We're a family of three. Two adults and our ds who's coming up to a year old.
I'm trying to work out what cuts we can make with weekly shopping so it's cheaper!

So how much per week do you spend and how many people in your household?

£80 averaged out weekly family of nine ages 1,2,2,3,4,10,16 and dh and I . We shop at Aldi , Home and Bargain and Muscle food for meat. That includes three in nappies one in pull ups and wipes, cleaning stuff , toilet roll etc.
I occasionally get a friend to pick up rice, salmon and other random bits from Cosco.

Forgot to say we don't drink apart from a bottle of Aldi prosecco once every couple of months and two or three bottles of German beer at Christmas.

£70 per week, 2 adults and 2 young children.

That's £60 main weekly shop at tesco and £10 a week for top ups. Includes everything - cleaning stuff, toiletries, nappies etc. I stick to Tesco value which is often as cheap as Aldi / Lidl. We stopped buying at Aldi as the fruit & veg don't last and the meat goes off while still in date.... waste of money. Also I find Asda is not that cheap and the quality of the food is not good. We have no markets within a hour's drive but do grow some veg in the Summer.

Good luck OP, do report back!

We spend about £200/week - there are six of us and I order from Ocado, while DH does top ups at the market of fruit/veg.

I know it's a lot but we work really hard and can just about afford it. If I had more time or an Aldi near us (I wish - bloody love Aldi) it would be less.

Prob £85 -£100a week for 2 adults, 3 kids (1 a teen), 2 dogs and a chinchilla. Depending on how much wine I need to get through each week!

I spend about £80-90 a week but that's not including my alcohol at the weekend. There's just me and three DC.

AerithEarthling · 09/05/2016 22:16

about £20 a week

Kateallison16 · 09/05/2016 22:22

Myself, DP and beloved cat:

First shop of the month with toiletries, cleaning products and pet bits comes in at around £80. The other 3 shops are about £40 a week, depending on what we need.

We live very well for that, with fresh cooked meals every night, plenty of veg, fruits and meats.
I shop mostly at tesco and dont buy much frozen. Fridge is always packed out with cheeses, hams, bacon, chicken, salads and veg.

I dont buy things like: sandwich fillers, milkshakes, pies, sausage rolls or anything like that often at all anymore, its so much cheaper to make salad wraps for lunch rather than reach for a pie and packet of crisps.

flirtygirl · 10/05/2016 00:19

Mine seems low but dont buy pre packaged dinners or lunches, no alcohol, only a little meat and fish but loads of freshly baked bread( lidl excels at this) fruit and veg.

Iknownuffink · 10/05/2016 00:52

Use approved foods about three times a year to stock up my 'flavours' cupboard. In supermarkets I veer towards yellow stickered meat/fish. Not so with poultry. Aldi/Lidl for cheese. Ethnic stores are brilliant their prices are good.

We spend between £400-£450 a month. There's seven of us.

Main shop Aldi (normally less than £70 a week). DH spends a lot on treats/top-ups in Tesco and Poundland.

I menu-plan and (normally) cook from scratch. The kids don't seem to eat loads at the moment! We often have porridge for breakfast. We eat at the Grandparents' once or twice a week. We have a bread maker. We buy "value" most stuff.

I think changing to shopping in Aldi has been the biggest cost cutter, even though it's a bit of a drive for us. I've bought in bulk before (i.e. from Muscle Food) but I don't know if it's cheaper. Some of my friends shop at Costco, but again I don't know if it's cheaper than value ranges, plus you have to be able to store the stuff!
