How long until the bride realises it's about her? When are journalists going to research for their own, original news?!

The OP of the original thread has been active on MN since at least 2013, and I've always found her sensible and level-headed. I see no reason to doubt her post.

Pinkheart5915 · 12/05/2016 00:19

Penis beaker, every time some body mentions it I have a little chuckle 😂😂

I think there is a good chance the bride, cheque thread was real there is some greedy ungrateful people out there.

JessieMcJessie · 12/05/2016 00:25

The wording of the Guardian and the Daily Mail articles is identical except that the Guardian one is properly subbed. This means that the story was actually picked up by a press agency and then sent by wire to all subscribing papers/ media organisation. All they have to do is cut and paste.

CantWaitForWarmWeather · 12/05/2016 00:30

God I feel so sorry for the OP of the original thread.

Rainbowqueeen · 12/05/2016 01:57

it's made it to Australia

www.news.com.au

Which I guess show journalists in all countries can be lazy

Hence my new name. It really does make me think before starting a thread sometimes. I had a MIL one that I could have really seen them jumping on. I genuinely would have liked some opinions but because the situation was so identifiable, I didn't post. If the RL people involved had recognised themselves, the whole thing could have made the whole sorry affair, 10x worse.

HesterLee · 12/05/2016 02:13

"Metal friends" Hmm

booklooker · 12/05/2016 03:18

Heard it on Hi FM in Oman

Eminybob · 12/05/2016 03:42

I believe it to be true. Surely if it were a troll it would have had a more exciting conclusion?
I would love for the op to hear back from the bride but don't think that's going to happen now.

leelu66 · 12/05/2016 07:38

Troll hunters here are tedious. It sounds like jealousy because OP's thread has gone viral.

This is all over my news feed!

Literally.

Irish blogs, radio stations, magazines, and tabloids have run mad with it.

Bugs the shit out of me.

Plus, soooo many comments saying 'cancel the cheque'! AngryAngry Bird

Hello everyone - the OP of that thread has been on Mumsnet for several years and we have no reason to believe they aren't genuine. Please do refrain from troll hunting - the OP is able to see and is understandably not happy about it.

shins · 12/05/2016 11:07

Apologies. I wonder how she feels about it going viral though, bit alarming I'd imagine!

sandrabedminster · 12/05/2016 11:31

Sorry Becka I had no idea that I broke the guidelines. Appogies.

The 'troll' thing can be really corrosive and horrible to handle. I've been accused of not being who I said I was when I posted quite a personal (and completely honest) thread asking for advice, and it made me feel more negated and invisible even than people who were directly horrible! It bothers me that it's so lazily recycled as an objection to just about anything.

I imagine the OP is feeling all kinds of conflicting emotions about the way that this story has taken off, and doubting her word is probably not going to make that feel any better.
