...to drink a whole bottle of wine?

Tired after a long (but very enjoyable) week as an early years teacher.

Just discovered some whit wine that I really like - I always thought that I didn't like wine.

I seem to be finishing a whole bottle on my own! My DP has been drinking cider so hasn't had any of the bottle of wine.

Is a whole bottle far too much??

You're an early years teacher therefore you deserve to drink what you like ! WineWineWineWine

I really fancied a glass tonight ( had shit day with DH) but had to pick up DS from a party - just got in !

chickenowner · 23/04/2016 23:32

You lot are so reassuring, and especially good to hear that I'll be fine from a doctor!

Although... my uncle is a retired consultant endocrinologist, and drinks like a fish!

5%
Pish!
I have 12.5% so 9.4 units. Now that's an issue.
5% wine? Really?!?!

chickenowner · 23/04/2016 23:37

Wolfiefan Yes, apparently! My DP had a similar reaction to you, and referred to it as a 'wine-based drink'! I am so sophisticated in my tastes!

I have to admit that I have a 13% minimum for either red or white (pink can fuck off).

Not because of the numbers, I just find that below that = serious lack of flavour and depth. Love me a good 14% Malbec or Carmanere

Currently supping my 3rd glass of 13.5% Chardonnay and it's lush.

Breadandwine · 23/04/2016 23:38

Checking a 500ml bottle of beer at 5%, the label tells me that's 2.5 units. Assuming your wine bottle is 750ml, then the whole bottle works out at 3.75 units. Two bottles over the weekend = 7.5 units - well under the recommended weekly limit for women.

As you're a very special person, being an early years teacher, I think that's allowed! Smile

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 23/04/2016 23:39

I'm a secondary teacher...I deal with sullen lazy boys all week...I deserve at least a bottle of wine. Currently it's Aldi pinot noir.
As it is 1 yr old ds will be up at 5am so it's usually a bottle spread over the weekend.
He's asleep currently though so I'll probably have another massive glass

chickenowner · 23/04/2016 23:40

Breadandwine I kind of love you right now :-)

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 23/04/2016 23:41

You can't.
Secondary teachers are a different case altogether. Drink or throttle the little shits? Best drink eh?!
Wink

bloodyteenagers · 23/04/2016 23:43

Haha no not that big. Think that's the bottle glass. Mine are deceptive. They look like regular sized glasses until you pour a drink and wonder where half the bottle disappeared to.

Anyone wonder why on tv when they pour a drink of wine it's like a mouthful? Especially American programs.. Mates sitting around "do you want some wine?" Everyone says yes and the most smallest amount of liquid reaches the glass.. Think you get more when you ask for a bottle in a restaurant.

Talking of which (sorry I chat loads of random bollocks when I have had a drink) so what happens in a restaurant when you have the taster to try that bottle and it's shit. Send it back and get charged? Goes behind the bar as glass wine? Into the kitchen?

chickenowner · 23/04/2016 23:44

I really respect Secondary teachers. I don't know how you do it! I, at least, as an early years teacher, have the cute factor to keep me going!

Plus my degree subject is economics and maths, with history as a post grad . I cannot imagine being a secondary economics or maths teacher!

Blush

Are you sure that wine's only 5%??

Grin
chickenowner · 23/04/2016 23:46

Haha!! I always was a cheap date!

HoppingForward · 23/04/2016 23:48

I'm just finishing off my bottle, it's Saturday night! 13% and I've enjoyed every glass of crisp, cold white wine.

123rd · 23/04/2016 23:48

I managed a whole bottle last night but my first glass was with dinner around 6 and I think I finished the last slug after 12... Not sure that makes it any better... But it was lushWink

SouthWestmom · 23/04/2016 23:50

If you send the wine back because it's corked , it'll get chucked.

SouthWestmom · 23/04/2016 23:51

You're tasting it to make sure it's okay, not to see if you like it.

chickenowner · 23/04/2016 23:51

Glad to hear it's not just me!!

I also had my first glass with dinner - my DP made scotch eggs using eggs from our own chickens! It was my first ever scotch egg, and it was delicious!

None of that was relevant, but it was an exciting event in Mr and Mrs Chickenowner's house.

Ha. Here in France one unit is 10 g of pure alcohol, not 8, so a bottle of 12% wine is only 7,2 units.
OP, what kind of wine are you drinking?Shock

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 23/04/2016 23:53

Blimey the beer I am drinking is 7% - what is 5% wine?

bloodyteenagers · 23/04/2016 23:55

The 5% is really nice if its the one I am thinking of. Cannot drink it anymore.
Too nice and you forget you are drinking and before you know it more
Than a bottle has gone.

chickenowner · 23/04/2016 23:57

It was a moscato.

I told you all that I'm not sophisticated!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 23/04/2016 23:58

I like 5% wine too. I've been out for dinner tonight and accidentally drank a bottle of proper wine and I am drunk!

ouryve · 23/04/2016 23:58

It's about 10 units. Quite a lot, particularly if you do it a lot.

Quite fond of wine, but usually feel like I've seriously over-indulged after about 2/3 of a bottle.

ouryve · 23/04/2016 23:59

OK, if 5%, then a whole bottle will only be 4-5 units. knock yourself out!
