namechanged. I find this phrase completely and utterly unnecessary and annoying..so there! Ok..those that go to the effort of prefixing this phrase to a sentence are not actually reading and running but they want you to know that they're not reading and running..it makes no sense!

Okay Confused Then... say that then?

You can't dictate what others write on a talk forum.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 12/05/2016 11:42

wolfwhistleme Thu 12-May-16 11:27:35 Extrahotlatte. . You're not really in the spirit for a bit of fun are you?! ...Take a biscuit for your delightful twat comment!

Oh, I'm in the spirit for a bit of FUN, I just don't think people being goady & name changing to do it, so it's not associated with the 'nice' name, is either ethical or fun.

PregnantAndEngaged · 12/05/2016 11:42

I found it quite good when I was worried about something and someone said they didn't want to read and run so was offering support but they weren't able to offer anything additional as they didn;t have any advice. It at least made me feel like I wasn't alone even if they weren't able to offer me practical advice.

wolfwhistleme · 12/05/2016 11:43

Don't be sad Fourquenelles. I'm not intending to upset people. Use the phrase all you like peeps. peeps, did I say peeps will the strike through attempt work?

wolfwhistleme Thu 12-May-16 11:39:32 BertieBotts..I can see what you mean. I would prob write something like : "I can see how this must be distressing for you, don't have personal experience in this area but please keep us posted on progress." Rather than the annoying

God, that's a hundred times worse. Keep us posted on progress? It really IS all about you isn't it.

wolfwhistleme · 12/05/2016 11:45

Ok Preg. Noted.

OP posts:
Ginkypig · 12/05/2016 11:48

I don't have much more to add that's not been said but don't want to read and run!

MardleBum · 12/05/2016 11:50

I agree it's a bit pointless. If you haven't got time to give a considered answer then just bookmark it and come back to it later when you have. I don't think it's necessary to bump the thread - if you saw it then so will others.

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 12/05/2016 11:52

Well IMHO you should have cancelled the cheque then none of this would have happened.

Grin
wolfwhistleme · 12/05/2016 11:53

Agreed Mardle.

OP posts:
LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 12/05/2016 11:53

I think the sentiment behind the phrase is very positive. Sometimes you just don't have the time or experience to help someone who is clearly very distressed but want to offer some moral support.

Have you never posted feeling a little fragile OP? I have and my thread didn't get very many replies - but the replies I did get meant an awful lot to me at that moment, even if they couldn't really help as such.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 12/05/2016 11:56

So Mardle are you suggesting pregnant is lying?

wolfwhistleme · 12/05/2016 12:01

Likeasoul. What you said makes sense. Its the sentiment. This wasn't meant to offend anyone who does use the phrase.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 12/05/2016 12:07

No idea why you name changed

I've been saying the same thing for bloody ages Grin

Whenever I see, "I didn't want to read and run"

I want to say, "Pssst! They can't see you, you know" Wink

wolfwhistleme · 12/05/2016 12:12

[big grin] Worraliberty. I don't really know why I name changed, pointless really. Anyway I'm off for lunch! a new crepe shop round the corner (another bit of pointless info)

OP posts:
DonkeyOaty · 12/05/2016 12:21

Mmmmmm crepes

diddl · 12/05/2016 12:34

I'm with you OP.

Just watch the thread & answer when you can!

MerryMarigold · 12/05/2016 12:35

I think Worra and wolf have completely misunderstood the phrase. It means I didn't want to read it and just disappear as if I hadn't read it/ or had read it and couldn't care less. I want you to know that a) I read it and b) I care.

Simples. (Now there's one that annoys me, but on an annoying thread we may as wheel them out).

Oysterbabe · 12/05/2016 12:39

I find it less annoying than some carcass starting a goady thread and not even having the guts to do it in their name.

GarlicShake · 12/05/2016 12:43

A goaty thread by a carcass! Is it a goat carcass? Barbecue, everyone!

We need more goaty threads.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 12/05/2016 12:46

Exactly Marigold.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 12/05/2016 12:53

I read the thread title and before reading the OP I had already decided, YANBU, it is dangerous to read and run but I was impressed that anyone could actually manage it.

GarlicShake · 12/05/2016 13:43

You're right, Kondo. It'd be hard to do without the words jiggling all over the place. I wouldn't want to read and run, either. Mind you, I wouldn't want to run, full stop.

SilverBirchWithout · 12/05/2016 13:53

Surely, this thread is really just a bit of harmless fun, someone getting something that irritates them off their chest. Why are some people getting so angry.

Isn't the pointless NC also making a interesting comment about why on earth people bother to state that's what they've done.

Now that does irritate me. Why say you have name changed, it doesn't prove anything, surely a troll could say that too? If you were just a genuine first time poster, it doesn't make any difference to how people should respond. Just why?

BipBippadotta · 12/05/2016 14:07

I think this phrase is annoying when there's something I want to know, and my internet search only brings up results from forums (generally of the less helpful variety than MN), and I click one where someone's asked the same question I want to ask, and the only answers are thousands of variations on, 'No experience of this, sorry, didn't want to read and run, but hope someone will be along soon who can help!! xx.'

Can see how it's a nice thing to do as long as it's not the only answer you ever get on a thread.
