facebook "wisdom" that makes my teeth itch

This was 'liked' by a FB friend and I had to share on here as it had thousands of likes and far too many comments in agreement. I would hope there are people that find this as meaningless and pointlessly aggressive as I do?!?

I 'love my kids' as much as the next Peter Andre, but that doesn't mean they always 'come first' they are my priority but 'too each according to need and from each according to ability' is the creed I am trying to teach them. I love them but I don't live to serve them and neither does the rest of humanity. Maybe I am overthinking it...

Other examples of FB bollocks are welcome Grin

luna is that a quote from 'Stepford Wives'. It would certainly work even better backed with a picture of Katherine Ross.

I totally agree with Nanna and Steppe. I think putting your kids first 100% of the time and teaching them their wants trump everyone else's wants AND needs does not set them up to be happy adults or get on with others.

Thankyou Steppe.

Luna I have to wonder what the definition of "good man" means in that context.

I am going to post "I love my kids as much as the next Petr Andree" on my FB feed in your honour OP. Kudos.

Hang on, hang on. The assertion is incorrect. The kind of women who cook and clean are too busy and tired for the other thing.

Oh, and advice from the eighties about when 'kids' don't come first... when your husband has accidentally sliced his leg with a chainsaw and looks likely to bleed to death. When that happens, you leave the children with a neighbour while you pop him in the car and take the bleeding wreck to the hospital. If a limb is off, pack the ends in ice, just in case they can sew it back later.

I have a serial offender of these sorts of posts on fb - if it's not how much she loves her sons then it's about how "keraaaazy" she is, how much she loves "hubby" (who isn't on fb so why not go and tell him face to face rather than inflicting it on us) or general PA stuff like "People who have no life will always try and start a drama in yours".

I can't really block her for various reasons.

Meant to add this to my post ....as seen on serial offenders fb recently.

I was dying to post something like "Oh what?! You're kidding! I'm only proud of one of mine. The other one can get on their bike to be quite honest, so I'm not bloody sharing this"

I have a "friend" who posts this kind of guff regularly but not about her kids. Oh no she has no kids... She posts near identical memes but refering to her mangey moggie.
I think even less of people who post cat memes than I do people who aggressively profess their love for their kids. Yes I'm judgemental. So be it.

I saw one today "no bond is stronger than 2 girls that hate the same person".. Women I knew had liked it and there were loads of comments about how peoples friendships were based on hating the same people. I was shocked and saddened. My daughter is currently very sad at the hands of two other girls who are totally excluding her at school. And yes they are united in their bitchiness towards her but why on earth is a friendship based on hatred ever a thing to be celebrated!!!

I hate these posts, along with all the "my daughter is my world. Share this if your daughter is your world" etc and so on ... replace with Son where appropriate.
I've actually removed people for constantly being a wet sop and endlessly sharing shit like that.
Don't even get me started on the "type amen" or "my dad will sober up if this photo gets a million likes" Hmm
It always gobsmacks me how many of my friends like those posts!! It honestly makes me look at them in a whole new light, on being such stupid gullible twatwaffles!!

My kids are asshats. I'm fond of them and all that, but mostly I'm proud of myself having survived 10 years of their utter idiocy.

I agree with voteforpedr0 and this thread confirms: Facebook is full of shit, I actually deactivated my account a few months back and don't have a clue what my friends are doing now!

My favourite quote comes from pre FB, when I was new to parenting:

' I would lay down my life for my children but see no need to do so every day.'

And yes, yes to telling people in real life if they are utterly amazing and just squishy with fabulousness. No actual need for me to know at all. Confused.

Cao- whilst I wouldn't share the hideous pink meme that is a quote from my favourite childhood books. Princess in the book doesn't mean frilly sparkly Disney princesses. In the book being a "princess" is about being kind to those less fortunate than you, putting others first and treating other people respectfully and being polite to them even when they are awful to you. I loved it as a child and as an adult it makes me cry every time.
