To think our house is haunted?

Amy214 · 12/05/2016 22:19

Quite long sorry

My mum has lived here for 36 years (my dad moved in at a later date. Mum was just divorced with 2 children) and only 2 people have previously lived here (it was a new ish house back then) when my siblings were younger they experienced some weird things (in my room mostly) my sister said she would see dark shadows standing at the bottom of her bed, she also said she seen a woman who looked like my mum with a jacket on and had her handbag. My brother also experienced someone punching underneath his bed (was full of toys and other rubbish so no one could fit underneath) my mum also checked under the bed and no one was there. He also felt someone breathing on his face. I am now in the same room and i have also felt/heard some weird things. My niece used to stay overnight and she would wake up in the middle of the night and just stare at the door and laugh (room was dimly lit) she is 3 now and has spoke about a man and woman being in the house (casual conversations with thin air) now dd is here weirder things have happened, dd used to sleep in my room and one day when i went to pick her up from a nap she looked right past me and laughed at something, i stepped away and she was still staring at the same thing. She also giggles as if they have said/done something naughty. When im in the room myself i always feel something tugging at my arm or scratching my foot. i have also seen dark shadows at the end of my bed, also at night i always hear a newborn baby cry (we are the only ones in the block with a toddler, neighbours are older) i also hear what sounds like children running up and down the stairs. 3 nights ago i was lying in bed and i heard a mans voice clear as day in my ear, it was very deep and i couldnt understand a word. I got such a fright i leapt out of bed and switched the light and no one was there, no one was outside and my dad was sleeping. Since dd has moved into her own room she has settled and no longer wakes up in the night. How do i check who the previous occupants were? And if there was a death? The house was built in 1975. Or are we just crazy Grin

I once woke up pinned to the bed and a man in a black cloak was sitting at the side of me. I was awake but I could not move an inch or make a sound. Turns out I was experiencing sleep paralysis as a result of some new medication. However, I do not automatically discount the paranormal.......after all, people once thought the earth was flat and that if you sailed to the horizon you'd fall off. We don't know everything, science proves this to us every day.

Finelytuned · 13/05/2016 18:47

liz it was a tongue in cheek response to you wanting a rational explaination. The joke is that it is the most obvious reply you'd get. hates having to explain jokes

liz70 · 13/05/2016 18:49

I've never experienced sleep paralysis, LJ, although I'm aware of the phenomenon. Everything I've experienced has happened when I've been awake, much of it during the day.

Finelytuned · 13/05/2016 18:50

But I've reported my post no problem.

liz70 · 13/05/2016 18:55

Oh, okay, Finely. Sorry. Grin I'm a bit slow that way sometimes. Blush I should have taken your winking smiley at face value.

And yes, jokes are never funny when explained. Grin

liz70 · 13/05/2016 18:56

Now I really don't get it. Why have you reported your post? Confused

I have experienced sleep paralysis and i know how it feels. I dont understand why everyone is making fun of it? Do you see them making fun of you for believing in god? (thats if you do) i dont understand why people believe in a man/woman that they havent seen, heard or spoke too but i dont tell them that they are stupid or make pathetic jokes.. People will believe what they want so why not just leave us to it? Im not a firm believer but i have experienced some things that cant be explained..

Finelytuned · 13/05/2016 19:05

I reported it after your first reply because I could see that it upset you.

This is starting to get too weird for me now Confused

liz70 · 13/05/2016 19:05

Okay, no more joking around. I refer you to the final part of my sentence, in bold. All of what I posted is a factual account of events that have actually taken place.

I won't waste my time repeating that again.

liz70 · 13/05/2016 19:20

I'm not upset. I simply stated what has happened to me. I expected the mockery, but I thought that others might be interested, and to back up other posters' assertions that we indeed do not know everything.

By "too weird" I'm unsure if that refers to the fact that you don't believe my account, in which case that can't be helped. I don't have the ability to prove that I'm telling the truth so I don't fret about it; people can either believe it or not.

Or does it refer to the "weirdness" of the events themselves. I don't know. I've lived it for ten years now, done a ton of reading around the subject matter in order to try to better understand what's going on.

pinkmagic1 · 13/05/2016 19:25

I think there are things that can't be explained and people are very narrow minded to suggest that the paranormal does not exist, whether this be the actual spirits of the deceased or a more rational scientific explanation such as some sort of residual energy. I know far too many perfectly sane individuals who have experienced and seen the unexplained to count off the existence of the supernatural entirely.

AndTakeYourPenguinWithYou · 13/05/2016 19:26

And before anyone says, "I don't believe you", I. don't. care. I will happily and confidently assert, swearing on all my three daughter's lives, till the day I leave this life myself, that all of the above have happened to me, exactly as I have described above

Lookit you can swear what you like, but if you really truly believe that you were talking to a dead person who had hid your phone, you need to speak to a psychiatrist. It's not ghosts, thats mental illness.
I'm not being mean, seriously. You are hallucinating, thats not good.

Ladybirdbookworm · 13/05/2016 19:34

AndTakeYourPenguin

Are you a psychiatrist ???
That last post is just plain goady

AndTakeYourPenguinWithYou · 13/05/2016 19:38

It really, really isn't. Anyone hearing voices who thinks that spirits are hiding their possessions truly does need to speak to a medical professional.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/05/2016 19:39

The useful, serious response is: there are no such things as ghosts. 'Residual energy' is not a 'rational scientific' explanation. You haven't experienced ghosts, and if you think you have, I would be concerned.

The only arrogant person here is you AndTakeYourPenguinWithYou, you sound quite unpleasant. Who are you to say that just because someone doesn't believe in the same things you do, that they are thick.

I'm a massive atheist. I don't understand how anyone can believe in a god, particularly one who oversees so many tragic things and who apparently made a world that is so flawed. But I wouldn't assume I am the one with the answers, actually it tends to be religious people who are arrogant as they refuse to ever see that they could be wrong. Ghosts are no different. I am open to the idea. I think there are some things that cannot be explained away. I am certainly not stupid and resent the implication that because I have an open mind, I must be stupid.

Finelytuned · 13/05/2016 19:58

Please accept my sincere apologies liz. I did start off being lighthearted and teasing you but I'm going to be totally straight and serious now because it's definitely not my intention to be a twat and I'm truly sorry if it came across that way.

It really, really isn't. Anyone hearing voices who thinks that spirits are hiding their possessions truly does need to speak to a medical professional.

This is real advice liz. Please don't think this is goading or being unkind. And I'm sorry again for any twattery on my part.

AgentCooper · 13/05/2016 19:59

Can we not just have a good woo thread? I love a good woo thread.

Finelytuned · 13/05/2016 20:00

agent yes!!

liz70 · 13/05/2016 20:05

No, I am not hallucinating, nor am I mentally ill. I explained quite clearly what happened. My phone was not in my pocket, then a few minutes later, after I had told 'nameofperson' to bring it back, it was. No living person entered my hallway in that time. But I've said all that. I could go round in circles forever repeating myself.

And with the greatest respect, I'm not bothered whether you intend to be mean or not. I'm just saying what happened.

Accusations of mental illness is another line the cynics throw out when presented with other people's inexplicable experiences. Again, not at all original.

crankyblob · 13/05/2016 20:06

Loads of people have witnessed the same things I did! I still do not think it was ghosts.

imo there are so many natural things we can do that science hasn't discovered yet! Dogs show that they are capable of an element of physic ability! What's to say our brains are not naturally wired that way and we have just not unlocked it?

Finelytuned · 13/05/2016 20:11

cranky
Agree with every word.

liz70 · 13/05/2016 20:19

Again, plenty has happened when either DH and/or my parents - when they've been visiting us - have been there to witness it too.

Also, I know of four other people IRL who have had experiences of ADC from this person, three of them close friends (of the person). I've compared notes with two of them when we've met up. I don't doubt that other friends and family have too; they're just the ones I'm aware of myself.
