Have a bad back or aching muscles?

Sod buying an expensive massager.

A child's toy car (the metal hot wheels type) is a perfect tool.

Discovered it today and my God does it feel nice

Cigars, yes it did!
"You could have not poked at him with wooden spoons. You could have not rolled taco trucks up and down his back!" Grin

Waiting for the poster who once suggested taking the bristles off an electric toothbrush to make an homemade vibrator Shock to come and share her ideas.

NeedACleverNN · 21/04/2016 19:00

^

Somehow that doesn't shock me

A lacrosse/cricket ball is the best thing ever for massaging knots out of shoulders

And epsom salts in the bath are also just as good for aching muscles. But don't buy those tiny pouches that cost a small fortune in pharmacies- garden supplies websites sell exactly the same thing, just cheaper. I buy mine in 25kg sacks which lasts about 6 months. The last sack I brought was around £20.

They are usually food grade as well so safe for eating if you are daft enough to try it

If your muscle is in spasm, any pressure directed at the centre of the muscle will help alleviate the pain.

My shoulder pain disappeared in seconds when my son applied the business end of a pestle to the back of my shoulder. You have to manoeuvre it around to find the most painful spot - then, after a few seconds, the pain lessens. Move the pestle around to find another locus, and press hard again.

I've also used both a rolling pin and a tennis ball to rid myself of a muscle spasm in one of my glutes. Grin

(Just noticed that squeaky mentioned a similar technique.)

Interested in the epsom salts thing

My tips - if your sinuses are bunged up and decongestant stuff doesn't work take an antihistamine as well
Keep a magnet with your sewing stuff - so much easier to pick up spilt pins, dropped needles.
If you wallpaper your (young) kids' rooms, keep offcuts for wrapping their next birthday presents - they'll think it wonderful to have their special wrapping paper!

I have a samsung phone but it doesnt work for me Blush Confused

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/04/2016 20:50

Giant- you might have to go to settings.

thebear1 · 21/04/2016 22:09

I now want the tea infuser.

kelper · 21/04/2016 22:18

A golf ball is good for achy feet.

Pogmella · 21/04/2016 22:19

To line a springform cake tin: Put the uncut paper on the base, pop the sides on and clamp shut, then rip off the excess. No stupid tracing and cutting its the exact shape and clamped down Grin

FaithAscending · 21/04/2016 22:21

If you have a bad headache, put your feet in warm water and have something cold on your head. It draws the blood away from the head and reduces the pain. (This worked well for me recently).

BertieBeats · 21/04/2016 22:26

Giant you have to turn it on in settings. So go to settings, keyboard and layout and then Samsung keyboard ,you should find it there under Swype 😊

NapQueen · 21/04/2016 22:26

Where is that train track t-shirt from? It'd make a great father's day gift

ConfuciousSayWhat · 21/04/2016 22:31

A dry/dead Roll on deodorant ball bottle thing works as well tok

Pogmella · 21/04/2016 22:34

Woah! That text thing works on my Lumia!

EduCated · 21/04/2016 22:35

If you have sore feet, freeze a small pop bottle of water then roll your feet over it. Heavenly.

EduCated · 21/04/2016 22:36

Also, if you have a newer iPad (I think Air or above), you can swipe from the right of the screen and select an app which will appear on the side. You can then drag the resizing bit at the side to make it split screen, so you can, for example, tweet and mumsnet at the same time

Perfectlypurple · 21/04/2016 22:41

Not sure about the keyboard thing.seems too much hard work and not finding it easier. Too many mistakes writing out this message so have to keep going back.

NorbertDentressangle · 21/04/2016 22:45

To line a cake tin cut off a big enough piece of greaseproof paper to cover the entire tin, screw it up into a ball under running water, squeeze out excess water, open it out and you'll find it's a doddle to line the tin reaching all the nooks and crannies.

lordsteatime · 21/04/2016 22:47

I use my potato masher to scratch my back. its fantastic.

carabos · 21/04/2016 22:50

EduCated that's a great tip, but why does it give you only some apps? Twitter, yes, FB, no.

EduCated · 21/04/2016 22:53

I think it must be the ones that can cope with resizing, but not all can. Twitter jumps to the mobile layout - guess it's been designed to recognise and adapt to the screen size. Can you tell I'm making this up?

summerdreams · 21/04/2016 22:58

Loving the tip about the paperwork cakeninja will be trying that tomorrow Grin
