Going away Aibu?

So I am meant to be going away for a few days to a spa resort with some girlfriends, but that means leaving my 4 kids with my DH, I trust him to look after them, but he works. So my eldest DD said she could look after the younger ones, but she is revising for her GCSEs. Aibu for leaving her to look after them, because I feel so guilty about it.

When is this trip then op?

Chippednailvarnishing · 16/06/2016 21:23

Why don't you pay for a babysitter ?

Unicornsandfairies44 · 16/06/2016 21:26

The trip is Tuesday to Staturday next week. I don't trust baby sitters, I have asked around, but most of my friends are going on the trip!

Bloody hell. Go get your massage and mani-pedi. Fuck the kid's exam. Hmm

I'm playing a tune on the world's smallest violin just for you Op.

DropZoneOne · 16/06/2016 21:31

Why can't your oh start late / finish early for a couple of days? Is there no wraparound care at school for the younger ones so he can still work?

Unicornsandfairies44 · 16/06/2016 21:33

I'm not looking for sympathy or for anyone to feel sorry for me if I can't go to this spa trip, I just wanted advice on what to do.

OP posts:
PaulAnkaTheDog · 16/06/2016 21:36

Good. No one is giving you any sympathy. The advice is don't put your daughter's academic future in even the slightest jeopardy so you can get your nails painted.

Unicornsandfairies44 · 16/06/2016 21:36

I never thought about getting young kids into breakfast/after school club, have just looked now on the website they have said that if there is a free space on that day, I could pay to get them in. I will ring tomorrow morning to find out. Thanks for the help.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 16/06/2016 21:40

How much spa-ing (I made that up Grin) can you do in five days?!

Unicornsandfairies44 · 16/06/2016 21:41

The Tuesday and Saturday will be mainly travelling, no spa experience on those days, so we will be at the spa from Wednesday to Friday

OP posts:
PaulAnkaTheDog · 16/06/2016 21:43

Three full days of spa-ing. Most people I know arrive on a Friday evening and check out Sunday morning/lunchtime! No wonder you don't want to cancel. That must have cost a bloody fortune. Unfortunately for you, money doesn't come before your child's future.

Unicornsandfairies44 · 16/06/2016 21:48

We were going to go to a spa a bit closer to home but my friend got a special offer, she got an extra day for half price for a spa further ways, so we decided to go to that one as overall it was cheaper. You are right, money can't even be compared to my DD's future. I never realised I was putting it at such a risk though.

Yawn.

Let me guess you also forgot that she was sitting exams.

This really reminds(ish) me of a 'documentary' about Alicia Douvall who took her elder daughter out of school just before GCSEs to go to America and look after her younger child while she got more plastic surgery as the docs over here wouldn't let her have any more.

Tallulah I saw that. It made me incredibly sad. Her daughter was very academically minded but it was like Duvall just could not comprehend it. Sad

TallulahTheTiger · 16/06/2016 22:12

I know paul made me sad too- AD made me angry with her incredulous belief that daughter wanted to be academic.

CocktailQueen · 16/06/2016 22:12

Tuesday to Saturday on a spa trip????

Didn't you think when you booked it that your dd would have exams???

And does your dh work every hour god sends, or could he do eves and Mornings and school runs??

Honestly?

I'd either cancel or get your dh to man up and look after the DC when you are away. But Tuesday to Saturday is a v long time for a spa trip.....
