With Top Gear?
Watching it now and it's shit. Really shit

OP posts:
OTheHugeManatee · 29/05/2016 21:00

Chris Evans is so I Irritating. All that circus ringmaster presenting stuff just feels shouty and try-hard. MLB is okay but the whole thing feels a bit like drinking alcohol-free beer - Looks sort of right, tastes sort of right but something just missing.

smilingeyes11 · 29/05/2016 21:01

I think Matt is okay but Chris is not great at all.

Cremo · 29/05/2016 21:01

It's as if they are mimicking themselves 'doing Top Gear' . Very scripted. And you could drive a bloody Bugati Veyron through the script . Completely broken format.

OTheHugeManatee · 29/05/2016 21:03

MLB is quite hot though. Its only redeeming feature.

Cremo · 29/05/2016 21:03

I liked Sabine though. I'd like much more of her.

DebCee · 29/05/2016 21:09

I don't think it's shit. Beautifully filmed. Made me laugh a few times. I think it's too early too judge.

PestilentialCat · 29/05/2016 21:16

DH is about to look for it on iPlayer - no idea why he's bothering as he loves Jeremy hates Chris Evans & dislikes Matt Le Blanc because he was in Friends which he never watched is American & overweight Hmm

He's going to love it, isn't he?

CantChoose · 29/05/2016 21:18

I actually quite liked it. Which is odd as I wasn't over fussed on the old one anyway and generally dislike Chris Evans. I must be ill.

spiderlight · 29/05/2016 21:20

Well, my nine-year-old loved it. He's been saying for months that he was going to watch the first one out of curiosity but was then going to boycott the rest of the series out of loyalty to the old lineup, but within five minutes he decided that he was going to renege on this promise. I thought there was no chemistry at all between Evans and LeBlanc though. LeBlanc seemed to be trying to be Richard Hammond and failing, and it was all a bit flogging-a-dead-horse, really.

barbecue · 29/05/2016 21:20

I've never liked it, mainly because of the presenters.

myshinynewusername · 29/05/2016 21:21

Top Gear was shit when Clarkson, Hammond and May started in it. It took at least a year to develop the chemistry and tinker with the format and so on to find what worked.

This new incarnation has been on for one hour. It wasn't that brilliant, but not as bad as the 'old' Top Gear when it began, so its just too early to write it off.

That was always going to be the problem though. They were never going to get the grace period that Clarkson, Hammond and May got and many people were determined that they would hate it before it even started anyway.

AgingJuvenileBinkyHuckaback · 29/05/2016 21:21

Needs more Sabine.

OTheHugeManatee · 29/05/2016 21:22

Yy, more Sabine would help.

DailyMailAreAFuckingJoke · 29/05/2016 21:23

It was OK. Evans was surprisingly nervous - a bit too children's presenter-y for my taste but hopefully that will settle down. MLB was quite good; dry and deadpan. The chemistry isn't there yet, but it comes through practice and familiarity. Part of what made the 'old' TG so successful was the very matey banter and in-jokes - they take time to build up. If you watch early episodes of when C, M & H were first together it was quite stilted.

There's room for both shows - I am looking forward to watching The Grand Tour, but I'm also hoping that new TG will find its feet.

Var123 · 29/05/2016 21:24

Matt Le Blanc might turn out to be ok, but Chris Evans just won't.

They can't even get the short interview with the celebrities right - CE has turned it into an immature pub game type thing, which is more or less what he always did with TFI Friday.

Wibblewobble100 · 29/05/2016 21:26

I enjoyed it... Better than the original I think but I can't stand Jeremy Clarkson. I agree more Sabine would be better. And no need for Chris' local takeaway restaurant staff.... Save that for TFI.

lifesalongsong · 29/05/2016 21:27

I really didn't like the old version mainly because of Jeremy, I thought it was OK for a first episode, my children enjoyed it and will watch again next week.

They were going to be criticised whaetver they did, OK is not bad going

ApocalypseSlough · 29/05/2016 21:37

It was awful- maybe the chemistry will develop, but this episode was just painful.
I loved the specials overseas in the old series, it will be interesting if they do them and if they're as good.

DinosaursRoar · 29/05/2016 21:50

Just watching it now as paused earlier. Matt Le Blanc is actually really good, Chris Evans, just not right. I think perhaps it might settle down, nerves maybe?

InternalMonologue · 29/05/2016 22:00

Extra Gear is worth watching. So much better than Top Gear. Better presenters, and more of Sabine. It's a shame it's only on BBC3.

RainbowsAndUnicorns5 · 29/05/2016 22:01

You don't like Matt LeBlanc because he's overweight ? Hmm odd

Matt is hot unlike Joey Wink

Someone onTwitter wrote 'why couldn't you just have given him a steak ffs' Grin

PestilentialCat · 29/05/2016 22:58

watched it on iPlayer with DH.

Evans was pretty bad, Le Blanc was funny - I liked him, but DH didn't, Sabine was great

DH thought it was all too "try hard" but I expect he'll be watching it every week..

thebear1 · 29/05/2016 23:03

I had stopped watching Top Gear, watched this and thought it was okay. Hope it develops to be a success for the BBC.

TheSkiingGardener · 29/05/2016 23:14

I really enjoyed it. Evans was obviously very nervous but loved the prefilmed bits and the studio part had some good stuff and I think will settle down.

Salmotrutta · 29/05/2016 23:21

I watched it and rather liked it.

Yes, Evans was a bit "excited schoolboy" but he wasn't that bad and Le Blanc was surprisingly good.

Sabine rocks.
