Mother sues for £20k for being discouraged from bf while the wave machine was on

Daily Mirror link to the story here.

I'm totally for breastfeeding wherever and whenever, but I wouldn't want to eat my sandwiches in a swimming pool - they are so germy, like a human soup, so not sure a swimming pool with a wave machine on would be the best place to bf. Plus, obviously in this case there was the waves.

I realise that getting out of the water, especially if she had other kids, with a hungry baby would be a massive faff, but wouldn't the wave machine splash the baby and make it choke?

Serious question: AIBU to think this? Is bf in a swimming pool a done thing? Genuinely curious.

Tbh id like to see a change in the law than bans bf in a pool - it's disgusting. It's still bodily fluids purposely put there.

You do know baby swim 'nappies' don't hold pee don't you? Not to mention all the snot and dead skin and saliva from everyone in the pool. Really breast milk being in the pool should be the least of your worries.

I know her. This does not surprise me.

Oooh! Do tell more.....

CountessOfStrathearn · 02/05/2016 20:08

mango, glad it make you laugh. Grin I was due a smear test and she was being noisy so what was a woman to do?! Grin

PinkyOfPie · 02/05/2016 20:08

I'm personally a bit "meh" about breast milk in a pool. So what. There's probably the piss of 40 kids an hour, and chlorine is there for a reason.

BF in the pool is not only dangerous for baby though, I'm sorry but it's possibly the most attention seeking thing a BFer can do and massively damages the NIP cause.

Judging by Instagram this woman is a tremendous attention seeker and uses her kids to elevate her pseudo-fame

Rosae · 02/05/2016 20:11

I do know her it is true but she is not allowed to speak about it due to the case so i know very little of the details. But i know her. Yes she is outspoken and a fighter but she is kind and not stupid and would not do this for money.

"Tbh id like to see a change in the law than bans bf in a pool - it's disgusting. It's still bodily fluids purposely put there"

Actually, I've been told by a leisure centre manager that the biggest problem they have is contamination from body lotions and creams. They have sensors in the pool that adjusts the amount of chlorine needed (how dirty the water is basically) and lotions set it off.. then the chlorine levels get dangerously high.. then the have to close and filter the whole pool.

The sensors are actually designed for normal body shedding.. but lotions don't disolve as well as wee and skin so put the sensors into overdrive

just FYI, since we're clutching our pearls about BF babies who poo and wee and might dribble a bit of milk

OrangesandLemonsNow · 02/05/2016 20:14

Yes she is outspoken and a fighter but she is kind and not stupid and would not do this for money.

So why asking for 20k then?

How do you know what her motivations are or what actually happened? Where you there?

PinkyOfPie · 02/05/2016 20:15

she is kind and not stupid and would not do this for money.

Hmm

Not buying someone who is suing an establishment is "not doing it for money". No matter how much she's suing for

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 20:15

she is kind and not stupid and would not do this for money.

What's it all about then? Confused

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 02/05/2016 20:15

Small babies will wee in the pool and last time I took a baby swimming the swim nappies hold poo in but not wee. So I don't have an issue with any breast milk being in the pool seeing as you're swimming about in piss anyway.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 20:16

What is she a 'fighter' for? Not common sense obviously.

ScreenshottingIsNotJournalism · 02/05/2016 20:16

A lot of people don't want to sue for money initially and go through the direct complaint route, they just want their complaint acknowledged and reassurances about the future.

Often it's when people's complaints aren't dealt with they resort to sueing because they feel it's the only way they'll get acknowledged.

Not always, some people want money, but just because someone is suing for money doesn't mean that was their first port of call or that it's about greed and not acknowledgement and reassurances

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 02/05/2016 20:17

I'm sure she is stupid and is doing it for the money.

She's stupid if she thinks she might win. Why would you sue for 20k if you're not doing it for the money?

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 20:17

I couldn't wait until DS2 was 8, then I never had to get into a public swimming pool ever again. I would just smile and wave from the cafe free of everyone else's bodily fluids.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 02/05/2016 20:18

I'm sure that people who say they're sueing to get things changed 99.9% of the time are trying to convince others and quite possibly themselves that this is the only reason and not any money. Total bollocks of course.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 20:19

She wants reassurances that no staff will be so rude as to offer chairs to breadstfeeders in the future. Plus 20K just because....

purplefizz26 · 02/05/2016 20:19

The woman is ridiculous and clearly just after a few quid.

Nobody else, including bottle fed babies, would eat in the pool. It's germy, wet, chilly and then there is the added risk of a baby being sick too which would result in a pool closure perhaps?

I am 100% behind breastfeeding in public, generally no mother should be shamed or told to stop or move on, but there are a few inappropriate places, and this one.

She is attention seeking.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 02/05/2016 20:19

Dd shat in the swimming pool at the gym when she was old enough to be out of nappies. They closed the pool for 24hours.

Roussette · 02/05/2016 20:19

Saw her twitter account... she is a full time breastfeeder activist with an axe to grind by the looks of it. She'd hate me, I only bf one of mine for a short time, the rest were ff.

Of course it's for the money!

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 20:19

*breastfeeders even. Grin

Roussette · 02/05/2016 20:20

*the rest?! I meant my other DC! (have a DSS but didn't bf him!)

CoolforKittyCats · 02/05/2016 20:21

Saw her twitter account... she is a full time breastfeeder activist with an axe to grind by the looks of it.

That explains it then..

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2016 20:23

I wonder what her DP/DH makes of it all?

Pettywoman · 02/05/2016 20:27

Some people are pigheaded twats. I'm all for breastfeeding, I bf both mine but this is ridiculous. I wouldn't breastfeed in a pool, especially when the wave machine is on, or when abseiling from the Forth Bridge, or deep sea diving.

Rdoo · 02/05/2016 20:28

The woman is ridiculous and clearly an attention seeker.

My sympathy is reserved for the poor life guard who was probably trying to be nice!
