just locking the tack room if she uses her again! She was paid a lot of money, and in my opinion, took the piss.

Checking alarm logs is a good idea.

TBF although their response isnt satisfactory I guess they cant take your word over hers - I CBA to scroll back, was there anything specific in writing about what care was being supplied - surely if there was nothing written down about her riding the horses therefore there shouldn't be any conflicting information about them.

Although, on their website it says that if you aren't happy with their comp!ain't response you can get back to them to get it independently assessed - may be worth a go if they are fobbing you off?

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 20/07/2016 15:23

No alarms sadly.

Not sure what my mum is planning on doing next, she forwarded me the email but she's not answering her phone so I haven't been able to find out her thoughts.

Unfortunately yes it's mostly our word against hers so she is likely to get away with most of it.

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 20/07/2016 17:36

in the end it is her word against yours - no one will ever know if she did/didnt stay every night /permission to rise horses etc

she know has a mark against her name and will be on record if this ever happens again or any complaint against her

its very sad your mums cat died, but you said she will ill and could have died

you have named and shamed and written on her fb page ( think) and reviews cant be erased

i think you should let the matter drop now

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 20/07/2016 18:56

She has removed all reviews that I've written - I really wanted to make sure she wasn't able to do this to anyone else's animals but looks like she's got away with it and will carry on. It certainly hasn't been for the want of trying on mine/my mum's part.

That's a bit crap OP, at least she got a warning. Did you hear back from the boyfriends CO?

kali110 · 21/07/2016 15:31

If you went to the press woukd that be harassment?

bumbleymummy · 21/07/2016 15:48

How annoying! Surely the fact that there was so much pee on the floor shows that she wasn't there for the duration. Angry

Willow2016 · 22/07/2016 10:44

Thats a bit of a cop out. If she had been there 24/7 then there wouldnt have been so much pee on the floor at all and the cat wouldnt have had a huge absess go untreated.
Can your mum have a letter from the vet to confim the state of the poor cat and send it to them?
And as for the horses... anyone with an ounce of sense would know you just dont saddle up someone elses horse and ride it without express permission. Your mum explained that the horses had special conditions on them re health and who could ride them, they cannot seriously be arguing that she had permission!

They are not taking any responsibility for their members actions nor their reputation as a business providing house sitters! I would get back to them and if no satisfaction leave a damming review of thier services if you can.

Hardly appropriate given the thread is two years old and involved the death of an animal.

Have reported your post

PrawnOfCreation · 08/03/2019 21:21

Hey @GoZacGo

This thread is years old. And how crap is your business model where you spam old threads to drum up clients? Does no one recommend you to friends? Or use you again? No?

londonrach · 08/03/2019 21:28

Reported too. Terrible form of advertising! Zombie post everyone!! 👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻

FormaUrbis · 09/03/2019 06:04

@scaryteacher, @PrawnOfCreation,

To be fair to @gozacgo there is no true mention of any harm coming to the cat until comment 400+, which even if you had the comment setting to 100, wouldn't see until page 4.

As a newer member myself, it's difficult to see exactly how old a post is, but maybe it's just my ancient eyes!

More importantly I think, is how you are talking to what you have to realize is another human being. Maybe they are new (like me), but I would hope that this isn't how you talk to people on this site or anywhere else for that matter.

It doesn't create a very welcoming environment and is frankly disappointing to see.

londonrach · 09/03/2019 06:15

@formaurbis. Welcome. This is an very interesting site that educates but can also be a bear pit. Gozac post was an advert with a link to a website.

I'm no a greeter at Asda. Lurk more.

PrawnOfCreation · 09/03/2019 07:52

Since you're new you're no doubt keen read all the site rules. My favourite one is no socking fwiw.

scaryteacher · 09/03/2019 08:40

@Formaurbis The year is given on the right hand side of the posts. Very clearly says 2016 even to my 53 year old eyes.

As I was on that thread from the start I remember it well, hence the comment.

This is AIBU, which isn't known for being warm and fuzzy. As Prawn says, lurk more and get a feel for how it works before you start giving lectures to people about how they post. MN is known as a nest of vipers for a reason.

Gozac was touting for business, which is not allowed under the site rules, hence being reported.

Blossomtoes · 28/05/2021 13:09

Stop it! Just fucking stop with the zombie threads. This is about the fifth one this morning.

amusedbush · 28/05/2021 13:18

Every thread I've clicked on today has been a zombie! Angry

Grin

I haven't seen the carpet thread for at least six months, definitely time for its resurrection!

Crinkle77 · 28/05/2021 13:45

I've noticed there are loads of zombie threads being resurrected. I think someone is having a laugh.

LittleOwl153 · 28/05/2021 13:49

It's the neighbour knocking through the wall whilst the OP was on holiday I'd like to see resurface.
