To think that if you want to smoke cannabis, do it at home

I don't have a problem if people want to smoke ordinary cannabis in their own home, if it doesn't interfer with anyone else.

But lately I am smelling it almost every time I visit the (very nice, well-kept) local park, which means my child is, too.

Yesterday, there was a teenager smoking it down a very busy shopping street in London.

I know it's not treated as seriously as it once was but it's still illegal. I promise I'm not a pearl-clutcher. I just don't want to have a face/lung-full of this in the park!

Are these people using in public to prove a point or are they just idiots?

Agree, dope smoke smells foul. Grass a bit less so. Having said that, many people have an equally strong opinion as yours about (perfectly legal) fag smoke.

Passive smoking weed from a distance in an open area really won't harm anyone any more than normal cig smoke which to some people is equally abhorrent so on that basis yabu, and if you're concerned about it 'smelling like drugs' to your child surely they will be non the wiser anyway and you could totally get away with just saying it's a herbal fag if they ask (although it's doubtful they would even r register)?

Re smoking an illegal drug in public yanbu, and I say that as an ex smoker - carrying on with an immediately identifiable illegal activity in public is just brazen and foolish IMO! What are these people trying to prove??

At home can be just as bad. My neighbour and her mates smoke it in her back garden when the weather is nice. My whole house stinks of it sometimes when the windows are open.

I don't get why people are allowed to get away with it. It's illegal and should be clamped down on.

It really does smell bad and I'm still always a bit taken aback by how openly so many people smoke it when it's purportedly illegal . Walk past it a few times a week, no fucks given by the smokers at all. Seen people smoking it outside pubs a lot also.

It's not going to harm you but I do wonder why it's even illegal when so many people do it and never face any criminal charge.

I don't get why some people are so casual about it tbh, it's illegal, it's a drug, it does harm.

YANBU, but equally my next door neighbours used to smoke it and it was disgusting having the smell near me at home. Eugh.

Yeah it should be legal now, seems daft when it's much less harmful than drinking. I walk past people smoking it all the time... It's not just young lads, it's normal looking women, men in business suits. Policing it is such a huge waste of money that they probably don't bother. Everyone I know who smokes weed has never caused any bother to anyone/been admitted to A&E/anti-social behaviour.

I went to Drayton manor last week.

Was getting in the car to leave. Dad parked in front of us was smoking a joint. Got into the car with small children and drive off.

Makes me think who is Driving like this any given time.

Yesterday in a bakery in Dartmouth, man stunk of it.

I've smelled it on the school run (parents pushing buggies maybe 20 yards from the gate) before now. That's the morning 9am school run.

Yanbu. There's a time and a place, and that close to kids ain't it.

I don't think it's a threat to health - I just don't want to smell it and I shouldn't have to. I don't like ordinary smoke either but as it's legal, I can't complain.

Seriously - smoking dope in a car with children? On the school run or at home with children?

It smells awful. I get so fed up of smelling it all the time where I live. I also think its more lingering than normal smoke? Maybe because it takes longer to smoke a joint, I hardly ever smell someone else's cigarette smoke unless I'm really close to them but weed smell just takes over.
And driving while high or smoking near children is disgusting.

Actually I think a wee outdoor whiff of the herbal is considerably less offensive that having to sidestep the socially acceptable alcohol drinkers and cigarette smokers...

And as for some perfumes - they make me sick. Can we make them house only fragrances too? Just because they're legal doesn't make them less offensive */m looking at you chanel/

Most people don't smoke anything indoors any more, so I can understand why they smoke cannabis outside.

People smoke it everywhere here but to be honest, I cant ever remember getting a face full or a lung full of their smoke, as I tend not to stand/walk that close.

I agree it stinks, but then so do most of the takeaways and restaurants in this area.

I do like the smell of a joint when I walk past. Rather like a reformed smoker inhales any available fag smoke.

The smell is horrible in my opinion. They really should be more considerate and at least go somewhere with not as many people if they don't want to have the stink in their house. Or just eat cannabis cookies instead.

I am very happy that smoking tobacco in public becomes increasingly inacceptable, and would hate for cannabis to take the opposite route.

I am for legalisation of cannabis consumption, but have always been against the habit of smokers to make everyone else breathe their smoke. What is smoked only matters insofar that cannabis smells even worse than tobacco.

I would like the use of the word 'inacceptable' to become unacceptable, but we can't control other people's behaviour.

I've never understood the hysteria about tobacco smoke, really, I just think some people like to get a bit fucking excited about things.

Has it gotten stronger smelling in the last few years or is just about more?

I am certainly smelling it more than I used to and when I do it reeks.

There's a good case for making it legal, but let's not pretend it's as harmless as alcohol. It's not. Alcohol in moderation does no harm. Cannabis smoked in moderation still has a harmful on the lungs (more so than cigarettes).
