To think that the last proper good summer was 2003?

What is happening to our weather? It's always bloody cold and rainy.

The last proper warm sunny summer, when it was sunny all summer was 2003. Which is 13 years ago.☹️

Dd was born in July 2006. Hot all June and July, then shit August. In fact thinking about it, it's August that's always crap☹️

I ha4d dc in early September 2003. It was a very hot summer. It was a hot September too. I remember bringing her home from hospital in a summer baby grow with no blanket or hat.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 17/05/2016 19:19

I cannot remember a decent August in recent years.

I was 8 months pregnant and looking after a 2.5 year old in August 2003, and feeling pretty sorry for myself.

hazeyjane · 17/05/2016 19:28

2003 and 2006 felt like stand out hot summers. 2003 I was having chemotherapy and the heat was just horrible. 2006 I had dd1, and we lived in a mobile home, and we couldn't open the windows at night, it felt like we were in a tin box in an oven, bloody boiling!

But I am shit at hot weather, 1 hot day and I get to the end of it feeling dizzy and lightheaded and pining for winter.

2006 was the last good summer

NerrSnerr · 17/05/2016 19:32

I missed 2003 because I was abroad. 2006 appears to have completely bypassed me. I was probably working or drunk. The year after a bad flooding year was nice, 2009?

Abracadoodle · 17/05/2016 19:36

Well, from my point of view it's great.

The heat - anything over about 20 degrees - gives me migraine, rosacea, and makes me faint. (While the cold hurts my joints, gives me Raynaud's, and makes me afraid I'll slip on the ice and break something as I have osteoporosis.) Heat and cold are only good for the robust and healthy.

I LOVE the new, temperate, never-hot, never-cold UK, even if it is a byproduct of climate change.

Abracadoodle · 17/05/2016 19:37

I cancelled a trip to Paris in July 2013 because it was about 30 degrees. Can't remember a "heat wave" like that since.

Haudyerwheesht · 17/05/2016 19:39

I remember 2006 and 2010 as being hot but in suspect it might be influenced by the fact I was huge and pregnant. 2006 definitely was hot though I think

JuxtapositionRecords · 17/05/2016 19:40

Well the Daily Express have already printed their "HOTTEST summer on RECORD" prediction for 2016 so you can pretty much count this years summer as a loss.

Haudyerwheesht · 17/05/2016 19:41

But yes August is always shit hence why our kids go back to school then (Scotland)

2009 was really hot and sunny. I was unhappily heavily pregnant through it. 2010 was lovely too.

FlyingElbows · 17/05/2016 19:44

2006 was scorchio. I was massively pregnant and our car spontaneously combusted one evening!! We've just had summer here in Scotland, last week was lovely. Grin

NicknameUsed · 17/05/2016 19:46

It depends where you live though. Up here on the edge of the Pennines we had a hot July in 2013, a hot June and July in 2006 and a hot summer in 2003. In my memory the two hottest summers were 1976, and 1995, where we nearly ended up with standpipes and tankers were trailing down the motorways to fill the reservoirs in the Pennines with water from Kielder reservoir.

Acornantics · 17/05/2016 19:46

2003 was inflated cankles, bloated midriff and a 10lb baby at the end of it. Yup, I remember it being vair hot.

Honeyandfizz · 17/05/2016 19:46

Yes dd was born September 2003 so I was feeling like a whale that summer. I must admit I find the weather in this country utterly depressing. Long dark cold winters then spring & summer so changeable you can't plan a damn thing Angry

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 17/05/2016 19:47

It must just be northern climes getting the crap then. I live in Sheffield, and it's been pretty shit weather over the last few years.

However, what is really disturbing me, is l can remember all the shit summers and dwell on them🤔 needs to get a life

2014 wasn't awful, and 2005 and 2006 were good too.

I know what you mean, though. In general, recent summers have been a bit blah.

TwentyCupsOfTea · 17/05/2016 19:48

I remember 03 being like a spabish holiday every day!!

I remember December 10 being like a ski holiday in stark contrast! Brrrr

CharleyDavidson · 17/05/2016 19:52

It's still spring. It's supposed to be changeable and only warming up slowly until (hopefully) in July it gets hotter.

I think we also forget that, barring heat waves, this country is only expected to have, on average, temps (in the shade) of about 14-16 degrees (16-18 degrees in London) in July and August. Not temps of 20 and over that we'd really like.

Not been reading boringly about average weather in the Uk over the last 30 years, oh no, not me!

That said:
I'm torn.
I feel a bit sad when we get to Sept or Oct and realise that we have, yet again, not had a sustained period of nice warm weather.

But I'm rubbish at dealing with the heat.

It's lovely here and has been gorgeous for several days in a row......which is rare for Durham.

I too remember 2014 being a lovely summer.

judgelionelnutmeg · 17/05/2016 19:56

Been saying for years we've not had a really good summer since 2006 - 10 years ago!!!

I was a little'un during '76 so don't really remember it.

pigsDOfly · 17/05/2016 20:02

The last really good summer I remember - the sort of summer where you could sit out in a summer dress at 10 in the evening - was 1976.

Maybe I just feel the cold more now but I have summer dresses in my wardrobe that have only been worn once or twice because all the recent summers have consisted of the odd warm day here and there.

Not sure if I imagined it but I'm sure I heard something on TV a few weeks back that this summer is set to be really hot.
