to think teenagers shouldn't be on tinder?

Teacher friend just told me some of the fifteen year olds she teaches are on Tinder. I was shocked. Is this normal? Am I clutching my pearls for no reason?

Well they can only meet other 13-17 year olds on there but it is fucking weird to be 13 potentially meeting up with 16/17 year olds and I don't think anyone under 16 should be on a dating app anyway. FB should make it a 16+ app IMO.

Trills · 01/05/2016 10:22

FB have no power to "make" it be anything.

We supply the WiFi and devices at home.

Birdsgottafly · 01/05/2016 10:37

No they shouldn't.

I think it's very different than 'meeting' someone via a hobby or interest site.

Schools need good Pastoral Care, or Personal/Social development lessons, to counteract the dangers (when Parents can't/don't) and this is the first thing to go when budgets are cut.

The schools in my region that have become Academy's have very little, or Poor Pastoral Care.

I don't think the kids are looking at it on the school computers. I was just shocked that they're learning to 'rate' each other based on so little so soon.

Relieved to hear they aren't talking to adults, but how can tinder guarantee this? And isn't it still a dating site even if it's for teens?

Wow!

I would worry about adults joining the teen section.......never realised there was a teen section till this thread! Amd if the lads on it are anything like the adult blokes on tinder they will be sending nob photos which isn't very pleasant.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 01/05/2016 15:40

We didn't have Tinder when I was 13, but people were still rated on looks and we still got dick pics.

flingingmelon · 01/05/2016 15:50

Oh even back in the dark ages pre Internet, many hearts were woken and broken based on nothing more than the sight of a boy across the park. Dick pics not such an issue.

But; gorgeous boy across the park never knew what I thought and more importantly, I never signed myself up for being critiqued by a bunch of strangers. I wouldn't have had the self confidence to see past it.

They do Sad. One of DD's friends (15) is on Tinder and receives such pictures.

I just don't get it. Do these young men honestly think that a girl would go out with him based on that?

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 04/05/2016 20:16

Is there anything to stop 15 year olds saying they're 18? I know plenty of kids too young for fb who just lie about their age.

I definitely think it should be 18+ tho! Teenagers have enough pressure without it being expected that they're on tindr
