I am BU. Holiday parks and 'chavs'!

My dsis has informed me that I would be mad to book a Haven holiday in the UK since it will be full of rough people and chavs.

I have never been so I have no idea of the type of clientele.

I'm honest enough to admit that the thought of being surrounded by Jezza Kyle types is a little daunting.

There'll be dh and I along with our 3 dc and I just don't want to fork out a lot of money and feel uncomfortable and unable to use the facilities.

I hate judging people based on how they look/sound etc but she's been before and has really worried me!

Yes I do care but I have to admit that I only escaped because of biology and luck and so it would be wrong to abandon my family who have not had the same good luck,

I have paid for private treatment for my family and we try to reduce stress when we take them away as that is a trigger.

SpottyDogsAndSpiders · 24/05/2016 13:50

Worst places we went to for chavs were a hotel in Majorca and another hotel in Salou, Spain. Both quite expensive holidays, booked through a reputable tour operator.

Both hotels were full of people who left their 2 or 3 year old kids to their own devices all day and night, and just sat on their arses drinking all day. The Majorca one had a huge (20+) family from a North East city staying there that were constantly rowdy and dominating all activities and evening entertainment. One evening they all turned up for dinner in the full football kit of one of their city's teams...

Has anybody been to quay west? I'm thinking about booking to go but I'm scared after reading some of these posts. Can't afford abroad.

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/05/2016 13:56

jac is that New Quay West Wales?

Someone upthread said it was a lovely site.

jacrispy · 24/05/2016 14:12

Yes west wales. I love caravan holidays and dcs would love it.

skivvywoman · 24/05/2016 14:15

Philoslothy are we related Wink

imwithspud · 24/05/2016 14:17

We nearly went to Quay West but decided on Greenacres in North Wales instead. It's practically in Snowdonia and there are some beautiful views, beach on site too. Would recommend if you're looking for a Welsh holiday.

Waltermittythesequel · 24/05/2016 14:17

Phil you sound lovely. I hope you all have a nice holiday. I just couldn't do it. I'm not trying to be nasty but I just couldn't. I'd be miserable, uneasy.

You would Walter if they were your family.

Waltermittythesequel · 24/05/2016 15:10

Usual I think you need a glass of cop on by the pool.

You're the only one not getting this. Or you're being deliberately inflammatory.

I think there are double standards with regards to alcohol. I have spent time on cruises and in top hotels, as much alcohol being drunk around children. MN has lots of jokes about when is it wine o clock? Lots of middle class parents polish off a bottle of wine a few times a week in the evening, often more.

SirChenjin · 24/05/2016 15:26

So drinking strong cocktails by the pool in some fancy resort is ok.
Drinking a can of lager by the pool in skeggy not ok

As per usual

Spangletangle · 24/05/2016 15:32

The police were called to a fight in the bar when we went.

However, dd had such a good time she keeps asking to go back. And I won the dancing competition so I was happy.

pottymummy · 24/05/2016 15:43

Honestly, we're 'middle class' and we've been on a few haven type holidays (and butlins) and we've been to centre parcs too. We've been to holiday parks abroad and in the UK. We've stayed in apartments and we've stayed in mobile homes.
I've never noticed a particular difference in the 'clientele'. There are mixes of folk wherever you go. If you are particularly unlucky you get stuck next to an unusually noisy/sweary/abusive family but I've NEVER experienced that.

We go on holiday to keep the kids entertained - they need a) play areas b) water and c) other kids . They also need a TV. Holiday parks are set up for precisely that.
Read the reviews. You should be worrying about the quality of the PARK not the PEOPLE :)

FarrowandBallAche · 24/05/2016 15:45

Horses for courses.

No right or wrong. It's what suits the individual person.

Mumofone1972 · 24/05/2016 16:21

We did a haven (Weymouth) which was delightful until the Jezza Kyle crew started at about 2am with a full on family fight - fathers sons wives girlfriend etc you get the picture, 3 X ds loved it - very entertaining, they didn't realise you could use that many sweary words in a sentence! The boys also enjoyed scattering next doors roof with bread so that the sea gulls gave them an equally rude awakening later in the morning!

Mumberjack · 24/05/2016 16:32

Just back from our first haven holiday.
Yes there were some chavs there but who cares?
Mind you, we were midweek, in a quiet bit of the park which suited us (we have a 3yo and 3mo) and due to the kids' ages we didn't do the evening entertainment so if there was any rowdy noise or fighting we didn't see it.

Lots of smokers, huge blokes with massive beer bellies, screeching women - "Kylie Mae get ere now" was frequently shouted by the awful woman next to us. I hated it, but the DN's loved it (they joined in with everything too, bless them). The reality is that there are quite a few chav types but to be honest they certainly did not outnumber the rest of us (they were just more obvious mainly due to their rough, loud behaviour).
The worst behaved holiday makers ever encountered were at an all-inc hotel in Majorca (Club Mac/Jupiter), we left earlyr and paid to stay elsewhere, they were animals, no idea of decent behaviour, and were like a plague of locusts at the buffet. All Brits.
