facebook "wisdom" that makes my teeth itch

This was 'liked' by a FB friend and I had to share on here as it had thousands of likes and far too many comments in agreement. I would hope there are people that find this as meaningless and pointlessly aggressive as I do?!?

I 'love my kids' as much as the next Peter Andre, but that doesn't mean they always 'come first' they are my priority but 'too each according to need and from each according to ability' is the creed I am trying to teach them. I love them but I don't live to serve them and neither does the rest of humanity. Maybe I am overthinking it...

Other examples of FB bollocks are welcome Grin

I would like to design a sparkly meme in a beautiful font that says:

"Just because somebody wrote it down
Doesn't make it true".

I know what you mean OP. Do these people want a round of applause for putting their kids first? Like it's unusual? Puts me in mind of that Chris Rock routine "You're SUPPOSED to take care of your kids, you dumb fuck!" Grin

Love that Chris Rock quote VagueIdeas

Doubt he will be reposting OP's example Grin

Maybe I should just go and join in the meme making?

I can't stand the "happy birthday to the most wonderful and totally excellent husband and father in the world, ever, bar none etc." posts. Tell them to their face (without the hyperbole) and shut the fuck up!

For me, it's on the same level and snogging at a bus stop. Nice for those involved but best done in public.

best not done in public!

I have no issue with the sentiment as such, though it is really stating the bleedin' obvious, isn't it? What irritates me even more is the "inspirational" quotes and psychobabble nonsense that some people share - it really is a load of semi-confrontational or self-aggrandising twaddle.

Don't even get me started on the "are you willing to change your status in honour of (insert cause here)" shite. Hmm No, no I am not actually because it isn't raising awareness of anything, is it?

But yeah, I have mostly hidden those "friends" who are serial offenders! Wink

yes, yes wanna. What does it say about us umbongo? Is cretin on the banned word list?

Report
BumWad · 23/05/2016 10:51

Yes I agree what a load of tripe.

Can we not stick to these kind of memes?

What do you mean what does it say about us?

I don't think my children are the most important people in the world and I don't especially want to live surrounded by people who think theirs are.

I agree with you, it is a bit disturbing that this is something someone would use to signal their virtue to their (presumably) similarly minded friends.

If you like. Quite happy with that though..the back slapping, Huns, mummiez and hubbiez brigade do make my teeth itch though....as was the point of the thread.

I just 'hide all from Pretty Rainbows ' or whoever generates the stuff (not the person who reposted it) and gradually the amount of guff reduces.

Ususal the Peter Andre thing is just a joke so yes it is memeingless but it isn't serious... it is not the same as the phrase in my op, which is meant to be repeated with a straight face.

I agree with the post but I always hate reading them - they come before YOU! I always think they sound so aggressive. What did I do to deserve to read that on my feed?

NannawifeofBaldr · 23/05/2016 11:17

bigmouth what's concerning if you read threads across MN there do seem to be reasonable numbers of people to do actually agree with the meme you've quoted.

I worry a little bit about what kind of adults those children are going to grow up into.

So I'm 'dim witted' ha Grin thanks for that!
At least I know I'm not so uptight and up my own Arse to be slagging other people for sharing a bloody meme Grin get a life Wink

I've seen one about never being too busy for your children, never telling them to wait a minute. And I think, fuck that, they can wait if I'm in the middle of something (unless it's urgent obviously) - I don't want them to think their wants always trump everyone else's wants (and needs) and that everyone should drop everything else immediately to serve them.

Obviously I love them and all! But I want them to be considerate members of society, not entitled arse holes who think the world revolves around them.

The ones that get me are,

she did this and my jaw dropped....

Followed by 300 ads you can't get through, only to discover she covered a loo roll tube with wrapping paper and called it a pencil pot.

Can someone tell me why on earth I still click them!!

Report
IWILLgiveupsugar · 23/05/2016 11:47

Agreed OP - it is needlessly aggressive. Sadly, I do know people who truly believe that their dc are the most important and interesting people in the world, ever! Not to me they're not cos mine are. It usually manifests as them expecting all social events to be geared around their kids and talking about them all the time.

Report
brightandshiney · 23/05/2016 11:48

I agree with you OP and herecomethepotatoes.

I've never understood why people write happy birthday posts on f/b when they live with the person!! Do they only communicate with each other via f/b.
