AIBU to get furious with colleague doing stretches on office floor?

I am v lucky I work in a job I love with people I like a lot. However I (F) share an office with a man, nice and respectful, who thinks it ok to stretch out on the floor doing yoga type exercises and making loud orgasmy type noises every lunchtime. He is nice and there is no sense in which I feel intimidated but I do think it v inappropriate, particularly as he faces me when he does it. I have suggested that he might be more comfortable doing his exercises elsewhere. He stopped for a bit but has started again. Arggh

Granted, it is weird but I think YABU to be furious and a bit of a drama queen.

I would advise him that it is making you uncomfortable and that you would prefer he goes elsewhere.

maybe he has some physical condition that requires him to do this sort of regular exercise and stretching. Many places of employment recommend doing stretching exercises at work if you are normally sat at adesk all day etc

My colleague goes for a run at lunchtime and does all his warm up lunges in front of me. It doesn't make me furious but I do have to stifle a giggle sometimes at some of the positions he gets himself into. Especially the time he passed a little bit of wind.

That's hilarious! I'd probably find it a bit annoying but funny - it must break up the tedium of working in an office

By the way, stretching wouldn't bother me. Orgasm noises would though. Especially if you're actually trying to work through lunch at your desk. So if he kept the noises down I'd let him stretch away.

You're being a bit unreasonable, but I completely get it. I have a colleague with a 'standing desk' who bops to the music. He bops on and off all day. It's utterly unreasonable, but I want to poke him right in the eye.

As Elspeth said - if you're trying to work and the noises are legitimately distracting you, you have every right to say 'hold up, yoga-kid, I need to work here' - if he's just being a showy douche and it's getting on your nerves, take a walk :)

Start bringing smoked kippers and egg sandwiches for lunch. Try and stink him out.

I don't know why so many people thing you are being unreasonable, he is. An office is not a gym. Tell him to do it somewhere more appropriate.

Take a piece of old cotton into work, when he lunges, rip the cotton so he thinks he's split his trousers!

If I was trying to work or relax and eat my lunch I would find this very distracting and it would drive me nuts especially if it was daily.

I tell him again to find somewhere else and if he didn't I'd ask my manager to find him somewhere else.

My workplace had someone come in to show us stretches we could do in the office. It's actively encouraged to counteract the effects of sitting for a long time. The noises sound horrendous though so YANBU about that but YABU about the stretches.

Is there not a conference room or something that's free at lunchtime he could use? I would actually ask him if he could go somewhere else, rather than suggesting it. Its not very appropriate for use your office for this unless you're out of the room. As for the poster saying 'Maybe he needs to do it', well maybe, in that case, he should do it when he gets home from work!

why don't you talk to him and time it so he does the exercises while you are out at lunch?

I used to have a colleague who did a full yoga session on her mat every lunchtime. I found it a bit odd but, you know, whatever. She wasn't noisy though, and if the noises are interfering with your work, it's okay to ask him to pipe down.

I need to do stretches regularly at work because of a health condition. Occ health said I should be given a private space to do this because I need to do it frequently and it's really not appropriate to be getting down on the floor in a shared space. The problem is my managers refuse to make this reasonable adjustment, so I just don't get to stretch unless I work at home. My officemates are lovely but it's totally inappropriate for me to start doing downward facing dog in the middle of the office. It's embarrassing for all involved.
