I want some new jeans, I'm plus size, all I can find are skinny jeans destined to make my legs look like two turkey drum sticks. Why retailers? Why?!

I didn't read arabia's comment as cunty.

But then, I always think, being a size 20 the last thing I would describe myself as is "skinny" and it fucks me off that these jeans are marketed to the Plus Size market, like we're so fat and stupid we think by wearing them we'll become magically skinny.

But then I am a crotchety git at the best of times Wink

Try the Sculpt and Lift straight leg jeans from M&S.

Have you read Adrian Mole now you're an adult Elle? I read it when I was 12 and most of it went over my head but downloaded all of them onto my kindle. There's no way you'd get away with anything like that being the class read along now. :o

I don't wear skinny jeans because I'm stupid enough to think they'll magically make me skinny! I wear them because I don't like loose fitting trousers and because skinny stretch jeans fit in my riding boots and are compatible with my work with horses. They look way better than joggies and long boots which I'm currently sporting Grin There is not a single thing skinny about me!

I don't describe myself as skinny but the cut of my jeans are. It's just a style. I've reread that comment and I agree. Sorry Araiba.

Sorry I was ranting against the marketing idea behind it, not those who chose to wear them (I own a pair myself)

Debenhams do a lovely range of jeans imo. I've got red herring boot cut, they also do mantaray boot cuts. Well worth a look. I've had skinny jeans to go with my long boots from there too. They weren't so skinny as to be skintight.

Per Una and M&Co straight jeans are well fitting and comfortable.

Flares are apparently back! I wear Sainsbo's flares or Next. The S ones are nicer and keep their shape. I'm a 20, they go up to 22 and you can now buy S online. I never wear skinnies, they make my arse look like the back end of a bus.

Another vote for Sainsbury's here. I also wear men's slim leg jeans which aren't too skinny on me, but it probably depends on individual shape.

Yours Clothing is pretty good. There seem to be more branches popping up if you want to try on rather than buy online.

I'm plus sized and my favourite pair of jeans came from Asda. They're straight leg and skim over my fat thighs nicely. Definitely a good alternative to skinny jeans.

Harem/ 'Aladdin' pants look good on every size.

They look bloody ridiculous on me.

Jeans that have baggier leg styles make my legs look huge! I'm happier with the skinnier styles especially if they're in black Smile

ouryve and Mitzy I sooo agree about harem pants especially the baggy crotch ones, they make everyone look like their nappy has fallen down\or is full Grin!!

Plus size and skinny jeans bloody hell, that is not what you need when you are a size 16 or over which is what I was. I used to wear baggy joggers, or leggings with jersey dresses over so nobody could see my fat legs. Skinny jeans are fine on those a size 14 and under.

I've never liked skinny jeans, ever!
They have long outlived their day - I cannot think of another style that has been 'in' for such a long time.

Good news!
Flared jeans (flared from knee), and bootcut are everywhere recently & wide legged, high waisted trousers.

In the summer for the past couple of years I've worn a boyfriend fit style, with the bottoms rolled up to just above ankle - they are pretty flattering and casual with a chunky sandal.

Skinnies are finally starting to look v dated now I think.

ScarletPower, I've also got those cigarette fit jeans from next and I love them.

They gape at the back on me (usual problem I have), but I added some extra belt loops round the back to counter it.
They are really comfy & look lovely left full length & also folded up with a big fold.

I'd be very glad to see skinnies go, that's pretty much all there has been for the past years. I'm not plus size, but I have strong legs and calves, and look like a sausage in skinnies.

So tell me more about the next cigarrette jeans - what's the sizing like?

Report
Danglyweed · 27/04/2016 10:51

I do own a couple pairs of skinnies to wear with flat boots, but only for when its absolutely pissing down so I dont get wet feet.

Flares for me. Although im a size 8, 5'5 with just a 31inch leg so all flares that are in store the now do not fit!! Why do they presume everyone wants to wear fuck off heels with them?!?!

My dh encouraged me to buy a pair of yoga trousers last year... wtaf are they? I've never felt so horrific!

Katherine, I go for the same size as I usually am.

I'm an hourglass shape, with a hollow back.
I have 'ample' thighs at the moment and have always had big calves (used to be strong calves & thighs, now slightly gone to seed).

I find they're a good fit across the stomach (I've a fairly flat stomach) but gape slightly on the back - the fit through the thighs is nice - not too loose, but not tight either, the calves are loose.
The shape is pretty much straight up & down looks wise with a relaxed fit and look, rather than a flare or bootcut which is very fitted over the top half of the leg.

Hope that helps! Confused
