To demand people keep their dogs away from me on the seafront

TigerPath · 29/04/2016 07:16

I'm sick of random dogs coming up to sniff me and DS or getting under my feet. All dogs make me nervous even small ones. And I hate it when they cock their leg on my pram wheels Angry

So now when a dog comes up to me or just before it reaches me I shout to the owner (politely but firmly) 'please keep your dog away from me/my pram'
Most oblige but a number are rude! Yesterday a woman retorted crossly 'but it's the sea-front'. I replied 'they should be on leads' and got a mouthful of abuse. There is a bloody great sign saying 'dogs should be on leads on the promenade'!! I wouldn't care if people kept them to heel but I don't want them touching me, my pram or tripping me up Angry

AIBU??

People love dogs because the dog is tuned into them, its raison d etre is to please its human

... so that the human will keep giving it food Smile

FarrowandBallAche · 03/05/2016 10:21

I'm not sure what it is Shining tbh.

For example I can decide to take them out for a walk at a totally different time of day than usual. I will just be sat there wondering where to go with them, I won't have got the leads or poo bags, my coat or boots, so giving them no clue but at least one of them will come and sit upright next to me with that look.

Same as when DH comes home at a different time than usual. They know before he's here. How??

Shining15 · 03/05/2016 10:24

Aye, the dog is in for itself and has done a good job of nestling in with its human provider, I wonder how good a companion the dog would be if it could get a job, earn its own money and make its own way in the world😋

Shining15 · 03/05/2016 10:26

Rupert Sheldrake has done work on dogs and telepathy, easily google able if you're interested...

FarrowandBallAche · 03/05/2016 10:27

I don't understand why you keep going on about jobs and money.

You seem very bitter that people can form such strong attachments to something that can't give anything material back?

Shining15 · 03/05/2016 10:29

It was a joke and you missed the point
Never mind

FarrowandBallAche · 03/05/2016 10:39

A joke? Sorry I missed that. I just thought you'd mentioned it a few times during this thread.

Shining15 · 03/05/2016 10:50

Its been a long thread!
You might find Sheldrake interesting given that your dog seems to know when your husband is coming home😊

FarrowandBallAche · 03/05/2016 11:03

Thank you! I shall take a look!

Our local beach has a smaller, separate area for people to take their dogs. I find it works rather well but doesn't stop some complaining that the whole beach isn't available to walk on. It's still available for all but with the understanding that this part will have dogs roaming too. It's strange that the warmer weather brings out so much complaining of dogs, smoking etc. I guess when winter rolls around again nobody will care for a while.

kali110 · 03/05/2016 11:33

shining is a prime example to why i i actually prefer my pets to a lot of people.
farrow they won't understand, or simply wants to annoy.
poverty Flowers Really sorry. We lost a pet last year ans were inconsolable.
We had a pet that knew a family member was ill. When they passed it ran from room to room looking for them whining( not a dog btw) and died the next day too.

I like dogs. Don't want to be jumped on but don't mind them coming up and I'll pat them and move on.

The other night out for a walk a man and his dog were ahead of me on the path. The dog stopped and came back at me barking. The man was on the phone and ignored it, even though he'd turned round and had stopped walking so was aware. When the dog was 10 yards away and still barking I shouted out to the man "could you sort your dog out and put him on a lead". He got off the phone and started shouting Ralphy, Ralphy. Ralphy ignored him and kept coming. No urgency in the man to round his dog up and stop him coming closer to me. I told the man he's not paying you any attention and if you can't control him he should be on a lead. Man said nothing to me - just looked at me as if I was making a fuss over nothing. Ralphy was to the side of me at this point on the grass. I whacked the bench between us with my umbrella and Ralphy ran off. Man looked at me as if I was an idiot. FFS, if your dog doesn't stop when you tell him to and is barking at people train him or get him on a lead. Small'ish dog but I don't want to be bitten, or barked at constantly. If your dog acts like this once he shouldn't be running free.

kali110 · 03/05/2016 12:51

Grin See gf

kali110 · 03/05/2016 12:54

The only person bringing the tone of the page down is you shining you've been condescending and downright vile to anybody who hasn't agreed with you.
You've simply goaded people into arguing with you. That is not intellect.

kali110 · 03/05/2016 12:56

It's ok farrow be a long day in hell before someone like shining gets to me.
I said from the beginning that their plan was to simply goad and they've proved my point repeatedly.
I won't say what i think they are as my post will get deleted.

Rosebud05 · 03/05/2016 13:47

Yep, emerald. You know it's spring when the dog threads start on MN!

And yyyy to apartheid - very clear dogs allowed/dogs not allowed areas on beaches, in parks etc. In Australia, and possibly other countries, they have 'dog parks' solely for the use of dogs and their owners. Wish we had those in the UK.

PovertyPain · 03/05/2016 14:00

I would be delighted if the beachs, parks, etc had clearly defined dog areas as it would make it a lot more pleasant for dog owners too. Imagine not having to put up with dirty looks and comments about "nasty dogs, dogs shouldn't be on the beach, why can't you walk them in the evening/rain when there's no one here, bla bla bla"

Imagine the pure bliss of a dog friendly area. Those that like dogs could enjoy them and those that don't could stay away. Though we will have to actually take them from the car to the dog area. Shock

FarrowandBallAche · 03/05/2016 14:07

That would be heaven wouldn't it!

Rosebud05 · 03/05/2016 14:58

Yes. There definitely needs to be more segregation between people with dogs and those without.

A dog shit free beach or park would be so much more pleasant and safer.

FarrowandBallAche · 03/05/2016 15:02

Dogs aren't allowed on the beach though are they? And if they are it's a dog beach so you wouldn't be there anyway Rosebud.

WaitrosePigeon · 03/05/2016 15:14

I never see all this dog shit people go on about, I really don't. another embellishment I reckon
