I am BU. Holiday parks and 'chavs'!

My dsis has informed me that I would be mad to book a Haven holiday in the UK since it will be full of rough people and chavs.

I have never been so I have no idea of the type of clientele.

I'm honest enough to admit that the thought of being surrounded by Jezza Kyle types is a little daunting.

There'll be dh and I along with our 3 dc and I just don't want to fork out a lot of money and feel uncomfortable and unable to use the facilities.

I hate judging people based on how they look/sound etc but she's been before and has really worried me!

Lydstep Beach in Tenby is a Haven park and it is absolutely lovely. One of my favourite places ever honest. Private beach, stunning views and really not chavvy at all.

bertsdinner · 23/05/2016 20:24

Ive been on a couple of these holidays, they're ok. I think some parks are noisier than others and it depends who you get there.
A lot of it isnt my cup of tea, the pub/club for example. I would say there are a lot of what could be termed working class people there and some are a bit rough around the edges.
They were not anti social, fighting, screaming louts though so I would probably go again.
Main down side for me was the shop was ludicrously expensive.

Go camping on a Camping and Caravan club site, cheap and cheerful.

Youarenotkiddingme · 23/05/2016 20:27

Ive been on a number of haven holidays - just ds and I, sharing with friends and also away woth groups of friends.

None of us are rough. Well, one of our friends probably would fit the criteria your sister describes but she behaved herself Grin she's absolutely adorable just is more of the loud opinion type and doesn't taper her tongue from swearing very often!

BonitaFangita · 23/05/2016 20:28

I really enjoyed Devon Cliffs but thats a few years a go now and Greenacres in Porthmadog is great, the beach there is stunning

williaminajetfighter · 23/05/2016 20:28

Whatever you do avoid the Haven holiday site outside Newcastle. Run, don't walk.....

MerdTheFuck · 23/05/2016 20:29

Now that's more like it Grin KOKO

ghostspirit · 23/05/2016 20:30

gosh im going on holiday not haven though... butlins simlar i guess... but there will be 13 of us. wondering how we will be judged what people will think of us etc

Waltermittythesequel · 23/05/2016 20:30

I don't know where I'm thing of going, tbh!

One of the quieter ones, definitely.

Usual if you think it's snobby not to want to be robbed within four hours of your arrival, then that's fine. I'd prefer it didn't happen, personally.

My Dsis goes on Haven holidays every year, and she's very middle class.....

CMOTDibbler · 23/05/2016 20:31

We went camping at Haven in Weymouth, and it was brilliant. Not chavvy, even had its own Starbucks. Bloke a few tents up did start on his girlfriend at one point, but security were there within 2 mins, threw him out and moved her and her kids to an area of the site they could keep and eye out.
We didn't do evening entertainment, but used the pool and stuff and had a lovely time

DanyellasDonkey · 23/05/2016 20:31

Went some years ago due to pressure from DCs. Sorry to sound like a snob but the clientele were like the cast of the Jeremy Kyle show. We were kept awake till the early hours by drunks staggering noisily back to their caravans.

My DD(10 at the time) came back early from the swimming pool as she couldn't stand all the swearing from the other kids.

This was the one at Ayr - my first and last visit to Haven. Truly awful experience.

annandale · 23/05/2016 20:31

I'm very much at the snobby old cow end of the market. I hate Centre Parcs with a deadly loathing, partly because they market themselves as nature loving/luxury holidays when the only luxury thing about them is the price and the only glimpse of nature will be the stars you see when you hit your head on that weird shelf they have next to the sofas.

I haven't stayed at this place near West Bay but visited it to go bowling with ds and thought it seemed really, really nice, so would give this sort of thing a go. In general I would have at try for a static caravan at small independent sites. freshwater beach

onlyslightlyinterested · 23/05/2016 20:31

Meant to add, she goes to a site in Tenby.

BonitaFangita · 23/05/2016 20:35

Why don't you look at hiring a private let on a holiday park? They can workout very reasonable and are usually in a quieter part of the holiday park so you can do more of your own thing if you prefer to.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/05/2016 20:35

I could never go to Centre Parks, I've only recently got over the fact they're not all enclosed in little eco bubbles. Fucking false advertising.

Amberdiamond · 23/05/2016 20:36

We went on a few Haven holidays when DSs were small. I wasn't keen on the larger sites but the smaller quieter ones were lovely. The caravans were clean and well kept. Wild Duck in Great Yarmouth was nice, as was a site near St David's in Wales.

CalleighDoodle · 23/05/2016 20:37

Im not keen on blackpool haven. I love greenacres and hafen y mor in north wales. Greenacres is near Porthmadog so you can visit the village where they filmed the prisoner, port meirion, so you can get some culture if you dont want to be thought of as chavvy Hmm. Im going to one in cumbria soon which is supposed to be lovely.

Always get the best accomodation you can as it makes a HUGE difference. We stayed in a lodge last park holiday. It was a parkdean in dumfries. Again the children absolutely love it and there's entertainment on for them throughout the day and into the evening.

We also go to butlins every year. Im a bit bored of the skyland gang, and thomas the tank engine REALLY needs to up his game, but the children love it.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/05/2016 20:38

Well, we've owned a static caravan on a Haven site for 12 years - so not sure what that says about us! Hmm

Seriously though, we meet the odd annoying holidaymaker but don't you get that anywhere in the world? Certainly nothing to rival the behaviour of some of the 'guests' at our all inclusive hotel in Turkey last year.

Waltermittythesequel · 23/05/2016 20:39

That's a good idea Bonita I'll so that.
