To be annoyed that people think it's funny to make jokes about killing/injuring cats?

Have noticed this on all forums/groups I am on. Someone will mention a cat/a problem with a neighbour's cat and someone else will 'joke' about killing or injuring it.

No idea why people think this is ok and it doesn't happen to the same extent with dogs. It's fine not to like cats but why in the world would you say, especially to someone who clearly does like cats, that you'd like to see them hurt?

Feel like this constant drip of casual cruelty translates to real life and people being callous towards other people's pets in real life too.

If anyone hurt my cat I would cut their hands off. I'm not joking.

I've never hurt a cat and i never will, although i'm not their biggest fan (dug up garden, destroyed bulbs, ds playing in shit etc), i just say 'boo' if they're in the garden.

The foxes that live at the end of the garden are in no doubt I'd fecking skin them if they went near my guinea-pigs (and I;m a vegetarian)

I often fantasise about injuring dog-kickers very painfully and doing all sorts of nasty crap to them every time I would kick the dog type comment is made.

They don't mean it. They just love their garden more than your feckin cat shitting on it.

I have felt the same thing. People talking about cats being 'the work of tbe devil' and such like. Then the 'jokes about hurting them.

I know people do make jokes which are genuinely so but there is a tone to some comments which is acerbic

I dont like the furry feckers, especially when they shit in my garden. They get a good wetting from my super soaker but I wouldn't kill one.
I have had words with my neighbour about her cat crap, she took no notice so now I shovel it up and a quick flip has it over the fence back where it belongs

Well, we do kill animals that we find a nuisance such as mice, rats and foxes. I'm not sure why some people have such a sentimental attitude to cats. It is illegal for Joe Public to kill cats, but that is a sop to humans with their desire to own animals like they do handbags and artwork, rather than because cats are inherently different and special.

Harder than you think, I reckon. You'd probably need a saw. There would be a lot of blood. The victim might not stay still long enough for you to detach both hands.

Obviously I don't mean things which are funny/light-hearted/affectionate jokes - but the actual slightly aggressive comments and the justifications people give for making them (eg. usually the 'shit in the garden' excuse).

It's totally ok not to like cats, but what do people expect you to say when they post these things? It's like "Woooaaahhh we have a badass here guys… This out of control maverick just DGAF WHAT they say!"

You do see it about dogs too (which is equally as horrible) but it seems to be more common/accepted to state that you hate cats and would like to see them hurt.

OK, look at it this way: you spend precious time tending and spending money on your lovely garden - you tend to the plants, mow the lawn, prune and primp. Then a totally uninvited pet comes into your garden to ruin all that, what do you think people are going to say? You surely get that it's bloody annoying to find shit on the lawn when you don't own a cat, in the vegetables, your bird boxes skewed from the furry buggers trying to terrorise the birds. Go away, you're not wanted or needed in my garden. I do not love your cat so if you could understand that, then you might understand how annoying it is.

Yes, catsmeow. The difference is this is MY garden, my private land that I've spent time and money on so your cat is not welcome. Surely you understand?

And it's only cats that do it. Fuck off to your own garden, or owners, keep them in at night.

Dogs aren't allowed to roam free by law and dog owners are required to pick up their poos so dogs generally aren't as much of a nuisance as cats. They are also incredibly useful animals (guide dogs, police, customs), as well as being companions. It's not rocket science.
