My dsis has informed me that I would be mad to book a Haven holiday in the UK since it will be full of rough people and chavs.

I have never been so I have no idea of the type of clientele.

I'm honest enough to admit that the thought of being surrounded by Jezza Kyle types is a little daunting.

There'll be dh and I along with our 3 dc and I just don't want to fork out a lot of money and feel uncomfortable and unable to use the facilities.

I hate judging people based on how they look/sound etc but she's been before and has really worried me!

We encountered brits abroad in Majorca jesus wept they were loud pissed all day left their kids to burn to a crisp while yelling at connor and kyle devil twins to stop fucking running round the fucking pool come ere give me Haven anyday they were a huge party of about 10 kids 7 adults i was so glad to leave 3 days after they arrived

Babyroobs · 24/05/2016 17:43

Janey - We have been to Club Mac Alcudia and I get what you're saying. We arrived there to fnd yobs throwing drinks off the balconies onto people below. I wouldn't go there again.

The north of Mallorca (around Puerto Pollensa) is lovely. We have had a lot of cycling holidays there and family holidays when the kids were younger.

MrsJayy · 24/05/2016 17:50

I loved our hotel and the area is beautiful then the clampets arrived

Youarenotkiddingme · 24/05/2016 17:51

I went to club Mac alcudia middle of August last year - it was nothing like you describe. There was a huge group there celebrating a families special birthday (20 odd of them) they weren't even loud TBH. Not even the night they were given the piece of grass near the lake and had the birthday party.

I'm going to Santa ponsa this year - I'm hoping it's the same.

2rebecca · 24/05/2016 17:51

We did self catering apartments or normal B&B only hotels in Mallorca or villas. I avoid all inclusive hotels as alcohol fuelled Europeans (mainly Brits) are awful. If people have to pay for it they're more restrained.

fiorentina · 24/05/2016 17:54

From several friends who have braved them over the years I've been consistently told they were rough and not nice. However the kids had fun.

VinoTime · 24/05/2016 18:03

I've taken DD to Butlins and Haven before. You will see people from every walk of life, but that rings true of any place.

queenMab99 · 24/05/2016 18:58

My son has been with his family using Sun vouchers, he says the most uncomfortable part of the holiday is having to go into the newsagent to buy the Sun! The children love it , it was full of families like them, and to be honest you can get rough, loud, people anywhere , however much you pay.

imwithspud · 24/05/2016 19:05

Ah see we don't buy the sun, people share the codes online - they're easy to findWink

Tywinlannister · 24/05/2016 19:15

This has actually validated my holiday choices. We couldn't go abroad this year due to new baby so we have rebooked Haven in Dorset which we went to last year and really loved (pleased to see that it has had some good comments on this thread!) We don't go and see the entertainment so I cant comment on that but I know that generally I don't like that kind of thing. We leave after the kids disco and the caravan is just a base for days out.

Someone I know from the school regularly goes to a different Haven and she is a bit of a party animal, shall we say!

jellybeans · 24/05/2016 19:24

I agree with the person that said some parks are quieter than others. The only one that we went to that was 'lively' with groups of teens etc and frequent blue light runs to park was Berwick. But we still had a fab time and it is a great site/beach/area.

All of these were lovely..Quay West, Kiln Park, Greenacres, Reighton Sands, Lakeland..

rednsparkley · 24/05/2016 19:44

jacrispy Tue 24-May-16 13:53:39Has anybody been to quay west? I'm thinking about booking to go but I'm scared after reading some of these posts. Can't afford abroad.

jacrispy we went to Quay West last year and it was so nice we booked again for this year -

  • Lovely park,
  • Gorgeous beach,
  • Park rangers who do all sorts of outdoorsy organised activities
  • Quaint village within walking distance which has the yummiest ice-cream shop and lovely chippies
  • Dolphins swimming and jumping in the bay
  • Heated outdoor pool

We LOVED it Grin

CerseiHeartsJaime4ever · 24/05/2016 19:56

I have been to Butlins many times as a kid. I went once as an adult expecting the same holiday and suddenly saw it through adults eyes. As such I would never return. I was sick in the main bar because the smoking ban meant I could suddenly smell years of stale beer and poor cleaning standards. I went for a run during the week around the site and people were looking at me like I was a lunatic. The room we stayed in was appalling. I'm sure the hotel is better but it doesn't take away from what Butlins is... a holiday for people who need entertainment, all day, every day, with very little to do outside the camp.

Whatafrickennightmare · 24/05/2016 19:57

Haven is fab. Obviously with any holiday their will be a range of different people. We Can't stand the evening entertainment but we would usually head into the little sea side towns and go for walks and ice cream after tea. We have been to centre parks and haven both many time and value for money I would pick haven every time. We stayed at Primrose valley last time was fab so much to do around it we used it as a Base no problems at all. I would recommend Auchenlarie caravan site also which is on the west coast of Scotland we have stayed in a caravan with hottub very cheaply priced, beautiful beach and so much to do in area for kids xx

Toosecat13 · 24/05/2016 20:16

I have just had to register so I could post on this, I own a caravan on the Haven site Hafan Y Mor in Wales. I am certainly not a chav or rough for that matter.

I paid £60k for my van (no finance), I holiday either at my caravan, other Haven sites as they are fab for children or Mexico.

I let my caravan out during the 6 weeks summer holidays at £1400 per week, I have never had a chav or any kind of scumbag stay at my holiday home. Just decent hardworking people who have gone to Haven for family fun.

I have witnessed more bad behaviour in Mexico than I have in the UK.

I will now go back to lurking in the shadows.

Helmetbymidnight · 24/05/2016 20:17

Dunno about the havens, but new quay in Wales is lovely, and if you've got the car, you can easily find more secluded national trust beaches that are gorgeous.

Mov1ngOn · 24/05/2016 20:19

Oh we're staying in one next week. Not ever done it before please say it will be lovely. La La La La.

RunnerOnTheRun · 24/05/2016 20:22

NEVER AGAIN. Checked in and checked out 20 mins later.

It was vile. My DH joked out loud in the linen queue (yes, you queue for your bed linen) he yelled "oh damn, I forgot to pack my shell suit!" The shame.

We didn't even want a refund, drove 3 hours home and had a take away.

imwithspud · 24/05/2016 20:25

We've never had to queue for our bed linen, it's usually in the caravan waiting or beds are already made Confused

jacrispy · 24/05/2016 20:28

Ooh I'm going to go there then! Kids should love it. I love Wales I cannot wait

Babyroobs · 24/05/2016 20:30

Runner - We almost turned around and went straight home when I went to make up the kids beds and found excrement on one of the mattresses. It had just been turned over ( not sure whether this was by the previous occupants hoping to hide it or the cleaning people !!). This was at Primrose valley in Yorkshire . I wanted to just go home but we couldn't really disappoint the kids. We never went back.

Flowersonthewall · 24/05/2016 20:31

We are off to the one in Lakeland in a couple of weeks! I'm sure it'll be grand! Anyone else been?

Waltermittythesequel · 24/05/2016 20:32

Toose £1400 for a week in a caravan?? Shock

You could go away properly for that!
