Mother sues for £20k for being discouraged from bf while the wave machine was on

Daily Mirror link to the story here.

I'm totally for breastfeeding wherever and whenever, but I wouldn't want to eat my sandwiches in a swimming pool - they are so germy, like a human soup, so not sure a swimming pool with a wave machine on would be the best place to bf. Plus, obviously in this case there was the waves.

I realise that getting out of the water, especially if she had other kids, with a hungry baby would be a massive faff, but wouldn't the wave machine splash the baby and make it choke?

Serious question: AIBU to think this? Is bf in a swimming pool a done thing? Genuinely curious.

Mango moon you have no idea what has happened behind the scenes to make us aware of this woman. It's not about self labelling, you didn't know she was a self labelled nutter last week did you?

Buckinbronco - I became aware of this woman when I read the Mirror article linked.

I was surprised to learn that this is not the first time that she has been 'maligned for breastfeeding', not a common occurrence to have such high profile incidences of 'shaming'.
I looked at her public social media pages and read her constant, incessant hash-tagging & self labelling.

I personally think that she sounds like a nutter.

As I said previously I am the antithesis of everything she purports to be - not only that but she appears to be an antagonistic attention seeker who spends most of her time complaining.
(All of this gleaned from her very public persona btw).

Aeroflotgirl · 03/05/2016 16:39

I agree she sounds very unhinged and very self righteous, I am shocked and dismayed that someone like her is working with women at their most vulnerable as a breast feeding peer supporter. She is the sort of woman to tell those who were not able to breastfeed that they did not try hard enough, or push through the pain. Her revulsion of formula is not right if she is doing that kind of work.

Buckinbronco · 03/05/2016 16:41

I agree with you mango, I think she's nuts too. But that doesn't mean she's the one who has put this story out there and very often it is the other party.

Roussette · 03/05/2016 16:53

" They could have learned from it but they chose not to.’It has happened at a few other places but it was the way they have handled it in a fantastic manner.’They realised they have made the mistakes, have learned from it and introduced policies to stop it from happening to somebody else, which is why I have never taken action.’

Quotes from the woman in question. Obviously she has a full time job going round testing what happens when you BF different places. God she irritates me, she isn't the BFing Police.

MangoMoon · 03/05/2016 17:05

Sorry Buckinbronco, I misunderstood Smile

Jasonandyawegunorts · 03/05/2016 17:07

Obviously she has a full time job going round testing what happens when you BF different places. God she irritates me, she isn't the BFing Police.

Yes she goes from place to place and breastfeeds in akward, impratical and somewhat dangerous places then threatens to sue when anyone suggests a more comfortable location.

MistressMerryWeather · 03/05/2016 17:37

I think in situations like this you need to put your common sense cap on.

What is the most likely situation?

Who is more likely to have an agenda here?

The pool staff who no doubt come across BFing mothers all the time and don't appear to have had any trouble over it in the past?

Or the lactivist with a penchant for complaining and a history of going to the press?

Roussette · 03/05/2016 17:41

No Mistress they have no trouble with BFing mothers whatsoever. They have signs up supporting BFing all over the leisure centre and have done for years.

unimagmative13 · 03/05/2016 17:59

Brilliant that morrisons tweeted her back asking which baby formula she was looking for when she complained

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/05/2016 18:06

I am shocked and dismayed that someone like her is working with women at their most vulnerable as a breast feeding peer supporter

So am I, but sadly it sometimes happens that women like this feel a strong attraction to the job. I had a similar one myself, who harangued me for being unable to breastfeed when a simple check of my notes would have shown that my DS had a cleft palate and couldn't nurse

I wasn't impressed Sad

Sallyingforth · 03/05/2016 18:08

I hope the stupid selfish woman reads this thread and takes note of it.

Your money-grabbing, attention-seeking performances are damaging the cause of public breast-feeding.

Stop it!

JustDanceAddict · 03/05/2016 18:19

I would think it would be pretty dangerous if nothing else.

Aeroflotgirl · 03/05/2016 18:24

That is awful puzzle, she is a lactivist, says it all really!

DaveCamoron · 03/05/2016 18:27

Dammit her Facebook and Twitter page are locked down.

NeedACleverNN · 03/05/2016 18:32

Oh she knows we are discussing her! Grin

her Instagram with the delightful boob cake is still up though

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2016 18:34

Dammit her Facebook and Twitter page are locked down.

That's great news. The bonkers has magically disappeared. Smile

Shakey15000 · 03/05/2016 18:44

I can still see the Twitter?

NeedACleverNN · 03/05/2016 18:44

You are probably a follower

originalmavis · 03/05/2016 18:46

I doubt it. People like that just don't 'get it' do they? They never stop to wonder how the the rest of the female population just get on with breastfeeding with no dramatics, traumas or the need for a lawyer. Too far up their own proverbial I expect.

CrushedCan · 03/05/2016 18:47

That's fucking disgusting. I'm all for breast feeding (did it myself) but would I bring a bottle of milk into a pool and feed my baby? No, Because why would I want milk floating about a pool. Just ew.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/05/2016 18:50

The bonkers has magically disappeared

Always something to be thankful for Wink

Though that said, the many public comments have probably fed her sense of injustice even more ... does anyone know if it's possible to bring a mass action against members of MN?? Hmm Grin

MangoMoon · 03/05/2016 18:59

Shakey:** I can still see the Twitter?

The Boobie cake lives on!

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 03/05/2016 19:15

Got to admit, my eyes pretty much rolled out of my head when I saw "vegan lactivist". And her son's first birthday cake was a pair of boobs? It's so "look what I've achieved, look at meee" with no mention of her kids other than when it's "look at MEEEEE breastfeeding them".

Then I read the article. What a fucking weirdo.

Milander · 03/05/2016 19:19

If holding a breastfed baby whilst wearing a swimming costume, the baby will just get in there and latch on. They can't help it, they see the boob and go for it. It's easier to let them carry on than try and stop them and they will be crying, or getting in and out of the pool all the time.
