To wonder when your baby slept through the night

More for passing trade as you don't get much on the other boards.

Just wondering what age your DC(s) slept through the night and what hours you classed as through the night?

Sorry for the boring AIBU post

11 month old still waiting

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 03/05/2016 05:41

DC1 - 11 months

DC2 - 8 months

DC3 - 3 years

Through the night = 11 pm to 5am

mumhum · 03/05/2016 05:44

DC1 8 months, DC2 5 months, 7 to 7

curren · 03/05/2016 05:45

DD - 3.5 years
DS - 4 years

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 03/05/2016 05:50

Can't be 7-7 or mine would read:

Dc1 10 years but only once on a Saturday after getting home from a residential trip

DC2 (9 years) and DC3 (5 years) never (to be fair they have to be up at 6 on a week day, and I have never tried to make them sleep past 6am).

Wink

I think paediatricians and midwives etc. Say through the night is midnight to 5am though. Plenty of babies and children never sleep 12 straight hours in their lives.

Wink
Dizzywizz · 03/05/2016 05:59

Ds1 9 months (7-7)
Ds2 never 7-7 or anything similar, but does do 12-5 so if we count that then I suppose about 12 months. Personally once they're over a year I would say through the night should be considered 7-7 or similar, however I'm not sure I've ever done that!

sepa · 03/05/2016 06:00

Is it ok to get 8hrs out of a 8 week old? (I am very worried about the laziness of my baby and have been to the Drs about it so in no way am I gloating. Im genuinely concerned something is wrong with my baby)

OP posts:
53rdAndBird · 03/05/2016 06:01

Through the night = whenever bedtime is to whenever getting up for the day is, no waking.

2 year old, still waiting.

53rdAndBird · 03/05/2016 06:04

8 hours at 8 weeks is totally fine and well within normal, OP. Why are you worried that something's wrong? Is something else going on?

sepa · 03/05/2016 06:11

Just because she has always been a sleepy baby. All MW in and out commented on how sleepy she is. I stupidly googled it and found a thread (on MB I think) where someone said their DC slept as much as mine and now has autism (which isn't a problem for me if she has something but obviously I would prefer her not to have it as I want her to have an easy life)

She is my first DC so I don't have experience with this sort of thing.
She is smiling and is very alert when she is awake though.
I do write down her awake times to keep an eye on a typical day and she is awake about 8hrs per day on average (but broken up by cat naps during the day)

Sepa are you worried that he or she isn't waking for feeds?

If weight gain is ok and he or she is alert when awake you are fine. If weight gain is too slow/ not happening you would usually be advised to wake once during that 8 hours to feed. If he or she isn't alert when awake in the day go back to hv or gp - really the only reason 8 hour stretches would be bad was if dc has feeding issues.

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 03/05/2016 06:16

Cross post.

Sounds fine.

Be careful what you wish for - she may give up sleep at 4 months old...

sepa · 03/05/2016 06:18

Her weight gain is fine. I suppose I'm worried as EVERONE comments on it but not in a good way

OP posts:
sepa · 03/05/2016 06:19

I have heard there could be a 4 month sleep regression...

TheodoreEvelynMoseby · 03/05/2016 06:19

Both of mine would do 8 hours at similar age and would then do 11/12 hours by 3 months.

My second used to sleep for about 6 hours in the day as well which I worried about too but she's now in a more 'normal' routine at 10 months.

'Real' (as I call it) sleeping through the night I.e from 7-6 didn't happen consistently until he was 14 months.

I think he had a few nights earlier than that (including one joyful fluke at 6 months) but we had teething chaos from 10-14 months.

A lot of people you'll meet at groups will tell you their baby sleeps through and then with probing you'll realise they mean a 6 hour stretch or that they woke at 4am then went back to sleep. I even know of one person who was outed by her husband after claiming her very sleepless baby slept through. They're all different had it's often the luck of the draw I'm afraid!

WiIdfire · 03/05/2016 06:23

2 weeks = 6/7 hours
(8 hours at about 10 weeks, 10 hours at about 20 weeks)
We also have a sleepy baby, we were told to wake him for feeds every 4 hours when we got home from NICU after a week and he was so cross we soon dropped it and let him sleep. He sleeps through most nights though at 8 months he started to wake once for a while. He's 9 months now and no other problems, so hope its just all how he is.

Salene · 03/05/2016 06:28

19 months - still waiting

sepa · 03/05/2016 06:29

I have found doing the sleep diary has made me calmer about her sleep!

wildfire is your son reaching all expected milestones?

Mari50 · 03/05/2016 06:31

When she went to primary school and even then she still woke occasionally thought the night. P3 now and she will sleep through reliably.

twirlypoo · 03/05/2016 06:34

Another 4 year old here who sleeps through about 80% of the time now. School helps!

BathshebaDarkstone · 03/05/2016 06:38

9 months, 9 months, 6 months, 6 months.

BathshebaDarkstone · 03/05/2016 06:40

Through the night = 11 - 8.

SusanAndBinkyRideForth · 03/05/2016 06:41

Dd1 - 3 years old for most nights sleeping through. 4 years old for every night apart from when ill.
Dd2 - 2.5 and still waiting...
