AIBU to be doing the front garden on Whitsunday?

I am gardening in the front garden today - it resembles a jungle and today is the only day I have time or the energy to tackle it.
DH is shocked that I am doing it today as it is Whitsunday and the neighbours might be offended and it is disrespectful.

He is confusing me with someone who cares about what the neighbours might think or if their religious sensibilities are offended.
He hasn't made a big thing of it but I think he is B and I am a bit gobsmacked by his views. He thinks I am BU.
What does anyone else think?

Probably sound silly, but don't think I've even heard of Whitson, let alone know it's today.
But YADNBU - if others follow traditions or religious practices then let them, but you shouldn't be expected to adhere to it in your own home so you don't offend them!

I think he's worried that you're going to ask him to help with the garden.

Are there special rules for Whitsun that don't apply on other Sunday's?

I didn't know it was Whitsunday and now I'm wondering what it is supposed to mean as I am an absolute Heathen. If it means I have to put my feet up all day, I can get in board with that.

Had not realised its Whitsun and not aware of any special non-gardening traditions! So no, YANBU.

Don't think it's Whitson day today, even if it was what difference does it make to gardening. Never heard anything like that before and my mil was deeply religious.

I think if you Morris Dance at the same time you can get away with it.

Ooh just looked it up, I now also know what pentecost means. Doesn't mention anything about gardening in the Wikipedia entry.

No idea what Whitsunday is or why it would mean that gardening was suddenly considered offensive. Is is supposed to be a day of rest or something? DH is out the front mowing the lawn as we speak. So far no angry mob with torches and pitchforks in sight but will keep you posted

I'm in Ireland and people are as likely to mow the lawn on sundays or religious holidays as any other day. Actually DH was out doing a bit of weeding this morning and we weren't mobbed by angry neighbours.
