When showering

Read an article in daily mail recently saying , when showering, you should only use soap or gel on bits and pits to avoid drying out your skin. Just water is apparently all that's needed to keep the rest of you clean. As someone who has washed every inch of my body with anti bac soap for the last 30 years since giving up baths, I found this hard to believe. When I asked my daughter, sister and husband what they thought, I was surprised that they all only soap bits and pits. How could I not know this? AIBU to ask what your showering habits are?

All over with a shower poof thingy. Sometimes if my 3yo is in with me she likes me to sit down with her so she can wash my back for me Grin which is almost like going to a fancy spa and being pampered or not

Bits and pits here. DS has sensitive skin and he has water only even on his hair. If he gets something in it I use a tiny bit of lavender shampoo. His hair is always lovely and never gets nappy rash and his eczema had cleared up. Doesn't smell either! We definitely use to many products.

All over. I love soap. Your skin sweats through all pores, not just bits and pits. they all need refreshing. In a hurry sometimes I think I can get away with just the basics but the rest of my body feels ignored if I try so I end up scrubbing everywhere. Love that freshly showered, freshly scrubbed feeling.

I'm also bits pits and boobs every morning along with my hair. Shampoo slooshes over me though and my feet paddle in it!

Our skin is supposed to be covered with lots of healthy bacteria.

I just make do with a Gentleman's Wash in the sink.

I don't even soap my bits every day! Just water really. There is such a thing as too clean down there, you can wash away all your body's natural cleaning methods.

I scrub my pits and arms and chest but not my legs because I can't be arsed

Suffered terribly with acne till mid twenties so got in the habit of using anti bac soap then. Use Dettol soap bar. Have read that anti bac soap kills good as well as bad bacteria but have never had any adverse effects in 30 years. I do rinse well though. Doesn't make my skin dry either. I guess when you find something that suits your skin you stick with it.

Bath at night mainly for relaxation purposes. Wash face, bits and pits and rinse off in clean water from the shower with hair tied back

Mornings shower and soap all over; wash hair twice and condition if needs..if not then I tie hair back and just wash front section

I am clean as a whistle. I use Fem Fresh too. Have done forever..still haven't contracted BV or whatever nasties you're supposed to HmmBlush

I shower gel my armpits and feet and shampoo/condition hair, everything else is water only.
My skin is very dry and would peel off if I soaped it.
I never use detergent anywhere near my vagina/urethra; that is a recipe for disaster. I don't think I smell. The water wash is thorough, not just a quick splash!

Mb I use Dettol soap a lot..or Pears, love the feeling of it on my face, and I scrub my face with one of those abrasive puffs

Face must be made of leather Blush never had an adverse reaction and I loooove how clean it feels

Also use a good moisturiser after

I wash bits and pits, feet and upper body with soap. I don't soap over my legs because the foamy water runs down over them anyway.

Always use a bar of soap too, not shower gel. Shower gel is so harsh on my skin, it dries it so badly. When I switched to soap my skin no longer felt like it was two sizes too small for my body.

It surely doesn't count as a shower if there's no shower gel? That's just getting wet. You wouldn't stand out in the rain and consider that a cleansing... would you?!

Dove shower gel, all over, once a day whether I need it or not...!

Why on earth wouldn't water wash sweat off normal skin? It's not sticky or greasy.

The people who soap all over do you need to moisturise afterward? I've only ever soaped up the sweaty bits and creases and I figure the rest gets clean with water and whatever soap is washing over it from hairwashing, face and pits. Its not like my arms or thighs are dirty Hmm unless ive been to the beach or something. Shower and wash hair every morning. Once a week I have a bath and do a big scrub session. Ive never had dry skin or the need to moisturise. If I soaped all over my skin would be dry and sandpapery.

Don't use anti-bac anything - it is all a marketing ploy and harmful: you're creating a master race of super bacteria!

When I say 'bits' I only mean the hairy bits, water for the inner bits, but never up.

Wow! You dirty lot! Grin
I wash with shower gel and exfoliating gloves all over. The only bit that doesn't isn't my fouf and that gets rinsed thoroughly with water.
The shower gel can make you dry but the answer is to use body lotion every day, not to stop washing! Wink

Pits only. I give my bits a good scrub with my hand and water. Soap/ shower gel/ feminine wash causes massive bouts of thrush - so I can't do the rest of my body as the run down gives it me too!

No need for anti bac. It may not affect you personally but it enters the environment and continues its work there, helping create resistant bacterial strains.
