To think that the last proper good summer was 2003?

What is happening to our weather? It's always bloody cold and rainy.

The last proper warm sunny summer, when it was sunny all summer was 2003. Which is 13 years ago.☹️

Dd was born in July 2006. Hot all June and July, then shit August. In fact thinking about it, it's August that's always crap☹️

Yes 1990 had a couple of really hot weeks, but wasn't constantly hot as I recall. It coincided with our family holiday and found it horrible.

daisychain01 · 18/05/2016 06:13

I was going to start a thread about what a perfect early summer we are having!

Bright blue skies, but cool. The garden looks stunning, not all parched and over cooked, running and cycling comfortable and nice long evenings with very little cloud. What's not to like.

lostlalaloopsy · 18/05/2016 06:16

2014 was a great summer. I remember because I was heavily pregnant - roasting and miserable!!

crookedhooker · 18/05/2016 06:27

I got married in 2003 we went to Wales for our honeymoon and it was warmer than Tenerife. DS was born in 2007 it was horrendous everytime I took him out it poured with rain the only summer I've been off work since I was 14.

onlyconnect · 18/05/2016 06:48

2014 was the best of my life- born 1967- because it was long. 2013 not bad either

sall74 · 18/05/2016 06:48

I'm also convinced the weather has become much worse in recent years... I've been doing the same job since 2001 working outdoors, up until about 2008 I coped fine with the weather, probably only getting a real soaking on average perhaps once a month if that... now however the job is becoming almost impossible, getting pissed wet through at least 2-3 times a week regardless of the season, often running out of dry shoes and clothes to wear, spending more and more money on extra waterproofs.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 18/05/2016 06:53

I mived house on the hottest day in 2003. I thought the removal men might actually die.

maybebabybee · 18/05/2016 06:55

Yabu. It's been getting steadily warmer every summer for years now.

But then I hate hot weather. I love it when it's less than 5 degrees out.

NicknameUsed · 18/05/2016 06:58

"Yabu. It's been getting steadily warmer every summer for years now."

Not where I live.

JasperDamerel · 18/05/2016 07:06

2006 was lovely. I was made redundant at the end of my second trimester with DC1 so had the whole summer off to swan around and go on picnics.

maybebabybee · 18/05/2016 07:06

Tbh I'm more annoyed our winters have been so bloody warm. Winter 2012 was great. Since then they have just been mild and rainy.

JapanNextYear · 18/05/2016 07:12

OP makes a huge difference if you are north or south. North of about Manchester has had bad summers for about the last 6 years bar one, and another one that was ok. Jet stream shift has caused it. It's a bugger.

Toddzoid · 18/05/2016 07:17

2003 was brilliant. I spent most of the six week holidays in London with my dad, absolutely scorching. 37 c at one stage!

I don't think 2010 was a bad summer was it? I certainly know we were out with baby DS in nothing but a nappy from about May till August anyway. 2011 equally was quite hot. Last year wasn't the worst! I know May-July were mostly dry and hot anyway.

maybebabybee · 18/05/2016 07:22

I'm south. London. Desperate to move north just for the cold weather but can't persuade DP.

LunaLoveg00d · 18/05/2016 07:53

2014 when the commonwealth games was on in Glasgow was a fantastic summer. I was in the opening ceremony so we were outside practising 3-4 times a week and it was glorious, never rained on us once. (Well apart from the dress rehearsal!

I was a Clydesider and spent the first week of the games telling people from Aus or Malaysia that yes it was ALWAYS this warm in Glasgow and sweltering in my polyester top and long trousers! Great summer!

heron98 · 18/05/2016 08:42

2014 was OK, I seem to remember.

My sister lived in the south east for a few years and she said that the summers are better there. We live in Yorkshire and they always seem quite crap.

I would move down south if it wasn't so expensive, I had friends there and there were proper hills!

Middleoftheroad · 18/05/2016 08:54

2006 hottest summer I remember of late.I had just had babies and lived in a very hot flat with no garden. According to one report 2015 was the hottest overall summer on record? Hmm seem to recall shivering on a beach in Cornwall last year. Going abroad this year as fed up packing jumpers on holiday. As a child of the 70s and 80s I demand that the heatwaves return!

MavolioBent · 18/05/2016 09:55

Oh God 2003 was awful. I don't like the heat anyway but in Aug 2003 I was vastly pregnant with ds1 (due Sept arrived Oct). It was a special kind of hell.

Am sure there have been some fairly pleasant summer's since but I prefer cooler weather so my criteria is clearly different :)

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 18/05/2016 10:02

I wish someone would explain what the pleasure is in being hot. If the temperature creeps anywhere near 20 I just feel uncomfortable, sweaty, devoid of energy, bad-tempered and sun burnt. I really don't see what is desirable about that.

A sunny day with a gentle breeze: lovely. Otherwise it just seems like torture, especially if you are working.

wasonthelist · 18/05/2016 10:29

What is happening to our weather?
My Grandma used to say this - in the 1970s.

A lot depends on what you like - I am loving the current spell of bright weather followed by a little cooler and some rain. I loathe it when it gets hot and scorcio and won't pack it in.

I demand that the heatwaves return!

No thanks

maybebabybee · 18/05/2016 10:34

Yy dylan! Never understood it.

PinguForPresident · 18/05/2016 10:37

2006 was hot. I got the worst sunburn of my life at Glastonbury - despite wearing long sleeves and Factor 30. God, it was HOT!

NickiFury · 18/05/2016 10:39

Just coming on to say 2006 - the year dd was born, she came early September and I remember sweltering in the hospital because it was still boiling. I spent the whole summer flopping around on the spare room bed as it was the only cool place in the house.
