To ask if it's a good thing that London has a Muslim mayor

DoesFlossfloss · 06/05/2016 21:17

Because my London based in-laws are not happy and I've not been following the campaign as I'm not in London so don't really care. However, we're seeing PILs this weekend and it will be up for discussion.

No wonder England is going to hell in a hand-basket

Grin

Because everything is ace in Northern Ireland. No religious loons there!

The most distasteful thing about it TreaterAnita is that even if Goldsmith was simply following instructions it means he was willing for Lynton Crosby to stick his hand right up Goldsmith's arse and operate him as a sock puppet.

Goldsmith, an unscrupulous man. I wonder where he might have got that from...

Artandco · 06/05/2016 22:05

Last - why would there never be a Muslim mayor in Ireland? Any reglion candidate would be allowed if they were popular enough

Ricardian · 06/05/2016 22:07

Yet women here seem to think he is fine? Remember you backed him, when your rights are eroded!

Abortion in the rest of the UK: legal.

Abortion in NI: illegal.

What was that you were saying about rights?

Ricardian · 06/05/2016 22:09

Goldsmith, an unscrupulous man. I wonder where he might have got that from

Be fair. He hasn't been involved in a conspiracy to conceal evidence about a murder, for example.

SavageBeauty73 · 06/05/2016 22:11

Common sense has prevailed on London.

I'm over the moon.

Born and bred in London and I don't know one person who voted for Zac Goldsmith

edwinbear · 06/05/2016 22:11

I'd have preferred not to have a Labour mayor personally, but couldn't give a fig about his religion. It's completely irrelevant.

Justanotherlurker · 06/05/2016 22:12

I don't care, what I do care about is his religion being used as a political toy, by both the left and right.

Goldsmith (or rather his PR) tried an awful smear campaign, but I see a lot of the left gloating in the fact that a Muslim won and trying to equate it to two thumbs up to Isis

Maybe we should let the man get on with his job and judge on that rather than trying to pre curser it wraith some kind of qualifier.

TradGirl · 06/05/2016 22:12

LastGirl are you joking?

Northern Irish politics have every shade of loon from orange to green. I mean, yeah, all right, the English voted in Call me Dave but Northern Ireland is a loooooong way from being held up as some bastion of democratic politics. And I'm saying that as a native (albeit one who escaped).

Justanotherlurker · 06/05/2016 22:12

Two fingers.

Damn fat thumbs :/

nauticant · 06/05/2016 22:14

Ahh, you were thinking what I was thinking Ricardian.

Moving15 · 06/05/2016 22:15

It's a great example of the difference between London and much of the rest of the country

BillSykesDog · 06/05/2016 22:15

I think both candidates were utter tossers. Zac was worse though. I honestly cannot believe they ever thought he had a chance of winning.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 06/05/2016 22:17

Has the religion of any other mayor ever been mentioned? Just because he has a different imaginary friend to the christians.

StealthPolarBear · 06/05/2016 22:17

How, moving?

StealthPolarBear · 06/05/2016 22:18

Lol at boris joining

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/05/2016 22:18

I am in NI and I wish we had a Sadiq Khan instead of the Coalition of Cunts that have been voted in here.Sad Maybe that way we could get abortion rights and same sex marriage.

QOD · 06/05/2016 22:21

What ? No Boris? Sad

PaulAnkaTheDog · 06/05/2016 22:25

Please LastGirl, I so want to hear your responses.

GingerIvy · 06/05/2016 22:27

Yes, interesting to note how his religion is highlighted, but I don't remember seeing the religion of any other candidates floating about...

Justanotherlurker · 06/05/2016 22:31

No it's not, and that type of mentality says more about you shows you up more than you realise.

evilcherub · 06/05/2016 22:35

I think it is a good result but I hope it puts to rest the notion that the West or the UK is Islamophobic or intolerant. I would say electing a Muslim mayor just shows that most people in London don't care much about what religion someone is and vote according to their policies and are pretty open minded and fair. That being said, I think one of the main reasons he was elected is that he has put housing at the forefront of his campaign and obviously a lot of Londoners want the housing crisis sorted. There was no way Zac the toff was going to do this, ergo we have Mr Khan as Mayor.

TheRollingCrone · 06/05/2016 22:36

He's great, now a Muslim woman Mayor, even better.

Dione Coalition of Cunts Grin word!

StrictlyMumDancing · 06/05/2016 22:39

I made an informed choice and voted, however I came to realise I didn't like any of the candidates or their policies overall. I couldn't tell you the religion of any of them either until today and I can only tell you Khan's because of all of the headlines. I care more about their policies than their religion. I don't see how it matters unless he was promoting Sharia Law which I'm pretty sure he wasn't.
