I have no time for the royals but I liked her outfit. Have no idea who Nicholas Windsor is though. I always think Royal children look like ghosts of children from the past.

Nicholas Windsor is the son of the Duke of Kent, his claim to fame is that he was one of Charles and Diana's pageboys.

Glad to hear sailor suit boy was his son and not the ghost of the Tsarevich Alexei!

The Queen always wears bright colours. I was working during the Commonwealth Games when she came to collect her accreditation and she was wearing canary yellow.

As others have said - it's so she can be seen in the crowd. Green was exactly the right choice for Trooping the Colour as nothing stands out more against red and black. It was bright, and may not have been her personal choice but it was smart and beautifully made and the pink flower in the hat was a great touch.

Thought Camilla and Kate looked lovely too, and Sophie, She seems to always get it right. Beatrice was awful - my 7 year old thought she had orange peel on her head and that's exactly what it looked like.

I thought it was a bit too green but she always looks great. She and D of E are amazing.

The Wessexes children are the ones I always feel sorry for- always look badly dressed and odd.

I thought that Charles had dressed her but she'd taken the target off her back Grin

Hacker, no you're not! I watched it thinking William should get hold of him and my DM said she'd have had him in reins that near to the edge and standing on a ledge or something.

I don't know, I kind of like that Beatrice and Eugenie make bold fashion choices. They don't always get it right but when they do they look great, like Eugenie's red dress at the service last week. At least they're never dull, which is more than can be said for Kate!

Yes Eugenie's red dress was lovely, and she looked great.

Bold fashion choices is one thing, but Beatrice gets it wrong so often - I still remember that loo seat hat she turned up to the wedding in. Maybe their mum is advising them on outfits...

The hat was unfortunate and detracted from what was actually a perfectly lovely coat and dress.

And behold, two new paint colours have now been added to the dulux colour chart:

Queen Green and
Dogturd Orange.

I love Beatrice's hats.

That hat was unfortunate
A naice way of saying something looked shit ? Grin

Fair play to her, she always wears something interesting and can never be accused of playing it safe.

Camilla looked nice, but her hat was a bit motb.

Cerseirys · 12/06/2016 10:20

Well 5 years later we still talk about the hat, so she must've done something right!

Kate's an odd one, she followed up that stunning blue Roland Mouret gown last week with a coat that looked like Wedgewood china. It would've been lovely on her mum or Camilla but why does she dress like she's about 20 years older than what she really is?

I'm pretty sure she has that outfit in every colour imaginable, I also like to think of her being incredibly stubborn with her personal advisor,

"Your majesty, are you sure green is the way to go? It's awfully bright"

"I'm wearing the green"

"Maybe a nice pale pistachio?..."

"Green."

"......."

"..... Green!"

I did think she was a bit of a star for wearing something so lurid just so people could see her. I'd never have the guts to wear it.

Mind you it is her job and she gets paid pretty well for doing it.

I think Prince Philip should have worn a matching outfit, like two peas in a pod Grin

I loved Beatrice's loo seat/kraken hat.

If you're gonna style yourself on the concept of someone having a nervous breakdown in the Star Wars costume cupboard, then you may as well go to town and do it properly.

Ffitz · 12/06/2016 10:39

She's in costume isn't she, just like the soldiers. It's a performance and she's wearing what works for that. It's not her personal taste. She wears kilts and woollies in muted colours when off duty.

But have all you noticed that no matter what colour dress and hat she wears, the Queen wears the same sensible black shoes all the time? And why not, at 90 everyone must want to be comfortable!

Report
LunaLoveg00d · 12/06/2016 11:10

And that basically, all of her outfits are the same. Just in different colours. Always with black shoes and handbags. I get the impression she's not really that fussed about fashion - she's found a style which works for her Queenly duties, and has one run up in every colour imaginable.

Wonder what she had on UNDER the coat??

Agree, OP - I know the queen has to wear bright colours but that green hurt the eyes! No-one should look like Shrek on their birthday!

She was wearing a floral number under the coat, white with small pink flowers, dress or skirt.

Report
Cerseirys · 12/06/2016 11:42

It was certainly the brightest outfit I've ever seen on her but I really do think it was purely so that she could be seen. There were massive crowds outside the palace, if she'd worn one of her usual pastel blue or pink suits they wouldn't have spotted her easily.

Professor, she did smile when the Red Arrows flew over; On tv, I saw a face brightening with joy at that moment.
