Same old engand that's judged by the nation rather than skill!!! Every bleeding year without fail,

Vardy is arguably the striker in the world right now and yet he's on the freeking bench! LET THE YOUNG ONES PLAY!

I absolutely believe that if Vardy was on the pitch that result would've been 2-1 England.

To paraphrase Messers Baddiel, Skinner and Broudie "same old England..."

RealityCheque · 11/06/2016 22:19

Agree to a point. HOWEVER, Rooney was excellent tonight. Vardey should have replaced Kane, who along with Striking was poor.

Balletgirlmum · 11/06/2016 22:19

Not for that formation though.

He had little impact in the last friendly.

I was at the turkey friendly at Manchester & you could see his skill & he scored but the partnership with Kane didn't work. The first half was appalling.

Tonight for the first time in along while they looked like a proper team.

Balletgirlmum · 11/06/2016 22:20

Delli Ali has been impressing me though.

Lweji · 11/06/2016 22:21

YABU, just not sure about what. Wink

SellFridges · 11/06/2016 22:23

There is very little point in playing Vardy at all, if you're not going to supply him. And for that, you'd need to have picked Drinkwater.

Milner was an odd sub, sent the wrong message.

That said, we were better than I've seen us play since the Germany 5-1 game and we've got to REALLY try not to get out of this group.

MsJamieFraser · 11/06/2016 22:25

Formation was 4-5-1 and for me itnshoydk sieve been 4-4-2 and Vadry, Wiltshire instead of Rooney and Stirling, Rooney played ok but he isn't a centre mid-fielder, he's a centre forward! Rooney is a forward player!!

OP posts:
MsJamieFraser · 11/06/2016 22:26

Delli Alli and Kane allow them to play!

OP posts:
MsJamieFraser · 11/06/2016 22:28

Drinkwater is not there through, the nation again picked reputation against performed!

ilovesooty · 11/06/2016 22:33

Vardy isn't that young. I don't think the result would have been any different if he'd played. I think the performance was good enough overall to take some positives.

ilovesooty · 11/06/2016 22:34

Oh and I honestly think Rooney has no future as a centre forward now.

SellFridges · 11/06/2016 22:35

Drinkwater is not there though

That's my point.

thelostboy · 11/06/2016 22:36

Agree Drinkwater should have gone out there. Also think Vardy should have gone on when it was clear Kane wasn't firing on all cylinders.

Milner looked out of place and off the pace when he came on. Much as I'm not a big fan, Jack Wheelchair didn't look too bad and seemed to manage to play for 10 minutes without getting injured for once!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 11/06/2016 22:37

Do you really think Vardy would have made a difference?

SellFridges · 11/06/2016 22:38

Wayne Rooney only has a place in that team as a midfielder. And today he was excellent. Only person I'd say I didn't see much of was Cahill, and that's probably as it should be!

Walker was great, almost playing as a winger because of the way Russia let him play. And Sterling seemed to have an extra inch every time.

I just don't see the rationale for bringing Milner on at that stage.

MsJamieFraser · 11/06/2016 22:38

He's 29 and in the top form of his life, Rooney is 30, Messi 29, Ronald 31 etc... He is in my opinion the top sticker in the world, at least in the top 5 anyway.

OP posts:
StillStayingClassySanDiego · 11/06/2016 22:40

Rooney's being played in midfield to spread play and pass the ball, good move to save his legs, he can pass a ball through the eye of a needle .

SellFridges · 11/06/2016 22:41

He's is probably quite a valuable sticker.

Leicester have played a very specific formation and it's not one this England squad can support. I think Vardy will play a part in this tournament but to expect him to perform as he has for Leicester is daft. He just won't get the supply.

I'd have taken 1-1 against Russia. All is not lost.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 11/06/2016 22:41

Grin, bollocks! He's had one good season on the premier league.

He's not world class.

shiveringhiccup · 11/06/2016 22:41

Hodgson should have reacted when the game started slowing down midway through the second half. Not really the issue whether he played Vardy or Kane - but if one wasn't working he should have put on the other - but he didn't.

Also it was 4-1-4-1. Loved the formation.

MsJamieFraser · 11/06/2016 22:42

YES! He Vardy would have made a difference, he would have helped Kane considerably as he was up thereby himself, putting another centre forward up there would have help and his presence alone would have scared the Russians.

OP posts:
SellFridges · 11/06/2016 22:46

The only option for getting Vardy on there today was by taking Kane off. That wouldn't have helped Kane.

Biggest issue for me is having Kane take the corners.

MsJamieFraser · 11/06/2016 22:48

Rooney is a hell of a player, however he can only pass left or right, or one up front? What happens after that with Rooney playing in that position.

Disagree with Vardy on one premiership, surely that's enough to get him into the starting line up for what he done this season?

OP posts:
MsJamieFraser · 11/06/2016 22:50

On another note, all the violence is going to overshadow the tournament for England anyway! Angry
