Aibu to think losing teeth at 4 isn't exactly cause for celebration?!

DD is in reception class and over the past couple of weeks there's been a few fb posts about how "exciting" and "wonderful" it is that DCs have lost their first tooth.

Am I just being miserable in thinking that this isn't particularly a cause for celebration --especially at 4 years of age

No. I completely agree! It's the same as 'graduation' ceremonies from preschool/ nursery etc. Complete with gown and mortar board.

Plus the fact that apparently £5 is the 'going rate' for a first tooth. My DCs had best realise that this tooth fairy is on a budget when they even remember to come.

So? If they want to get excited over THEIR child burping the alphabet what does it matter too you? It's their social media account , it's their thoughts and opinions. Leave them too it , they aren't hurting anybody

Our dentist says children should loose first tooth between 4-6 years. So perfectly average no? They say they will investigate why the first isn't out if none out by 7 years.

If you think about it most only loose 1-2 teeth a year, so they do need baby teeth beginning to come out by 6 years as they should have all adult teeth by 18.

DS is 8 and only lost his 1st tooth just before turning 7.

Well why are you Facebook friends with random people you don't seem to like, jus because your kids go to reception together? seems a bit needy, yet you're judging them.

It's only because I asked dentist also as wondered when Ds first came out at 5. I had asked my parents when mine came out and they replied ' Erm, when you were a child..' Gee helpful

I can still remember being very excited about my first wobbly tooth when I was about 4 or 5 (I can remember that it was
winter but not if it was before or after my
winter birthday) and my first tooth fairy visit. I'd like to think my mum shared some of that excitement with me OP, so I'm going to say YABU.

People on my Facebook wall often seem excited about things I care little about (X Factor, holidays I'm not going on etc) but I don't let it bother me.

£5 does seem a bit steep though, not sure what the tooth fairy tends to pay round here as my eldest hasn't got there yet but I only got 20p to spend on penny sweets.

Well DS (just turned 10 and losing jaw teeth) gets 50p. £5.00 is ridiculous: it's meant to be a token bit of fun. DS's latest is actually lying forgotten on the coffee table because the tooth fairy novelty has worn off now.

Thanks for the psychological assessment there Tigger I'll be sure to bear that in mind although I'm not quite sure where you decided these were “random people” or more worryingly why you thought it was 4 year olds on facebook.
