to want oven dimensions in mm, not litres

We're planning to do up our kitchen and I'm trying to research cooker options. But everywhere seems to quote oven capacity in litres. I don't want to know how much water it will hold, I want to know if my pans will fit!

Help me out, tell me how what size your cooker ovens are?

YANBU. car boots are measured in the same way. It would only be relevant if you wanted to put a big bag of water in there. And why would you? We should start a petition...

It is annoying. Do you reckon the inside looks to be in the shape of a cube though? You can work it back to mm/cm

I'd like it in both...

1000L = 1 cubic metre (so 1L would be 100mmx100mmx100mm and perhaps you can extrapolate that way). But tbh, it's probably easier to think of it in terms of milk bottles. Are you buying online? When I bought my last microwave I found plates the same size as mine and tried them in the floor model (it was a tight fit too!).

I like it in litres.

It's good when comparing different ovens. One is 65 litres, another is 70 litres. I know that the bigger one is the equivalent of 2 big cola bottles and one small cola bottle bigger. I can visualise that. If it said x mm, I couldn't visualise how much difference it would make.

But 70L could be 10cmx10cmx700cm which woud not be very useful. Knowing width is vital for tray size

I reckon any oven will fit a standard size oven tray in.

I got funny looks walking into Currys and John Lewis with my "fits a giant leg of lamb" roasting tray. I don't care. I had an oven once in a rented flat where I couldn't cook anything bigger than a medium chicken.

My range oven now fits my giant roasting pan in both sides - the one I'd been lusting after only fitted it in one side, which is no good for when I want to do a giant dinner for lots of people.

Yes! Why? I was trying to work out what pushchairs will fit in our miniscule boot recently only to find that the dimensions are all in litres. What use is that? I'm not going to buy a 30 litre pushchair.

I eventually found boot dimensions in mm on the motability website including the all important width of opening. Saved me going out with the tape measure.

emwithme I once walked into Curry's with a cardboard piece of toast to test in the toasters because I was fed up of ending up with one raw edge. Bread is a standard size, how hard can it be??

I did the same emwithme after the mistake of buying a new cooker, and having to cut the legs off a goose on Christmas morning, as it wouldn't fit in. I took my biggest goose cooking pan the next time. They differ so much, :)

This is just it, we have been looking at range cookers, so there are all sorts of layouts of 2nd oven. I need to know I can fit my favourite multi purpose dishes in the second oven but the litre capacity could be the same for a tall and (too? ) narrow oven as for a short wide one. Or I could wind up with neither oven big enough to take a large roast. Either way would be a waste of a lot of money.

Yeah, it's a pain in the arse...and is the reason I went to the two place with the biggest range of ranges (ooh, actually, I lie, I went to three - there's a local independent I went too as well) and tried everything that was on my list. In the end I bought a reconditioned range from a local second-hand cooker shop which did everything I wanted but was £500 instead of £2000.

We have a double built under oven that has the controls running down the side...so makes the oven a little smaller width ways.

The info does seem to be there but not always obvious.

I will admit this is one of the times when living on the edge of the sticks is less than helpful, it's a good hour's drive to the nearest place with shops large enough to have multiple models to compare. Plus 100cm cookers seem to be the least frequently stocked.

DM has suggested I stop moaning about it and email the manufacturer to ask. She's probably right (she usually is)

The only trouble with the dimensions size , is that it is usually the outside dimensions. The (smaller) oven I bought was supposedly the same size but had lots of extra lining inside for better insulation.
