to not like the idea of smoothies?

There is something thick and gloopy about them. Ick.

I much prefer to eat my vegetables and fruit whole. Why are these nutri bullet things everywhere, what is the supposed health benefit?

Me too bibbity, me too! Fruit is yummy, vegetables are yummy...smoothies are weird gloopy things with all the 'bite'/ texture taken out.

I do like milkshakes though, I don't stick anything weird in them though, just milk, banana/strawberry and maybe a little dollop of ice cream.

Nonotmenori · 07/05/2016 15:13

Yanbu. I can't stand fruit or veg so a smoothie is the only way I can get them down me. I love smoothies. Smile

DoreenLethal · 07/05/2016 15:18

I love them. But I am also a veggie and love my veg.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/05/2016 15:47

I think you mean Yabu there nonotmenori !

I've never understood them either. I'd rather eat my fruit and veg rather than drink it.

And yes they're always goopy and have a weird consistency.

Notso · 07/05/2016 15:53

I hate them, but I love soup which is essentially the same thing.

BackforGood · 07/05/2016 15:54

Well, YANBU - you can like or dislike what you want, there's nothing reasonable or unreasonable about it, but, a LOT of people who won't eat much fruit (or veg), will then consume it if it's in a smoothie - so they are an excellent additional option for other people Smile

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/05/2016 15:55

I'm not massively keen but DD will scarf down loads of spinach and kale in a smoothie which she won't on her plate.

MintJulip · 07/05/2016 16:04

I agree mrs terry they are great for sneaking greens in to dc. I just try and err on side of caution over the sweet ones.

MintJulip · 07/05/2016 16:04

In fact soon I will be having an avacod smoothie with cucumber, parsley, garlic and tomatoes. I am giving indigestion a rest today

BackforGood · 07/05/2016 16:19

Also great for using up the wrinkly fruit, or bananas that are on the turn that the dc will never eat otherwise

NewYearNewToads · 07/05/2016 16:29

How healthy are smoothies?

NewYearNewToads · 07/05/2016 16:30

If that's not too stupid of a question.

dudsville · 07/05/2016 16:33

I've never taken to the idea. I like and eat fruit and veg and don't need to juice them. As it's summer all of a sudden I just bought plain greek yogurt and strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries and am looking forward to a giant bowl of this! For dinner we routinely have 4 or 5 veg or more as sides or in the main. I'd be eating a tonne extra juicing up more on the side.

BackforGood · 07/05/2016 16:51

NewYear if you just wizz them up yourself, then its up to you what you put in them.
Bought ones are different - you'd need to check the ingredients labels.
However, it depends what you mean by 'healthy'. My ds wizzes fruit with a banana and milk - I'd say very healthy, but I suppose there's fat in milk as well as calcium, and protein. I tend to use plain yoghurt. All fruit has natural sugars in too.

A few years ago I would have said YANBU but now it's a light hearted YABU. I love smoothies, although it's ones bought from a shop I love, rather than ones from juice bars.

My favourite brand is Innocent, they are expensive but they often have deals on in Supermarkets. My favourites are their Innocent Smoothie for Kids range!

Nonotmenori · 07/05/2016 17:31

Haha no I didn't! I don't think either of us are just different strokes for different folkes Smile

Nonotmenori · 07/05/2016 17:33

I make mine with 200mls of Apple and pear juice and then add a ready frozen bag of fruit you can buy. Yes I know it is lazy I also buy grated cheese Blush

specialsubject · 07/05/2016 18:15

Innocent kiddie smoothies 10-13% sugar. Adult ones about the same , just one of these tiny sticky drinks is 30% or more of your sugar RDA.

Have an apple. Less packaging.

MrsJayy · 07/05/2016 18:22

The thought of drinking green gloop makes me a bit queasy eating seems so last year i saw a weetabix drink the other day are people soo busy that they cant eat a weetabix in the morning

Notsurewhyimhere · 07/05/2016 18:28

Glad I'm not the only one. They look and taste disgusting.

notamummy10 · 07/05/2016 22:17

Special no thanks, also homemade smoothies will contain the same amount of sugar with it being fruit. I'll be sticking to my Innocent smoothies.
