To be really pissed off that I have discovered a security tag on my new top?

Just that really. Getting my clothes sorted this morning and discovered on of those hi tech security tags, that obviously doesn't work, or it would have set the alarms off! Also shop was about 45 min drive away, so not easily sorted.

I drove 15 miles home to find my Dunelm purchase had a security tag on it. I emailed, explained the issue, got a voucher/card thingy to make up for the petrol.

Sainsbury's have been equally pleasant in similar circumstances.

Give their Customer Service a whirl, you never know!

2nds · 24/05/2016 17:13

Send them a picture of it with the tag on it in an email along with a picture of your receipt and explain what happened and that you'd like to speak to someone about it.

PacificDogwod · 24/05/2016 17:14

I thought any shop with security tags can remove them?
If you have your receipt take it somewhere more local to you, I think they should be able to help. Do NOT try to force it open

notagiraffe · 24/05/2016 17:15

We discovered a security tag on a present we'd bought in Iceland (country not shop). Couldn't return it but did manage to undo the tag with a screwdriver somehow.

crumblybiscuits · 24/05/2016 17:17

Depending on what kind of tag it is you can literally remove it with a magnet.

Have a look at this link. Hope it is useful

OurBlanche · 24/05/2016 17:19

Yes, bitter experience here too. Never again!

But yes, take it and your receipt somewhere closer and ask nicely!

honeysucklejasmine · 24/05/2016 17:19

I had to remove one with a hammer once. I figure if shoplifters can do it, so can I.

Obvs don't use a hammer if it's an ink one

PacificDogwod · 24/05/2016 17:19

Yes, they are magnetic, but I am not sure that a normal household magnet will do the trick.

millionsofpeaches · 24/05/2016 17:21

Do you have a hack saw? I sawed one off my top last week. Just cut through the metal bit of the pin.

MadSprocker · 24/05/2016 17:21

The shop is an independent department store, so might be tricky to find similar. I will just use it as an excuse to go shopping again Grin

I have posted a link regarding 7 ways to remove a tag .
Here it is again

OurBlanche · 24/05/2016 17:23

None of those 7 ways works with the spring loaded bastards that take your thumb off as they fly passed!!!

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 24/05/2016 17:25

Next took a tag off a Tesco top for me. It set the alarm off in Next and they searched my bag. I showed them my receipt and they happily took it off.

YouMakeMyDreams · 24/05/2016 17:39

I've had them taken them to my local super drug to have them taken off. They don't use the same ones but have managed to remove them.

BananaInPyjama · 25/05/2016 02:13

I found a tag on a top I bought whilst the other side of the planet. Only tried to wear it once I was back home. I think the shop deactivated the tag but forgot to remove it.

DH tried to remove the tag using Youtube...ended up cutting a hole in the top but its OK. I need to start mixing with shoplifters for some handy hints on removal!

EBearhug · 25/05/2016 02:40

I need to start mixing with shoplifters

...I know, I 'll ask in Mumsnet.
Grin

Lweji · 25/05/2016 02:44

Considering a recent supermarket thread, yes...

puglife15 · 25/05/2016 02:49

I had this in a well known baby shop which rhymes with Smotherflare and was given a £5 voucher to make up for the faff of driving back. It wasn't 15 miles away though, more like 1.5

Bogeyface · 25/05/2016 03:01

Unless it has dye in it, a hammer, a pair of pliers and brute force should do it. I have had a couple of these and generally manage it with just the pliers.

Smotherflare doesnt exist anymore so I think you can safely name them pug :o

Bogeyface · 25/05/2016 03:02

I am not a shoplifter btw, just unlucky I think!

BikeRunSki · 25/05/2016 03:10

Smotherflare doles still exist! It did in Lewds

MrsSpecter · 25/05/2016 03:11

Whaat?? Smotherflare doesnt exist anymore? When did that happen? Confused where have I been hibernating? Grin

Bogeyface · 25/05/2016 03:12

Does it?! I thought it had finally been closed down.

My flapologies to Smotherflare, I stand florrected.

Bogeyface · 25/05/2016 03:12

AIBU to snigger at "flapologies"? :o

Is that what one does after a fanny fart?!
