To find the person wearing Poison (lighthearted)

in the office and ask her never to wear it to work again?

Seriously, that stuff hasn't got any less stinky since it's late 80s/early 90s heyday. Plus I can smell it at my desk and whoever it is - and let's face it, she won't be hard to find - must be over ten metres away.

I do not understand the attraction of Issey Miyake either. It smells very odd to me - a bit like oysters and, occasionally on the wrong person, like semen.

Willow2016 · 13/05/2016 14:30

Well here is another one. Used to love it but havent had it in an years since I was young and first into buying 'good perfume' when I had money to myself Smile

Must have been in boots for hours on the run up to Xmas smelling perfumes and 90% of them were vile! All these perfumes churned out by 'houses' and 'stars' just to make money, barfing!

Must be old fashioned but I love Anais Anais, Rive Guache and Opium, got Black Opium for Xmas but a little goes a long way with good perfume! Did get Daisy for a present once which was nice. Got J'adore from a friend when she came back from hols once, hated it thought it was some cheap muck until I realised it was quite expensive Blush

But then perfumes smell differently on different people so horses for courses. Would be little choice if we all liked the same thing.

This reminds me of a friend I used to have in the 70s who would smother herself in poison at every opportunity.

She rang me one evening in tears saying that everyone at work (she was a psychiatric nurse) was ganging up on her and bullying her. Apparently during a meeting someone had mentioned how unpleasant they found her perfume (poison) and asked if she would please stop wearing it. At that point everyone else at the meeting had piled in to agreed, which did sound a bit nasty.

Must admit that I did feel very sorry for her because it must have been really horrible having everyone having a go at you, but at the same time, as someone who spent quite a bit of time with her, I had to agree with them.

I used to love Poison...20 odd years ago. Hated LouLou. I worked in a clothes shop and travelling in the lift with all the other staff before opening made me feel sick because I think they all bathed in LouLou!

Ilovewillow · 13/05/2016 16:19

Please do its vile!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/05/2016 16:29

Poison
J'Adore
Opium
Rive Gauche
Giorgio Beverly Hills (if it still exists)

All absolutely stink and more than a passing whiff is likely to give me a migraine.

YANBU.

Beepbopboop · 13/05/2016 16:29

I bought a bottle of poison once. I have absolutely no idea why, must of got it mixed up with another scent that was stilly nice.
When I got home and tried it on I realised it smelt vile and never used it again. Was gutted I wasted that much money. And it's put me off all perfume for life.
The smell is seared in my brain. 😷

Sallystyle · 13/05/2016 16:29

Hypnotic poison is beautiful. I love that stuff

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/05/2016 16:30

Oh and Obsession, thats another headache inducer.

Beepbopboop · 13/05/2016 16:31

Actually*

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 13/05/2016 16:37

I love it...in fact dh bought me some for christmas...but I don't work in an office, and am not called Pat

It lasts for at least two days on me, so I am frugal with it. I think it's been discontinued, it's only available in the EDT now. I might have to try the Hypnotic Poison again.

It's Estee Lauder Youth Dew I am not keen on. And AnaisAnais, but that's so cheap it barely lasts past the first spritz anyhow.

Arkwright · 13/05/2016 16:53

My grandmother wears Youth Dew by the gallon load. It's a horrible smell. I told her that you couldn't buy it any more. Her friend got her some rip off stuff from the market which is nauseating.

teafortoads · 13/05/2016 18:16

Is Hypnotic Poison socially acceptable please or am I offending the snouts of the masses?

KittyKrap · 13/05/2016 18:25

Hypnotic poison was lovely but think it's discontinued? In other news they've upped the poison threshold of old to make Poison Girl smell like something you rub on horse muscles.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 13/05/2016 18:26

Poison wasn't out in the 70s.

The only perfumes that ever makes me want to throw bleach at people are Bodyt Shop White Musk and Lancome Tresor. Marilyn-in-our-office used to wear that and it made me feel completely bilious.

I loathe all the current "pink" smelling perfumes. Flowerbomb, all those intermixable sugary sweet things. Horrid.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 13/05/2016 18:28

I don't think any of the Poison flankers smell like Poison or are meant to? In the aame way that Miss Dior Cherie is just another one of those pink smelling things unlike proper Miss Dior.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/05/2016 18:49

YY to the unbearable awfulness of White Musk too.

x2boys · 13/05/2016 18:51

poison tendre was quite nice though.

PirateFairy45 · 13/05/2016 18:57

I love poison!

emotionsecho · 13/05/2016 19:01

One whiff of Poison and I'm half way to a migraine.

Cakescakescakes · 13/05/2016 19:35

It's the Armani She for me. Is that what is called? I used to have a boss who covered herself in it. It's so overwhelming. I get flashbacks every time I smell it now.

Ladybirdbookworm · 13/05/2016 19:48

Yes yes to Tresor - when I was pregnant just seeing an advert in a glossy magazine made me throw up

Lou Lou also makes my salivary glands go into overdrive - yuck

But I'm mortified because someone at work recently said my Chanel no5 stinks and it smells of old lady

I wanted to smell like Marilyn Monroe

Hepzibar · 13/05/2016 19:55

I loved Poison still do stopped wearing it when I met DH - he said my perfume was vile Shock

Before my Poison period - I wore Anais Anais and before that Charlie Grin

I reckon you could age people from the perfumes they wore

Chartwellhall · 13/05/2016 20:03

Poison the original was a step too far for me, but I wore and still wear the other Poisons. They smell like playdough to me, which is just about perfect to my nose. Have moved onto Tom Ford perfumes now.

pigsDOfly · 13/05/2016 20:30

Just seen pp saying Poison wasn't around in the 70s. It must have been in the 80s my friend was set on at work. Could have been, we were friends off and on for years, although haven't seen her for about 3 years now. Anyway, it was several years ago and Poison smell foul.
