to be cross with 'dog people'

Ok so ill probably get burned for this but anyway...here goes...

Picnic with DP and DS at a local nature reserve, which is popular with families and dog walkers etc. Please note that there are signs everywhere saying that dogs should be on leads.

We're all enjoying our food on the grass in the sunshine and all of a sudden a massive, smelly, soaking wet dog lumbers over and proceeds to lick me and my DS and trample over the picnic. Said dog's owner scurries over, laughing and seeing that we had aghast looks on our faces said "oh dont worry...he's really friendly!" to which i replied "I couldn't care less if he was bloody lassie...get him on a lead!" Dog owner then throws me a filthy look, tuts, and leads soggy dog away saying "come on darling, clearly not everyone here likes dogs"

Now, im not anti-dog by any stretch, but AIBU to think that this is bang out of order and 'dog folk' should realise that not everyone loves their hairy beasts, especially when they are dripping pond water over their scotch eggs?!! Wink

This isn't the first time i have experienced this type of arrogance either. Like people letting their dogs sniff about at my DS when he was tiny in his pram...or letting them jump up when going to their houses.

Opinions please? Smile xxx

Yawn - I like dogs

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2016 16:58

jon the longer you spend on here the more you will get to know the topics that will get everyone going.

jonsnowssocks · 21/05/2016 17:04

Brief guide jon, there are many more but-

Cat poo in your garden
reclining your aeroplane seat
Folding down prams on buses or not
Eating food before paying in supermarkets (or anything that happens in supermarkets really)
Parent and Child parking spaces
Shoes on or off in the house
Ownership of toilet brushes
Anything to do with driving and/or cycling

jonsnowssocks · 21/05/2016 17:29

sparklingbrook thanks for the handy tips Smile I've seen references to this toilet brush thing on here this week and can't wait to find out why it's such a thing...

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2016 17:31

Well apparently they are dirty horrid things and you shouldn't have one. Grin

But HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CLEAN THE TOILET WITHOUT A BRUSH? ? stands back and waits for all hell to break loose Grin

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2016 17:47

Well that's the million dollar question Grin I have no clue as I have a toilet brush or two. Shock

Oh yes party invitation-never ever ask about them on here.

kali110 · 21/05/2016 17:51

Or maybe newcomers could not lump everyone together shit dog owners, that may help Grin

Why is it aibu that newcomers always seem to first post in Confused

I'm new as well and find all this bitchiness really unpleasant, and somewhat confusing. No one is forcing you to read certain threads

My sentiment entirely Johnsnow why not just scroll on past? Im not sure how newbies are supposed to be aware of all this stuff.

Give it time and it will all be like water off a duck's back.

That's MN for you.

After a while you learn to think long and hard before you post. Or get to the point where you just don't care.

And why anyone would want a poo stained toilet brush lurking in their bathroom is beyond me.

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2016 19:39

Yes, a poo stained one wouldn't be nice but a clean one is ok.

cherrypepsimax · 21/05/2016 19:41

No of course ynbu to expect to eat your picnic in peace. Obviously not all dog owners are like this. Lots of comments about people being terrified of dogs, if you're going to go to places like the beach or country parks then you're going to meet dogs. You're doing your children no favours by allowing their fear of dogs to continue, they can't avoid dogs for the rest of their life. We had a gsd that bit me when I was little and I was terrified of dogs until I was in my early 20's, I wish my parents had helped me overcome it when I was much younger. I love dogs now.

Numbkinnuts · 21/05/2016 19:43

My dog is never off lead when I see picnics about. It's asking for trouble !

The tempting smell of sausage rolls to a dog is just too much.

If venue says dogs on lead then so be it.

Does make me chuckle though when I see this happen Blush ( as long as it's not my dog ! )

capricorn why the need to be so rude? This was my first post and the first time i even looked at MN was a few days ago. I'm sorry if my post has irked you, but like others have said, why comment at all if its so predictable and dull?

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2016 20:11

Why did you think you would be 'burned' though?

kensausage13 · 21/05/2016 20:14

Its a common expression isnt it sparkling? From the reaction i'd had on this topic from a couple of my friends

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2016 20:17

I haven't heard 'burned' more 'flamed'.

But at least you were expected some varied replies which is exactly what you got. AIBU is like that as a topic.

StrangeLookingParasite · 21/05/2016 20:28

I quite like dogs. I went to a section of park here where people exercise their dogs; had a lovely time right up until a dirty little poodle came up and pissed on my foot, entirely unprovoked. Its owners rather unconvincingly said 'oh he's never done that before', while quickly getting water to rinse off what they could. Quite a lot of dog owners just don't get it.
OTOH, I met a really lovely borzoi, and a couple of nice labs and retrievers. Only this poodle was a rude little bastard.
