I always take care making sure I get people gifts they like in the family, especially when it is a special birthday. Yesterday was DH 40th, from his two sisters he got £30 gift card and a box with jelly moulds, jelly and some sultanas! One of the sister said to him they couldn't think of what to get him and they thought it would be funny! Am abit annoyed as we get her lovely gifts. For example at Christmas we got her a necklace and she have him sweets and jelly! He likes jelly but not that much!! It not about the money, am not bother what they spend. AIBU to think it is abit weird and thoughtless? First world problem I know but feel really sorry for DH!

What does he think? I got my ex BIL three large jars of marmite once (the special edition ones), he loves marmite, my sister hated it and wouldn't let him buy it (😏) and she would never get it on the shopping. He said it was the best present ever that year!!

He wasn't too happy! But was polite and when he spoke to them on the phone said thank you. They weren't there and had sent it in the post. I don't think he would mind if it was a special edition, that sounds cool. No just regular jelly and a multi pack of sultans! He said he can't work out why they think he likes them so much?

Sounds to me that you both lack a sense of humour, perhaps she dosen`t want to get into the habit of expensive gifts I would look for something humourous for her birthday such as a trowel and packet of seeds or a cupcake book and cases something of tht sort.

We thought it was funny the first time! This is now the the third time. For a normal birthday fine I agree but got a 40th? This is the same sister who when I brought her a top for her birthday she said it back as she didn't like it.....

For their next birthdays, they get an inflatable guitar and some of those enormous novelty sunglasses. If they are Hmm about it, he can just say 'I thought we were only doing amusing gifts now?'

Agree with you, Jolly with be buying her a humourous gift going forward, we must of read the situation wrong.
