Here's some background,
I have 2 children and am pregnant with third, work part time, study part time (for a 2nd degree) and have low blood pressure so should be taking it easy.
However, I think my housework routine is probably too intense,
My Dh is wonderful and will generally do what needs doing (if asked/reminded) but we often disagree on how frequently things need doing,
My question is, how often do you do the following .....
Change bed sheets?
Mop floors?
Hoover?
Dust/Polish?
Confused

Change bedsheets: weekly

Mop floors: weekly

Hoover: everyday, not whole house though. Just where black ddog has been shedding.

Dust/polish: have never done this in my adult life. Sometimes run a baby wipe over the telly and sound bar.

Barmaid101 · 27/04/2016 09:20

Every 10- 14 days for bedding
Mop and Hoover weekly, extra if needed
Dust polish happens when dust becomes obvious. Prob every 4-6 weeks
There is more to life than housework in my book and I hate doing it so keep it minimal. But if anything extra needs doing it gets done.

MrPony · 27/04/2016 09:21

Change bed sheets - once a week
Mop floors - every other day, sometimes every day
Hoover - every day downstairs, every other day upstairs
Dust/Polish - about once every 10 days. Stuff doesn't get too dusty in this house

lostindevon · 27/04/2016 09:21

Thank you,
Perhaps I do need to re think my routine!
I completely agree there's more to life than housework!

Weekly is fine for all of those things you mention.

If you think they should be done more than twice a week that is too often, same for the bathroom.

GinIsIn · 27/04/2016 09:25

I just do a blitz clean of the house once a week, and then spend maybe 15 mins a day when I get in from work putting away dishes/laundry/wiping surfaces.

paddypants13 · 27/04/2016 10:10

Bed sheets every other week - unless one of us is ill.

Floors mopped - at least weekly but more if needed and swept at the end of each day.

Vacuuming - once or twice a week.

Dusting - every 2 or 3 weeks depending on whether we have guests coming. Grin

Bathrooms - weekly.

SwingingFromTheChanderlier · 27/04/2016 10:58

My house is very clean but not show home.

Bedding fortnightly

Mopping- twice a week with a steam mop.

Vacuuming everyday but use a cordless Dyson so extremely quick and easy.

Im a lover of bleach and dettol Blush

We also have a dog!

lostindevon · 27/04/2016 21:16

I'm also a bleach lover!
Thanks for all of the replies, I think I'll stop doing it / expecting it to be done so often!
There is more to life!!!!

Why is it in an AIBU?
YABU for not posting this in "Housekeeping" topic!

5minutestobed · 27/04/2016 21:26

Change beds fortnightly
Mop floors, erm monthly maybe?! When they look dirty. Sweep a couple of times a week.
Hoover once a week
Dust when it looks dusty/have guests coming!
How often do you do those things OP?

igglepiggleisanarsehole · 27/04/2016 21:34

Bed - every week
Mopping - 4x a week (twice a week with mop and bucket, twice a week with cif straight to floor)
Hoover - a few times a week with my big upright, but more than once a day with my cordless. I have black carpets and a long haired cat and it drives me bloody batty.
Dusting - as and when I see a spot that needs it.

Bedding: every fortnight. Sometimes every 3 weeks.
Vacuum: downstairs weekly and upstairs fortnightly. No shoes allowed inside and no pets facilitates this.
Mop: weekly. Sometimes slips to fortnightly.
Dusting: every fortnight, although sometimes slips to monthly.

AlpacaLypse · 27/04/2016 21:43

Bedding - once a week for dd2, once a fortnight for dd1 and me. dd2 is like her dad, gets hot in the night and it definitely needs dealing with more often.

Vacuum, mop and dusting are all performed within an hour or so of incoming relatives and visitors!

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2016 21:43

I'm probably not a great example because I fucking hate housework but ...

Sheets, fortnightly
Mop, once a month
Hoover, I don't do it, DH does but weekly
Dust/polish, the very odd time. I find wipes to be great Grin

Housework is utterly thankless, I avoid as much as possible.

Earlgreywithmilk · 27/04/2016 21:44

Bedding: once a week
Vacuum: downstairs every day upstairs once a fortnight
Mop: downstairs daily, upstairs bathrooms weekly
Dusting: downstairs weekly upstairs every couple/few months
As u can see I spend a lot more time on downstairs than upstairs!

woody2976 · 27/04/2016 21:45

weekly for everything except changing beds thats fortnightly.

Kim82 · 27/04/2016 21:49

Change bed sheets? Weekly
Mop floors? 3 times a week
Hoover? Once a week upstairs (all hard floors downstairs)
Dust/Polish? 3 times a week downstairs, once a week upstairs

BillBrysonsBeard · 27/04/2016 21:53

Change bed sheets? Weekly/10 days
Mop floors? Erm.... Blush
Hoover? Every 3/4 days, I have a toddler and long haired cat!
Dust/Polish? Every week

OP, take it easy! I am in awe of you.. two kids, pregnant, job, study! I am a SAHM to one toddler and I'm knackered Wink

Gwenci · 27/04/2016 22:00

Oh my gosh, my lack of mopping is giving me The Guilt.

We have laminate (aka 'the flooring that must not be named') throughout downstairs which I hoover maybe twice a week (but sweep daily - DC and their flippin' breadsticks) but try as I might I just can't get myself to mop.

I bought a mop. And a bucket. And floor cleaner. And they're sitting all accusatory in the cupboard under the stairs.

ijustwannadance · 27/04/2016 22:06

Bedding once a fortnight, maybe weekly in summer.
Hoover a couple of times a week but only because the laminate is dark wood and shows all the bits.
I think I do actually own a mop but don't remember the last time I used it.Blush
Polishing? Meh. I wipe around and hoover most of the dust. I don't really have ornaments etc and anything that would collect dust is behind glass doors.
