I'm barely over the death of prince but this album as made me shed a lake ful of tears in the last day.

It's such a powerful, strong love filled album that will help all black women get through even their darkest days.

She has left behind her sugar pop to try something very risky but to follow her heart.

I can not recommend it enough.

She played the game until she got her money and success and then decided to make the statement.

She was smart. This is the world that was available to her, so she used it to get big enough to be able to change it. Well done her.

Ludways · 26/04/2016 10:55

She played the game and she won, she's now fighting from within. Power to her.

MadMags · 26/04/2016 10:57

It wasn't a criticism of her, more a criticism of the industry and the fact that she needed to do it in order to gain the power she has.

quencher · 26/04/2016 11:01

I also loved that all the women she used had a story to tell based on what happened in the media.

Black women can't be an apologetically black because they have to pander to the dominating system. They have to make themselves more palatable to the white audience in order to be noticed. This is what shocked Pearce Morgan. The fact that Beyoncé had any black in her or that she may have faced any form of racism. He also forgot that she has black nephew, husband, father, cousins etc.

The transformations black women go through to fit in. Ask Gill Scott, ledisi or India arie. Outside of the black community not very many people know about them. They have tackled the issues Beyoncé has. The difference with this album is Beyoncé took to another level.

When she talked about shoving pages of the bible down her vagina during her menstrual period to stop the pain. It should not be taken literally. This speaks volume to a lot of black women. She went there.

RudeElf · 26/04/2016 11:01

Oh yes, i know what you meant mad was just adding to it with my own bletherings Grin

WindPowerRanger · 26/04/2016 11:02

Haven't heard the music or seen the videos, so I can't really comment.

But YABU for your thread title. Beyonce is the most mainstream and high profile black (ostensibly) feminist voice, and good for her. But she and her work can't be the most powerful black feminist anything. Not while Angela Davies lives and breathes.

ScarletForYa · 26/04/2016 11:02

Looks like she's been keeping her gunpowder dry. Hope she dumps Jay-Z now.

mamamea · 26/04/2016 11:03

the most powerful black feminist piece of work?

I feel Nina Simone rolling in her grave.

funniestWins · 26/04/2016 11:04

I have RTFT, but a little unsure. Am I allowed to let my white husband listen or not? Will he 'get it'?

She lost my respect when her backing dancers dressed like and paid tribute to the Black Panthers. She's a vocal admirer of Malcom X.

I can't help but feel she's playing the race card for her own gain.

GlitteryShoes · 26/04/2016 11:04

I just bought it this morning from Amazon for my son, who has always loved Beyoncé. Will he still like it ( he is currently in a rehab facility for head injury and will have no choice but to listen to it on repeat Grin?

Hirosleaftunnel · 26/04/2016 11:06

'Forgiving' your 'cheating' husband makes you a feminist now? Personally I don't believe the hype. Did he or didn't he? Who was it? Rita Ora, Rachel Ray, Rihanna? It's just demeaning if this 'fake cheating rumour' is being used to sell units.

MadMags · 26/04/2016 11:07

Rude Grin I don't have enough caffeine in me for subtlety today!

I don't think she'll dump him. She is a businesswoman and their reach as a couple is untouchable.

They are the definition of a power couple and she knows that, IMO.

I think taking ownership of the rumours was her way of addressing it, squashing it and moving on from it.

And some of her lyrcis speak of giving him one more chance.

I bet he's terrified Grin

quencher · 26/04/2016 11:07

I feel Nina Simone rolling in her grave. Yes she would. But it would be for the person playing her in the biopic. Seeing that most of her fight and struggle was based on her looks and race then they find a black woman with Europe features to play her.

Sallystyle · 26/04/2016 11:07

It is amazing and I'm no Beyonce fan usually.

I previewed it and bought it straight away.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 26/04/2016 11:07

I applaud her for this. She has a voice that reaches many people and she has chosen to use it in support of black women in a very powerful way.

I remain wholly unconvinced about Beyonce as a feminist icon though, and this doesn't change my view on that.

Definitely not detracting from this achievement though.

RudeElf · 26/04/2016 11:07

Am I allowed to let my white husband listen or not?

I dont know how it works in your house but wouldnt that be his choice? Confused if he wants to listen to it, he would?

MadMags · 26/04/2016 11:08

I wouldn't forgive my dh for cheating, mind!

RudeElf · 26/04/2016 11:10

Its possible to become a feminist icon having not been one previously. I would imagine.

Alyosha · 26/04/2016 11:10

I think it sounds great.

Black women face both sexism and racism, and the intersection of the two, so not sure why anyone would get a bee in their bonnet about an amazing black woman artist writing about that.

It's depressing to hear people dismissing her experiences as "playing the race card". Why can't she write about what life is like for Black women?? It seems people just don't like to be confronted by the facts of what it's like to live as an ethnic minority.

I would use it as a way to understand someone else's experience and views on life, which is always hugely valuable.

quencher · 26/04/2016 11:10

It features a Malcolm X speech about black women too. I do think that every one can listen to it. The fact is it's not rap sit at all. She does not go out her way to say your white and am black. It does not reference racism per say but it deals with at the same time.

quencher · 26/04/2016 11:12

It's a fact, it would not be a black person he would have cheated with if he did cheat. So Rihanna out.

WindPowerRanger · 26/04/2016 11:15

Anytime black people speak up someone runs up to complain they're playing the race card. it's like that twit we all went to school with who spent 6th form calling people fascists the moment they said anything he didn't immediately have an answer to.

And there is nothing wrong with admiring Malcolm X. His journey from awful criminal and misogynist to hate-filled black nationalist to thoughtful and inclusive Muslim is well-known. It is no accident that he was killed just as he became moderate and accordingly, influential.

funniestWins · 26/04/2016 11:16

How do you feel regarding her support for violent extremest groups and men?

@quencher

Zoe Saldana doesn't, to my mind, have European looks. Perhaps it's lookism as Zoe is stunning and while Nina Simone was an amazing lady, she wasn't as beautiful. I realise beauty is subjective be it the looks of another or the beauty of music like I loves You Porgy.

quencher · 26/04/2016 11:16

And some of her lyrcis speak of giving him one more chance. She did say one chance. When watching it I thought there would be notice of divorce paper as rolling credit at the end. At the same time you didn't know whether she was talking to her dad about her mum or general singing. She has done this before.

funniestWins · 26/04/2016 11:18

How about the Black Panthers @windpowerranger?

It is no accident that he was killed just as he became moderate and accordingly, influential

What's that based on?
