To absolutely HATE ironing?

I've come to terms with it, I'm a terrible housekeeper. I don't mind doing any other chore (apart from bins, that's DP's job) but I'm just not very good at ironing so I don't do it. DP irons his own shirts but other than that I do not see the point.

Aibu to avoid ironing and think that it's not essential unless the clothes are horrifically creased? I'd much rather save the hours of pain and suffering and put netflix on.

Prepared to be flamed for not being a proper adult Grin

I only iron clothes about once a year, usually for interviews or weddings. Thankfully I live in jeans and cotton tee shirts and work at a university so can just about get away with it Wink

Misnomer · 14/05/2016 19:14

YANBU. I rarely iron. The evenings is the only time I would be able to do it and most of the time I'm far too tired. DH does his own ironing and I made it very clear to him that I wouldn't be taking on his ironing when we got together.

dementedpixie · 14/05/2016 19:15

I hate it too but do iron dh's shirts and the kids school clothes (they have to wear shirts too Sad. Before you ask why I do dh's shirts, he cooks my dinner most nights so it all evens out.

P1nkP0ppy · 14/05/2016 19:21

I love it, and every except socks, tights, towels and bras gets ironed.
Nothing nicer than wearing nicely ironed clothes or sleeping between smooth sheets/duvet cover.

JimbosJetSet · 14/05/2016 19:26

Clothes get ironed for weddings, funerals and interviews in this house (2 adults and 2 school age children). It takes longer to locate the iron than to do the task usually.... Life is too short to do a non-essential chore if you don't enjoy doing it!

ijustwannadance · 14/05/2016 19:33

I don't iron anything unless absolutely necessary. Can't be arsed. DP irons his own work shirts.

My DM still stands there for hours a week ironing.

BigPantyGirl · 14/05/2016 19:39

YANBU I hate ironing and very rarely iron anything. I work from home, DP is a builder and all smart clothes are just hung up to dry properly so they don't need ironing.
I actually lost my iron for 6 months last year - my mum was horrified with me Grin

DramaAlpaca · 14/05/2016 19:41

I hate ironing, I only do it when I absolutely have to.

DH does his own shirts, and I have the teens trained to do their own too.

laceylou25 · 14/05/2016 19:51

I hate ironing too so don't do it.

idontlikealdi · 14/05/2016 19:52

I don't understand ironing angst, I just don't do it. Ever.

Hang, smooth, fold - ironing not required.

Aworldofmyown · 14/05/2016 19:57

I don't iron. I don't buy clothes that need ironing.

Its a bit of a joke in my family and my mum loves to tell the story of how my daughter once asked her what on earth she was doing, when ironing one day!

I couldn't care less Grin

PearlMcClutcher · 14/05/2016 20:23

Life's too short to be a martyr to ironing! I gave it up years ago :-)

GunnyHighway · 14/05/2016 20:33

Marry a soldier. We're brilliant at ironing (our own kit at least?)

Archaea · 14/05/2016 20:43

We use our iron maybe once/ twice a year. We find giving things a quick spray with water and 10min in the tumble dryer smoothes out most things . (Please no-one tell my mum)

Lucyccfc · 14/05/2016 21:00

I hate ironing too, but have to have ironed clothes. I tried the 'hang it up and smooth it' method. Sorry to those who do,it on here, but it's crap and you can seriously tell that clothes haven't been ironed. It just looks scruffy.

The answer was to get someone else to do it. My favourite part of the week, is when the lovely ironing lady brings back all my clothes, pressed and hung in bags. It puts such a smile on my face.

parrotonmyshoulder · 14/05/2016 21:02

Our clothes look shit without ironing. I do about an hour a week. With headphones and an audio book. It's a convenient escape from playing with small children for me...

LadyHonoriaDedlock · 15/05/2016 00:01

Why on earth iron? I used to, then all my electricals had to be replaced after a house fire. I didn't bother to get a new iron and I have to say that after two years no-one has commented.

NatalieRushman · 16/05/2016 01:43

Apart from when I'm sewing, I think I've ironed about 5 times in my entire life. It just seems so pointless to me. I don't even think my DM has ironed for over a decade... All my high school shirts were non iron Grin

Baconyum · 16/05/2016 01:47

I don't iron - well extremely rarely. My mother irons towels, bedding, teatowels and pants ffs! Then moans about the never ending pile of ironing Grin

Life's too short!

Toddzoid · 16/05/2016 01:52

I only iron DC's school uniform but I'm going to get the non-iron stuff for September Grin. Hate it. Hardly anyone I know does it anyway... Except my grandma that irons everything including bed sheets and socks Confused.

FabFiveFreddie · 16/05/2016 01:55

I iron to the Archers omnibus followed by weekend women's hour. I couldn't just iron, too mindless. Such a futile task, but has to be done (don't like wearing synthetic fibers and cotton/linen/wool has to be ironed to look decent).

One day, when I'm all grown up and sorted out, I will send my bedsheets out to be washed and ironed.

KoalaDownUnder · 16/05/2016 01:57

I fucking loathe it. With the power of a thousand suns.

I would honestly rather scrub toilets than iron.

And everything goes all creased and shit within minutes of putting it on, anyway.

Aaaaarghhhhh.

maxeffort0satisfaction · 16/05/2016 07:08

who cares if the clothes are creased? so long you're clean and don't smell!!

I like ironing but even then I don't always iron, uniforms or otherwise. life is too short and not all of us can afford to pay others to do it.

Savagebeauty · 16/05/2016 07:12

I love ironing. I do maximum an hour a week which is all mine. Ds does his own.
I would never wear creased clothes.

saltwiththat · 16/05/2016 07:19

I don't mind it, although hate most other household chores. I do at as soon as the washing comes off the line, so 10 mins every day.
Only iron shirts, trousers, bed linen and the front of t shirts.
