To ask you to tell me about the HPV Vaccine and if your daughters had it?

DD just gave me the letter which has to be returned by tomorrow.

Everything I read online about how effective and how long it lasts is conflicting.

Does anyone have any info or views which may help!

My DD had the vaccination when it was offered several years ago - she is now 18 and I think might have been one of the first years to have it at school - very few in her year didn't have it.

I on the other hand have had two colposcopies and the latest hospital letter (earlier this week) reads: The laboratory also tested your screening sample for the presence of human papilloma virus (HPV) which can cause cervical abnormalities. The report showed evidence of HPV infection". I'm going to have a follow-up appointment - I have googled this and not really come up with anything. I would rather have had the vaccination even if it doesn't totally protect ... then again, DD was born overseas where the chicken pox vaccination is also standard.

Lobster, most cases of HPV will resolve themselves without any need for treatment and without causing any long term problems. HPV is so common that most people will contract it during their lives (CDC). It's good that they're following it up but please try not to worry.

Sorry to hear about your daughter Katie.

I'll be vaccinating my son in a couple of years.
It helps if boys are also vaccinated.

I'd definitely vaccinate a daughter.

Bumbleymummy - thank you for that! The letter gave me no information and googling has just given me "further investigation will be required". Most grateful.
