AIBU to be a bit scared of what I've just seen in my shed

Pictured here. I think I've seen these before but not so many or so big. I thought they were just some feature in the wood of a cheap shed Confused but now I realise something or somethings have actually (gulp) built them. It looks like something(s) is living in them. I saw something winged on one of them Shock then I ran away.

Wasps' nests I think.

They look like wasps nests

GinAndSonic · 03/05/2016 19:32

Definitely wasps nests.

Hawkmoth · 03/05/2016 19:33

Look like potter wasps. Small colonies and not aggressive. I'm a bit jealous.

ijustwannadance · 03/05/2016 19:33

Wasps/hornets?
You could always burn the shed down.

user12785 · 03/05/2016 19:34

Definitely wasps nests. You need someone like my FIL - he just pulled mine down with his bare hands and threw them in the bin! (I hid). (As did DH!)

MaureenMLove · 03/05/2016 19:37

Ive got several in my shed. All of them old and not used anymore. I was just careful not to make the shed vibrate too much when getting things out, when they were 'live'. Never had a problem with them. I think they're rather beautiful and reminds me of how amazing nature is. Smile

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 03/05/2016 19:37

I thought you were going to say a spider .

DeadGood · 03/05/2016 19:37

They are quite cool!

Junosmum · 03/05/2016 19:38

Wasps nests- scarves, sunglasses, oven mitts and carrier bags are the way I get rid of them!

Sunnybitch · 03/05/2016 19:38

Grin firstwe

dementedma · 03/05/2016 19:41

Agree wasps nests or bykes as we call them here.
If you can get someone to get rid of the inhabitants, the nests themselves are beautiful intricate things and worth keeping. Dcs will get brownie points at show and tell...

Princesspeach1980 · 03/05/2016 19:46

We had a wasps nest like this in our play house. DH wrapped himself up in all the clothing he owns, and pulled it down himself. Ours was only tiny, only about 4 wasps flew out. We cut it open and it was full of little larvae inside.

Completely wrong.

Those structures were built by aliens. Prepare to be probed. We have been observing your earth.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 03/05/2016 19:51

pull them down and straight into a bucket of water!

WriteforFun1 · 03/05/2016 19:57

the pic makes them look quite small.

nippiesweetie · 03/05/2016 19:57

Aw, I thought you were doing an Aunt Ada Doom thread. 'I saw something nasty in the woodshed.'

TheFlyingFauxPas · 03/05/2016 19:58

Grin casual. Eglantine can I borrow your FIL? Forgive any sexism but I think it's a manjob. Daren't mention them to ds.He's always been terrified of anything buzzy 😞

OP, I hate to point it out to you - but as well as wasps nests, your shed also has evil eyes Shock

velourvoyageur · 03/05/2016 20:02

Aw, wasps are lovely little creatures! If you pick them up nicely they won't sting, they're just nervy.
If you're not allergic.

Rapidly going off shed. . .

MissMargie · 03/05/2016 20:07

Get a grip.

Knock them into a container and chuck them in the garden.

Unless I have the scale wrong and they are a foot across and contain 200 wasps, then knock them into a container and chuck them in the garden and run into the house, shutting the door after you.

SilverBirchWithout · 03/05/2016 20:07

Is one pink and the other one blue?

Do the wasps have segregated facilities where you live?

JuxtapositionRecords · 03/05/2016 20:09

I hate wasps but it does seem mean to destroy something they have spent ages building and kill them. However I have no other solution except to lock the shed permanently and wrap it in cling film.
