AIBU?

(Light hearted-ish) AIBU to hate Mister Maker?

He drives me up the wall with the over exaggerated, over enthusiastic actions and rushed crafts. I half expect him to turn up on screen with a trace of Columbian marching powder around his nostrils because he's that hyper.

I grew up in the days of Neil Buchanan and the late, great Tony Hart , and even as a child I prefer Tony's more sedate and considered arts and crafts because I thought Neil was too excitable. But he's nothing compared to Mister Maker's shouting, jumping, running and general (from my POV) acting like a toddler behaviour.

I also have a particular problem with "Mister Maker Around The World" from a BBC budget point of view - he's been to at least Hong Kong, South Africa, Sydney, San Francisco and Rio De Janeiro. It's a bloody children's art program FFS - smacks of BBC producers on a jolly to me.

AIBU?

Posted too soon. Or perhaps Chris?! He may look good in fluorescent pink and yellow Lycra.
DD has just advanced to Good Luck Charlie. At lease she can hide away with the iPad now. It's just new levels of hell until one day they're old enough to watch Game of Thrones .... And then I'll be old and wrinkly. Grin

Yes Im not a fan of Mister Maker. He has a face I'd like to punch. As for his Arty Party, how cringe. I enjoy turning him off.
Also enjoy turning off sappy Waybuloo. Charlie and Lola I can't abide because Lola is a pita. Mike the Knight and Peter Rabbit are irritating.
However, Spotbots is a current fave. I also used to sit and watch Dougie without fail every morning.

I used to feel quite inadequate with my parenting skills next to Flop. Then I saw the episode where Bing nicked the lolly from the shop - and rather than go back and just pay for the lolly, he paid for it then made Bing return it?!
He's only meant to be about 2/3 Flop, chill out

I realise as well that it is just a cartoon Blush

Glad to see this, I knew I wasn't the only one. This programme does not IMHO help children to make things and I can't believe many succeed. They need to learn techniques by making things carefully, taking the time they need, not rushing and throwing together things against the clock. Do anyone's DC actual get the things made, and feel proud of them?
It's not Bake Off, is it?

And it is wasteful. Cut up marigolds? Cover your toys in paint or glue to make a mediocre picture? Use a ton of new coloured card and modelling clay and waste lots of disposable crockery? Fuck that.

Use an old box, leftover gift wrap or newspaper. Paint it, glue it, whatever. End result is as beautiful as MM's art and a lot cheaper.

I assumed he went round the world to perform at theatres, not just film MM clips. He's in our UK town this week.

Kids entertainers seem to have a wide audience. My cousins in Oz saw Steve Backshall the other week.

I have no friendly feelings towards Mr Maker I'm afraid.
Most of the things he makes are hideous yet DCs insist we make all of them!
MrMaker is like a synonymous of waste of time and resources.
I am trying to convince myself though that junk modelling must have some unknown to me advantages for kids.

Just read this on a media blog:

  1. He is massive in Asia.
  2. Mister Maker is the top rated show on CBeebies.
  3. Mister Maker travelled around all 4 corners of the globe to learn about children’s art in their countries.
  4. He can make just about anything in the world!
  5. Mister Maker is a patron of the Kent Deaf Children’s Society.
  6. Mister Maker first appeared on our screens in 2007!
  7. He has been nominated for a BAFTA Children’s Award
  8. Mister Maker is helped out by his friends The Shapes, Scrappz and Tocky.
  9. Mister Maker is shown in over 100 countries.

Turns out the people of Asia disagree with you OP! (I however totally agree! You are definitely NBU!)

I remember a "snog, marry, avoid" on a FB mum's group I'm on. The choices were Mister Maker, Mr Bloom, and Mr Tumble. My choices were Snog Mr Tumble, Marry Mr Bloom & Avoid Mister Maker. If I had to spend any length of time in Mister Maker's company, I don't think I could be held responsible for my actions would go around the bend).

ToInfinity Seriously, he's huge in Asia? Jeez, they must like crazy guys.... Good on him for being patron of the Kent Deaf Children's Society though at least they don't have to put up with the crazy chatter.

Snog, marry, avoid? I'd rather snog Mr Greedy, marry Mr Happy and avoid Mr BBC presenter.

DH and I spent FAR too long the other day watching Mister Maker trying to work out if he really was around the world, or whether it was green screen. We simply couldn't believe the BBC would pay for it.

My current loathing is for Dipsy and Dopey (otherwise known and Topsy and Tim).

My DS was absolutely petrified of the shapes when he was about two. He used to scream every time they came on yet he loved the show so I used to have to make sure I got to the TV to switch it off before they came on. Likewise DD was terrified of the zingzillas but I don't blame her for that, they are pretty freaky. She used to hate the coconut stone thingies in particular.

I love Bing though. My only irk is that Flop doesn't correct his language. Children do tend to talk like Bing, I know my DC do. "I gotted that". It's cute.

Also there's a very tall dad of a boy in DS class that looks like mister maker Grin. I knew he looked like someone, it just clicked with me the other day. He's mid thirties and tries to be really cool with converse and trackie bottoms, it's properly cringe Grin.

What's wrong with wearing converse in your 30s? My 60 year old DM has some.

Haha, I agree. The kids pictures are better than his on the Arty Party. And I think he's secretly jealous

I hate Peter Rabbit. I think I might be alone in that though. I can't stand the shitty cringey theme tune they've put on it. And the show revolves around Peter and his friends getting eaten, everyone in the programme is always banging on about eating him. it's a bit grim really.

My boys are older now, but Mr Maker was one of the least offensive CBeebies presenters and a possibility in the "would you rather shag [presenter 1] or [presenter 2]?"game DH and I used to play to leaven the early years when we were on CBeebies lockdown. I hated how much mess, cost & chaos doing any of his art projects would actually have entailed IRL so we never followed through on vague promises to have a go.

The Beatrix Potter books are a bit grim though. I remember seeing the cartoons as a child and one of the characters were baked in a pie while alive. My autistic brother thought it was funny but it freaked me out.
