AIBU to like GAP stuff?

I do.
I just do.
Always have done, and I suspect at this stage (I am 50), I always will.
I know about sweatshops and child labour and that does bother me, but I do like their stuff.

Bother.

I've got this in my basket for my holibobs which we booked today and I WANT it

They're nothing like BHSConfused

FarAwayHills · 04/06/2016 21:48

I love GAP, probably because there's always a sale or discount on the go....50% off and then another 20% off sale items. Yes please Grin

It's far better than Next for basics like jeans, t-shirt and hoodies IMO. Next is just overpriced and dull, even their famed sales are no where near as good as GAP.

memyselfandaye · 04/06/2016 21:52

Theres a gap outlet 5 miles way from me, they often do 50% off the entire shop, including the sale stuff, then send me 10 or 20% off emails.

EssentialHummus · 04/06/2016 21:55

I live in their v-neck and scoop neck tops, along with jeans, the occasional dress and some work wear.

It's a bit bland and "samey" on (on me, anyway), but hard to break the habit.
I get a discount code from them daily, it seems.

coco1810 · 04/06/2016 21:56

I ❤ the word holibobs. . I also like Gaps tops for ladies, jeans are a no no for me I have little legsSad. However, love the kids clothes.

PacificDogwod · 04/06/2016 22:33

They are so not like BHS - they've got a US Mothership to prop them up for starters, don't they?

I am sad at BHS's passing although the only thing I ever bought from them were little bridesmaids' dresses some 17 years ago and bed side lamps a little later...

I remember how it seemed like everyone had a Gap hoodie as a kid. I didn't get one for a while- when I did it was grey with Gap across it in pink. I also remember getting pyjamas or something from there.
They seem to be a real clothing staple- for kids anyway, not sure about adults.

Excited101 · 05/06/2016 00:01

I LIVE in their skinny jeans- they're the best fit I've ever had.

Thanks to this thread I've also bought two pairs of shorts and some wedges...

enterYourPassword · 05/06/2016 03:56

It's no where near the quality it used to be. There was a premium to pay but the clothes lasted for ever.

Nowadays, not so much. Still nice pyjamas though.

Runningupthathill82 · 05/06/2016 06:47

A couple of bits from there are ok (I'm thinking the skinny work trousers) but generally everything is bland, of poor quality, and devalued die to the constant 50% off vouchers.

The sizing is mad, too. I wonder how skinny people would shop there, as I'm very far from skinny and I have to buy a size 8 (or American size 4).

As for the shops, the ones round here are all on crappy out if town trading estates, along with the likes of Currys and Toys r Us. The only non-Outlet store closed down a couple of years ago. Would not he surprised if they went bust soon.

What used to be a desirable and upmarket brand is now just somewhere that sells cheap basic t shirts at constantly reduced prices. Like that Officers Club place that used to be in every shopping centre and was always 70% off.

HoldTheDoorHodor · 05/06/2016 07:04

We have a GAP outlet near us and it's amazing. It's permanently a sale Grin which is good because I live in their hoodies and jeans!

MiniCooperLover · 05/06/2016 07:21

I'd stick up if I was you ... Our 2 closest stores are closing. I don't see Gap lasting v long

lovecamping · 05/06/2016 07:27

I love GAP too, especially their day/casual dresses - good basics for summer.

I actually have the dress you linked too! But only paid £15 for it (in store & last one left), definitely goto shop rather than online.

JackandDiane · 05/06/2016 07:28

Love gap trousers. Our local store shut. Too overstocked etc

Glitteryfrog · 05/06/2016 07:59

Love the idea of gap.
Reality is rubbish - dresses always too short random 40% off, just knock 30% off everything permanently.
Their trousers are good though.

Oysterbabe · 05/06/2016 08:36

Pretty much all our baby clothes are from there, I love it.

roundtable · 05/06/2016 10:33

I like the children's and every so often there's something nice in the adults. I begrudge buying it in the UK though as their price tags are the same as the US with a pound sign in front so depending on the exchange rate you're paying a fair amount more than there.
