To be so flabbergasted by the price of tickets to Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

I knew it would be expensive but BLIMEY CHARLIE! it's eye-poppingly eye watering expensive. The thing is to see it you have to see it in two parts and they are charging a full price West End ticket for each part.

In my case, it's ok as I'm not paying all of the cost of the ticket, it's right by my birthday so birthday treat is covering part of it and as it's just me and a friend it's completely affordable.

But it got me to thinking how utterly unaffordable it is for normal average families even those earning a good salary.

So for a family of 4 it's : £260 and a family of 5 : £325 for one day out, 2 days if you see it split

As it's in London for anyone outside the Home Counties this is before transport and hotels.

Is it naive of me not to think that this is quite normal ? I do think they are fleecing people a bit based on the name and splitting it in to two parts. I'm just glad I'm not paying full price, I wouldn't be able to justify it frankly.

How much would it be for one ticket for both halves?

It's £130 to see both parts isn't it so take a family £400-£500!

So sorry 2 people is £260 because it's £130 for ONE

So a family of 4 is £520 !!!

I know. I almost got tickets at the reduced preview price but I dithered over dates for a second too long and lost them. The full price is just too much really. Shame. And yes it's the transport and hotels which make it up even more. I would have only gone with my sister, not taken DC. (I don't think it's recommended for children anyway.)

I was interested (family of five), but the whole thing just seemed to complicated to get my head round before I eve got to the pricing.

I think we paid over £600 for a family of 5. Good seats though. Crazy money, I don't know what came over me.

I'm paying £10 for the script when it's released this summer, so I'll imagine the rest, like I did with the books.

Like fuck am I paying those extortionate prices. A bootleg will probably pop up on YouTube eventually anyway...

The ticket system IS quite bonkers

It's NOT ON Mondays/Tuesdays

BOTH PARTS Wednesday

PART ONE ONLY on Thursdays

PART TWO ONLY on Fridays

BOTH PARTS at weekends

But if you book Part One on a given Thursday you HAVE TO watch Part Two the next day or not at all

The Lion King would not be more than your revised number - that is ALOT of money. I couldn't be fannying about with different bits on different days either. Is this the West End equivalent of a box set?

Well DeadGood what I mean by hotels is that if you're a mad Potter fan and you don't live in the capital or the home counties the cost of going to see it (already expensive) goes up by at least 100% what with trains etc. Yes, the theatre don't care about this but if it wasn't already the price that it is, adding in these wouldn't push it out of the reach of affordability for most.

I haven't heard of this at all - is it a movie or theatre?

I've already said that I'm going, and that in my position it's ok, but that I was really taken aback by it, and think it's a bit much, especially for families

It's an unofficial sequel, authorized by JK Rowling and is happening in the West End as a two part play in a theatre so you have to buy 2 separate full price tickets to see it even though, in many cases you're just going back to the same theatre the same day

Same thing happened to me. Cannot bring myself (or afford) to pay the price of a week in a static caravan somewhere by the sea, for theatre tickets for our family of 5.

Well, it's the same sort of price as all premium west end theatre tickets really. We used this to book our tickets for those who are confused....
