To hate modern school assembly songs?

Following on from a recent thread about those bloody awful modern class photos.

When I was growing up in the 90's we used to sing religious based songs like All Things Bright and Beautiful and Who Put the Colours in the Rainbow? Now they sing bloody weird shit about school rules, one about the lunchtime queaue. A few even have raps in them! They are hideous and to be quite frank, mostly drivel. For some reason I really pine for the songs I sang as a child.

It's nothing to do with school assemblies becoming more secular either, because they have to have collective worship as part of the curriculum and still say the Lords Prayer, hear Bible stories so I don't understand why they can't sing proper old songs?

Also had an RE teacher who didn't like traditional hymns and got us to sing 'Jesus is my rock and he rolls my blues away...' while she played the guitar.

I have one to add for all those who had a good snigger at some of the words for some (I was cold, I was naked etc).

Join with us to sing God's praises
For His love and for His care.
For the hap-pi-ness he gives us
Praise Him for the world we share.

Can you guess where the year sixes had great difficulty singing along for laughing? - or sang aloud with great gusto - not sure which was worse!

PMSL. It sounds like a caricature of every sort of trendy religious bullshit out there!

Charley. Were they laughing at Pi sounding like Pee?

I got my copy of With Cheerful Voice. It has "When lamps are lighted" which i remember well. Also has two that we sang in the Infants "Daisies are our silver" and "There is a green hill."
Also has Jesus shall reign and God is working that i remember singing at senior school. Doesn't have Dear Lord and Father from same though.

God is Love His the care was a great favourite at my Junior school too.

My one act of pre-teen rebellion was to steal a copy of Come and Praise before I left Year 6 so that I could sing the hymns at home by myself

Cat, they were singing...

For the ha - penis he gives us.

Bless 'em!
