Aibu to put my 3yo DS to bed in his own bed after storytime?

My DW thinks it's alright for our DS to be kept in family bed until hes asleep with myself normally staying in the bed with DS until hes asleep. Then I transfer him to his own bed.
I think at 3yo we should have story time in his own bed then be left to settle on own, he is a capable and happy child. AIBU?

Of course YANBU - surely he will have better, undisturbed sleep if he goes to bed in the room that he sleeps in. Are there any issues with him settling down? I would have thought allowing him to fall asleep in your room is likely to exacerbate the problem if there is one, or create one further down the track when he really does need to go to his own bed.

What about a story in his own bed?

Or if he cant settle just sit by him until he does and then gradually leave every night? It will take time but he will get there..

I think either is fine. I guess if you are the parent doing bedtime then you should have a large say in what happens.

Try the same routine but in his bed for a few nights
Then sit on the floor while he falls asleep and gradually move out of the room so he learns to settle himself. Trying it in one go could be distressing for him as it sounds like he has never settled himself?
There is nothing wrong with a treat in parents bed having story then settling in own bed, we do this on occasion and DC's love it!
Explain to your DP you are still going to make bed time quality time and that this is not a way out of doing it etc if that is what is worrying them?

I would do stories in his own bed. It must be quite disorientating to fall asleep in one place and then wake up in a different one

Is there a reason he isn't settling in his own bed?
