To wish adults would stop drinking so much coffee.

The smell wafting along the room assaulting my nostrils is sickening. Especially coffee breath, which other people can smell even if you can't. WHY AND HOW DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS? I'm getting sick to the back teeth of having to consciously suppress gagging every day. Even just walking down the street, I can smell it. It reeks.

And then to add insult to the injury every cafe sells 500 different types of coffee, 300 teas and only 2 cold drink options. Angry So I can't even enjoy my plastic cup of tap water in peace without the smell of complex coffees mixing!

Am I the only adult that hates this stuff?

(Lighthearted sort of. I've had a bad day...)

One of my friends loves it and he said "it's an acquired taste. You power few the first few drinks and then you love it"

But why power through to make yourself love something?!

Bloody hell, I would never have dreamed that coffee drinking could cause so much angst! The analysis and reasoning behind the coffee drinkers motives.

I've never heard anyone express these views in RL, it's fascinating!

Mind you, I don't have a sense of smell! Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/05/2016 10:21

It is an acquired taste and an addiction. If I go for several hours without coffee I get a withdrawal headache which is awful.

Whisky2014 · 15/05/2016 10:21

I like one coffee when I get to work then through the day I might have 4 or 5 cups of tea then I get home and might have one more cuppy. I also enjoy water or diluting juice.
I used to hate it when my parents were always making cups of tea and coffee, especially when then came home from something. Couldn't understand it. It seemed like that's all adults did. I have never seen my dad have a diluting juice!
I think there should he a range of adult soft drinks that aren't full of sugar and aren't hot!

But I do love my cuppys too!

UmbongoUnchained · 15/05/2016 10:23

I don't drink any hot drinks and do feel a little childish when in a coffee shop with friends.

I also couldn't date someone who drinks coffee. No matter how much they scrub their teeth that smell does not go away 😷

Whisky2014 · 15/05/2016 10:30

I don't drink hot drinks to quench try thirst. I always have water or diluted juice or fresh orange and soda. I drink hot drinks to keep me cosy especially at work where Im usually freezing!

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 15/05/2016 10:31

I can't stand alcohol breath. I've got off buses before today because the stench has been too much.

So while I disagree about the lovely beautiful glorious coffee, I have my own hatred and will thus sit on the fence with a coffee in hand and endure the splinters.

RebootYourEngine · 15/05/2016 13:03

I gave up coffee about 8 years ago due to ibs. Caffeine inflamed my ibs.

I dont like the taste of tea. Six months or so ago i thought i would try a cup of coffee and realised i wasnt missing much taste wise so havent bothered since. My friend cant do anything without having a tea and a cigarette first.

FutureGadgetsLab · 15/05/2016 13:30

It seems like an addiction but I'm baffled people try it in the first place!

I'm baffled why people try smoking or illegal drugs in the first place.

I have always liked coffee and tea. My parents drank it and I was a confirmed tea and coffee drinker by the time I started secondary school.

DD (15) doesn't like "grown up drinks" and gets teased about it at school.

postmanpatscat · 15/05/2016 14:16

I don't drink tea, or coffee, or alcohol. I'm not a child, I'm 48. I drink what I enjoy, so 95% of my drinks are peppermint tea or tap water. The remainder are milk or hot chocolate.

FutureGadgetsLab · 15/05/2016 14:31

Nickname Smoking I agree, drugs are usually to experience the effects.

I like the taste of coffee, I didn't have to power through

wavingnow · 15/05/2016 14:50

I can't tell you what tea smells like to me , actually just typing this makes me feel yuck to put it mildly.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 15/05/2016 14:57

I'm with you and the plastic beaker of tap water.

What really gets me is the "ooh. I can't do anything until I've had my 3rd cupboard coffee"

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 15/05/2016 14:57

Cupboard?
Cup of....

That pisses me off too. Or people who have to keep stopping for a cup of coffee when out!

Until this thread I had never encountered the idea of "tea breath". Coffee breath, yeah - but after drinking coffee I can feel my mouth feels scummy, IYSWIM? Never have anything remotely resembling that with tea. I can't smell tea breath even if I haven't drunk tea for ages. Confused

I love coffee, but find it has pronounced laxative effects if I drink too much, so rarely touch it.

tappitytaptap · 15/05/2016 15:36

I am probably going to get flamed but find adults who don't drink tea or coffee a bit childish. In my job I meet clients for coffee regularly, I'd feel a right moron ordering a hot chocolate (I do like and drink it!) because I'd look about 12.

NicknameUsed · 15/05/2016 15:37

I don't. I find it easy when it is my turn to make a brew at work and some of my team members just want their water bottles filling up. Each to their own and all that.

BoxofSnails · 15/05/2016 15:38

I dislike the smell of tea, but other people drinking it don't bother me. There are many smells that, if they linger, are less than pleasant.
I love coffee - I have one on my work mornings. Always ground coffee. If out at a friends or a coffee shop I'll drink decaf, I like the taste. I used to drink more til I had to have half of my bowel removed - the stimulant effects are worse the less bowel you have. I miss it - but like most soft drinks, cordials or fizzy.

If you dislike something I think you notice it more. I don't drink and find I can smell it more now.
