Love Island - Red flags

dowhatnow · 11/06/2016 00:01

Has anyone noticed that Nathan has displayed a few red flags for controlling behaviour in his coupling up?

  1. He called her names that she was frigid in the first day or so and hit her hand away quite aggressively when she called him on it.
  2. He told her she looked better without makeup.
  3. Tonight he was really upset because she showed him up by making what was an obvious joke and he managed to persuade her her behaviour was out of order when it really wasn't. She ended up apologising profusely but he wouldn't let it go.

I wouldn't ever have noticed these without recent threads on red flags and controlling/abusive behaviour. Maybe I am being unfair and unreasonable?

No, you're not and I've used shows like this, including Holkyoaks and Geordie shore, as a discussion point about abusive relationships.

I thought that this generation of Women would be more clued up, but they aren't, judging by the comments across SM.

RJnomore1 · 11/06/2016 00:06

Birds what is SM?

Birdsgottafly · 11/06/2016 00:08

Social Media, the comments after any of these types of shows, from young Women, are very depressing.

liz70 · 11/06/2016 00:09

SM = social media, I'd guess.

RJnomore1 · 11/06/2016 00:14

Ah thank you

Thecatmademedoit · 11/06/2016 01:05

I agree with you OP. The way he was with those frigid comments was just downright nasty. He's a prize twat in my opinion !

dowhatnow · 11/06/2016 08:12

I agree he was nasty but I wouldn't immediately have thought "wow that was really quite controlling". I'd have just thought he wasn't nice. Now I'm watching for his next controlling move.

Re point 3 he also said she sounded like a slag.

I feel exactly the same. Mn has def opened my eyes to this stuff.

There has been so much misogyny displayed on the show so far...

AGruffaloCrumble · 11/06/2016 08:23

Tom and Sophie too. Told her she looked like a slag for having a drink.

Rebecca2014 · 11/06/2016 08:34

I feel Tom one to watch...he definitely has a dark side and you can tell he has a temper but is keeping it bottled in due to being on TV. He looks quite possessive over Sophie, cannot see them lasting on the outside.

dowhatnow · 11/06/2016 22:05

He has got a dark side but he also seems a softy. The jury is out on him at the moment as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure if he is controlling or is just horrible sometimes. Either way not good boyfriend material. In fact as mil says, none of them are.
