Aibu to moan at icecream man?

Virtually every night since the weather got better an ice cream van has pulled up on my road- right outside my house. Not moaning about that as poor guy has to make a living but it's at 8.30/ 8.45 with music and rattled engine for 15 mins- sometimes he gets a customer and Is there longer 20 min tonight. Not only does the noise annoy me but its right by ds window at bedtime/ past bedtime. Aibu to ask him to move 50 yards or so down the road or alternate where he parks on our bit of road?

My friend is an ice cream man.

I think he has to finish at 8.

Will ask him next time I see him.

They are only licenced for certain hours.

You can check with your council.

They might be able to ask him to do your road earlier. Especially if there are a few little kids.

Orchidflower1 · 10/06/2016 21:10

Thanks - I don't want to stop him earning but he doesn't get customers every night but its disturbing every evening.

There are rules. No music after 7pm. 15 seconds max I believe. It's proper legislation. Google is your friend.

OneMoreCupOfTea · 10/06/2016 21:54

Seems a bit late for ice cream, maybe he's selling something else?😄

I was just about to post on this thread and realised that thread on the link was one I started!

Anyway, my current bug with ice cream vans (I know it seems like I have it in for them) is that there is one parked outside school every single day. I know it annoys a few people (but business sense on the ice cream retailers part)

I'm always saying no and then 2 mins later have to say no again as that's when he pulls up into our street. Grr (not his fault I know)

We always joke that when the ice cream pulls up at the park it's like the pied piper

NedStarksHead · 10/06/2016 22:15

Our ice cream van definitely breaks the rules! Unless it's different in Scotland?
Creepy music blaring at 9.30pm Angry

AgentZigzag · 10/06/2016 22:27

Because it doesn't sound as though you'd go steaming in and understand he's only trying to make a living, I think you should.

There's no way he'd want to upset anyone and you'd only be asking him to shift a few yards down the road, you could buy a couple of ice creams as a softener?

cozietoesie · 10/06/2016 22:34

I believe that some nighttime ice-cream vans will even sell you ice-cream! Smile

AgentZigzag · 10/06/2016 22:39

We're the same minesa! Parks outside the school and by the time we've walked home he's just pulling up on our road.

I started to think there was something going on because he always set his jingle going just as he passed us on our road Grin he's stopped that now thankfully but it used to give me a fucking heart attack until I got wise to it!

SoleBizzz · 10/06/2016 22:42

Our ice cream vans never have ice cream to sell!

glueandstick · 10/06/2016 22:49

It isn't it allowed to park outside a school. One mo...

AgentZigzag · 10/06/2016 22:53

The one here just parks a few doors down from the school, probably 51 metres away Grin

starry0ne · 10/06/2016 23:02

Reading your document it says during school hours..So technically they can be there after school time.. We have one that parks by ours...No idea if within 50 meters but after school files out they move up to the after school park.

I refuse to buy them and constantly point out how many more we can buy from supermarket... It is something we buy from a van on a day off.

evileyes · 10/06/2016 23:05

9pm here too the other night, drives me mad.

Cheeseinthetrap · 10/06/2016 23:06

Our local ice cream van is definitely breaking the rules then, there's always one parked outside DD's secondary, right across the gates at home time and then one on our street around 8:30 with music playing.

Iknownuffink · 10/06/2016 23:07

Our icecream man blows a whistle after 8pm.

Bloody annoying as I always miss him when I neeeeeeed something sweet.

Changesofmind · 10/06/2016 23:07

Ours turns up whenever he feels like it, usually at around 20:30...

Even when it's snowing. Hmm

SoleBizzz · 10/06/2016 23:11

Oh I wish we had an ice cream van come here in the snow.

clarrrp · 10/06/2016 23:18

glueandstick I was just about to post that same link.

WutheringFrights · 10/06/2016 23:24

An ice cream van drove into my works car park last week and sat for five minutes playing it's tinkly tune waiting for customers.
Not a problem in most places but I work in a farm shop that sells ice cream!

minesapintofwine · 11/06/2016 23:43

Reading that link it is an offer to sound chimes after 7pm.

Your ice cream man is breaking the law open I REALLY want an ice cream now

minesapintofwine · 11/06/2016 23:43

Ffs. Typos

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 12/06/2016 12:45

Wuthering.
Is he allowed in?
Friend used to visit a local park, until they opened a cafe that sells ices.
The cafe is only open Sunday afternoon and Thurs afternoon.
But he has been banned with his van.
